Chapter 24: Meeting The Cat

My Desire System: The More They Want Me, The Stronger I Get

Across the river in District 6, the industrial grime gave way to looming shimmering spires and spotless avenues as Leo entered the corporate sector.

Automated security drones swept the wide plazas with dim blue scanner beams, monitoring the peaceful sectors where corporate wealth bought absolute peace.

He slipped through the shadow of a passing freight tram, bypassed a checkpoint scanner, and dropped through a service hatch into the tower foundation. The cool air of the underbelly hummed with static power, smelling of clinical chemical solvents and ozone.

Sub-Level 4 was freezing and sterile, lined with reinforced walls and automated sensor nodes sleeping in rows along the ceiling.

At the center of the vault antechamber, the floor stood open where an unnamed prototype had been secured in a floor safe.

Someone was already working on the prize, hanging upside down from the ceiling on monomolecular wires with relaxed, feline grace.

She wore a matte-black catsuit that hugged her athletic curves, with a long midnight braid swinging inches above the floor.

A lockbox was strapped securely to her ankle, resting against her leg as she rotated lazily in the cold air.

She possessed a striking dancer-toned build with dramatic curves, her face partially obscured by a black mask that highlighted her smoky violet eyes.

"Meow, watch the third tile, handsome," she murmured in a playful voice, peering down at him from her suspended perch with an amused look.

"That one triggers a sonic siren that will wake every defense drone in the entire district."

He paused on the second tile, keeping his posture relaxed while taking in the agile cat burglar before him.

"You’re the intruder who tripped the outer perimeter an hour ago," he noted, keeping his hand resting near the Null Razor.

"And you’re the second visitor who arrived four minutes ago, so neither of us has legal permission to be here," she purred with a teasing smirk.

"Let me guess your story, darling. Apex ruined your family business, and you came to claim sentimental compensation."

"There’s an unregistered object on their inventory manifest that belongs to me," he answered, meeting her gaze without flinching.

"How adorable," she chuckled, swaying gently on her suspended wires like an acrobat resting between routines.

"My client paid an enormous sum of credits for that exact box, and I never leave a job empty-handed."

"You’re remarkably chatty for a professional burglar," he replied, taking a measured step forward across the safe floor tiles.

"Being loud keeps life entertaining, while staying still gets boring," she countered, her lips curving into a confident smile.

"Besides, I only take from corrupt corporations that deserve to be robbed, and Apex has been at the top of my list for years."

"A thief with a moral code," he remarked, shaking his head with mild amusement.

"First rule of the underworld trade, darling. You leave with the prize you came for, and you never let a pretty boy stand in the way of a nine-hundred-thousand credit payload."

"The best in the business," she corrected, letting out a low laugh before her posture tightened into fluid combat motion.

Her eyes flashed with sudden excitement, and her smile widened into a predatory grin.

"Oh, I’m going to enjoy this," she whispered, releasing the tension in her wires with a sharp flick of her heels.

She dropped from the ceiling in a spinning spiral, landing on the floorboards with the lethal agility of a weaponized acrobat.

Her legs swept across the floor in a capoeira wheel, launching three rapid kicks that carved the air inches from his chin and ribs.

He gave ground with calculated steps, parrying the third strike with a forearm block that absorbed the kinetic sting.

Her fourth rotation arrived with blinding speed, wrapping both of her toned thighs tightly around his neck in a textbook scissor-lock.

"Time for a quick nap, handsome," she purred into his ear, squeezing with enough force to cut off blood flow to his brain.

"Then we can negotiate my finder’s fee like civilized adults."

His martial instincts took over before the choke could settle into his throat, unleashing a fluid counter from the Leo Arts discipline.

His hands clamped around her ankles against his shoulders, using her own spinning momentum to reverse the leverage fully.

He turned with her weight and drove her downward, slamming her back against the vault floor with decisive control.

Before she could roll away like a cat, he straddled her hips, pinning both of her wrists firmly above her head with one hand.

His knees locked her thighs in place, trapping the entire acrobatic thief beneath his broad frame in an unbreakable pin.

The antechamber fell into breathless silence as she stared up at him with wide, astonished eyes.

She attempted an explosive hip twist to slide free, but his balanced weight shifted with her movement and held the lock firm.

"Alright," she breathed, her lips parting as a flush of heat rose to her cheeks beneath her mask.

"I admit it. That was exceptionally impressive."

The Null Razor rested beside her cheek on the floor, but she didn’t even glance at the matte blade.

Her gaze remained locked onto his hooded face, her pulse fluttering rapidly at the base of her slender throat.

"You’re not a corporate guard, and you’re definitely not a clumsy bounty hunter," she said, her voice dropping into a breathless purr.

"What are you, mystery man?"

The All-Spark in his chest pulsed with warm rose-gold light, launching the secondary engine as the pink status window expanded before him.

He looked down into her eyes, reading the system window before meeting her gaze.

"Sierra, then," he said.

The teasing amusement vanished from her expression, replaced by sudden shock that made her body freeze beneath him.

"Be very careful, handsome," she whispered, her voice losing its playful tone for a split second.

"Nobody alive in this city knows that name. How did you get it?"

"Classified," he answered with a faint smirk, enjoying her sudden fluster.

A surprised laugh escaped her lips, and she relaxed her resistance with a defeated sigh.

"Fine, keep your secrets," she said, looking up with growing intrigue in her eyes.

"Now let me up so we can discuss splitting the loot before this room stops being private."

Before he could release her wrists, the ceiling sensor nodes flashed crimson as sirens wailed throughout the subterranean complex.

Panels slid open in the corners of the room, and automated defense turrets deployed from the ceiling with whirring targeting lenses.

A dozen combat drones dropped from overhead bays, surrounding them in a tightening cage of red laser targeting beams.

He released her wrists and pulled her smoothly to her feet as the automated turrets locked onto their coordinates.

"Ninety seconds before the reinforced security squad arrives," she said with a wicked grin, flexing her fingers as monomolecular wires slid from her sleeves.

"Let’s see if your fighting skills look as good standing up as they did on the floor, handsome."

He drew the Null Razor and backed up against her shoulder, ready to tear through the drone cordon together.

The automated turrets charged with a high-pitched whine, and the two thieves moved in perfect, synchronized harmony as the battle began.
