"How can this be?" Julian Shaw exclaimed in disbelief.
In his hands were his daughter’s medical reports.
They indicated her blood group as B while his and his wife’s blood groups were both O, implying she wasn’t their child.
Naturally, his first suspicion was being cheated on but he knew his wife wouldn’t dare.
Not because she loved him but because he was her first love and both had fallen in love ages ago.
If not for her family background, they could’ve married earlier.
In a frantic worry, he asked the doctor, "What else can explain this?"
"Uhm... Maybe she’s not your daughter?" The doctor answered uncertainly.
After all, a mere blood test couldn’t give paternity results and at the time, paternity testing didn’t even exist in the Moon Nation.
It did exist abroad but that would be too tedious to confirm.
In a trance, Julian didn’t know what to do.
He remembered Elena as a little girl, clamoring for this and that.
He remembered her first words, her first steps, her first outcry, her first tantrum and now he was made aware of the possibility that she wasn’t his daughter.
It definitely was a heavy blow.
He couldn’t help but wonder aloud, "What if they were switched?"
After all, no man would entertain the thought of being cheated on, that would hurt his pride.
Plus, he didn’t see any reason to be cheated on.
Thus he walked home, unsure of what was going on in his head.
Seeing Elena in the living room made him unable to control his expression.
"Dad!" Elena called out on seeing him.
"Mhm," he acknowledged her with a stiff nod, barely controlling his facial expression and went straight into his room.
He still had to process it.
It wasn’t like there were no other possibilities but he didn’t want to entertain them.
Meanwhile Elena was mumbling to herself, "So he knows."
According to the plot, her father, Julian, ought to know by now that they weren’t father and daughter.
But things would take time to progress.
It would still take another 2 days to visit the hospital where she was delivered and get access to the birth files.
Naturally, the hospital refused at first and only when Julian used his connections did he get access.
There wasn’t much confusion to begin with.
Only two girls were born that night 18 years ago and so if Elena wasn’t his daughter, the other one ought to be.
There wasn’t much drama behind the reveal.
Julian wasn’t stupid and kept it to himself.
He knew better than anyone what his daughter was like.
Ambitious, intelligent, smart, beautiful, capable.
The words couldn’t begin to define her.
She was just that amazing.
At least that’s what he thought.
But he had no choice but to talk it out with his wife, Lena.
Since this also relieved him of his anxiety and if the blood tests matched, then it would be proof of their lineage.
He already had the address of that child and her family.
It was just a matter of going and meeting them.
But he couldn’t just go alone.
So he decided to rope in his wife.
His father doted on Elena and he would be heartbroken when he revealed the truth.
And he didn’t want to give his father unconfirmed news.
"Lena, I need to talk to you about something," Julian said with a serious expression just as he entered his room and locked the door.
"What is it?" Lena frowned at him.
Julian felt a lump in his throat and didn’t know where to begin.
So he just went and sat down on the bed, away from Lena.
In his hands he held the blood test reports of him, Lena and Elena.
Unsure of how to begin speaking about this issue, he just handed the reports over.
Confused, Lena went over them before her expression changed.
"What’s the meaning of this?! I’ve never done anything to wrong you!" She said in a hoarse voice.
"I know," replied Julian. "She was switched at birth."
At this moment he finally found the courage to reveal the truth.
He didn’t dare delay, lest his wife’s imagination run wild.
In the next instant, Lena’s expression morphed to one of disbelief.
She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
"Let’s go tomorrow to meet them," Julian added in a soft voice, still unable to face Lena and lay down to sleep.
Lena didn’t even know how she went to sleep that night, tossing and turning in bed, her belly full of questions but unable to voice them.
Meanwhile Lily had also been home for 2 days, wondering when the Shaw couple, her real parents, would show up.
She knew it took time in her previous life but this time she was eagerly waiting for them.
Yes, she could’ve gone to find them herself but she wasn’t foolish enough to do so.
After all, how would she explain herself.
It wasn’t like she dreamt of her origins or something.
She was reborn!
That was a supernatural event!
She had no desire for it to be known to anyone.
Currently she was in Happy Village, about 2 hours away from Hanging Moon City where the Shaw couple resided.
That was the closest city to Happy village with a town nearby.
The town was the farthest the villagers had gone as the journey to the city was 2 hours by car and a very long journey on foot.
Lily had taken the bus from the Hanging Moon City to Peace Town and then walked for 2 hours to reach Happy village and another thirty minutes to her home.
Her home wasn’t anything fancy.
Just a simple brick and cement house built with 4 bedrooms, 1 kitchen and 1 outhouse.
Her family only consisted of her parents, her elder brother, his wife and her younger sister.
But she knew that the 2-storey house of the Shaw family was in a league of its own.
With beautiful furniture and tiled ceilings and attached bathrooms with a yard.
It was located within a military compound wherein even gaining entry was difficult.
Oh, how she longed to go there and live in it.
