My DragonicVampiric System

Episode 19 — The Ones Who Will Stand Beside Him

Drako’s entire body hurt when he woke the next morning. Selene’s gravity had pushed his bones, muscles, and blood circulation harder than anything he had experienced since his first evolution. Yet underneath the soreness, he felt stronger. Two new abilities had awakened during the fight: Dragon Density and Blood Flow Control. More importantly, his mind was already imagining ways to combine them. Drako stood in front of the mirror and activated Dragon Density only in his right fist. His hand became heavier, the muscles and bones growing unnaturally dense without changing much in appearance. He released it and activated Blood Flow Control, directing Vampiric energy through the same arm. Crimson lines briefly appeared beneath his skin. [Compatible abilities detected.] [Hybrid development possible.] Drako smiled. “I knew it.” Before he could experiment, someone knocked repeatedly on his door. “If that’s Adrian, I’m sleeping.” “Wrong,” Kaien answered from outside. Drako opened the door. Kaien stood there with Draxen and Teck. “Why are all three of you here?” Draxen smiled. “Training.” Teck raised a small device. “Testing.” Kaien cracked his knuckles. “Fighting.” Drako stared at them. “Those are three completely different things.” “Not anymore,” Draxen said.

Twenty minutes later, they stood inside one of Astra Academy’s private reinforced training chambers. Teck had somehow gained permission to modify the room overnight. Floating machines surrounded the walls, holographic targets moved through the air, and several defensive barriers divided the arena. Adrian arrived shortly afterward and stopped at the entrance. His mouth fell open. “What did you do to this room?” Teck barely looked at him. “Improved it.” Adrian examined one of the floating machines. “This is Green technology.” “Obviously.” “Can I touch it?” “No.” “Can I look at it?” “You’re already looking.” Draxen laughed. Drako noticed Adrian trying desperately not to ask a hundred questions. Mira and Raizen entered next. Kaien looked around. “Why is everyone here now?” Mira smiled. “Because none of us trust you four alone inside a room full of weapons.” Drako couldn’t argue with that.

Teck activated the training system. “Tournament matches are becoming harder. Fighting individually won’t teach us everything. So I created adaptive opponents using recordings from our previous matches.” Six holographic warriors appeared. “They learn?” Drako asked. “Yes.” Kaien smiled. “Can they burn?” Teck stared at him. “They’re holograms.” “Disappointing.” The exercise began. Immediately, the simulated fighters attacked. Drako activated Dragon Blood Vision. One gold eye, one crimson. “Two left!” Raizen moved before Drako finished speaking, his sword intercepting both attackers. Mira disappeared behind another. Kaien released a controlled Phoenix burst while Draxen copied Raizen’s enhanced movement ability. Teck remained farther back, commanding drones that constantly changed the battlefield. Adrian watched Teck for several seconds before activating his own devices. “Your drones are leaving the upper-right section exposed.” Teck glanced at him. “I know.” “Then why aren’t you correcting it?” “Because I’m waiting for them to notice.” A simulated fighter immediately attacked through the opening. Adrian’s barrier trapped it. Teck smiled. “Good.” Adrian looked extremely pleased with himself.

Drako faced two simulations simultaneously. One mimicked Selene’s gravity while another reproduced Varek’s electrical weapons. The copies weren’t as powerful as the originals, but together they forced him to think. Gravity increased. Drako activated Dragon Density through his legs, anchoring himself. Electricity came from his right. Dragon Scales appeared only across his forearm. He blocked, deactivated Dragon Density, and activated Blood Step. Crimson energy flashed. Drako reappeared behind the gravity simulation. Instead of Dragon Strength, he used Blood Flow Control. Vampiric energy surged into his arm. Then Dragon Density activated inside the same fist. His arm suddenly became heavier while Vampiric circulation accelerated the movement. [Hybrid synchronization detected.] Drako punched. BOOM! The simulation exploded. Pain immediately traveled through his wrist. [Hybrid Technique Development: 19%.] “Another one?” Draxen shouted while fighting nearby. Drako shook his hand. “Working on it.” Kaien launched Phoenix fire over Drako’s shoulder and destroyed another target. “Try not to break yourself before I get to fight you.” “Worried about me?” “Worried someone else will beat you first.” Drako laughed.

The simulations became stronger. Teck increased the difficulty without warning. “You could’ve told us!” Mira shouted. “Then you would’ve prepared.” “That’s normally how training works!” Draxen was surrounded by three opponents. He switched between copied abilities rapidly—wind, stone armor, electricity, enhanced speed, energy barriers, and the thread ability he’d copied during the previous qualifier. Six abilities. Yet instead of dominating alone, Draxen used them to create openings for everyone else. A barrier protected Mira. Wind redirected an attack away from Adrian. Electricity disabled a simulated weapon targeting Drako. Drako noticed. Draxen could easily fight selfishly, but he didn’t. Kaien was similar. His personality was competitive and arrogant, but whenever someone was genuinely threatened, his Phoenix flames were immediately there. Teck constantly watched everyone through his technology, adjusting the battlefield to cover weaknesses. Raizen rarely spoke, yet somehow always appeared where his sword was needed. Mira moved like a shadow between them. Adrian coordinated information. Something strange happened as they continued fighting. They stopped needing instructions.

“Kaien!” Drako shouted. Phoenix flames immediately struck the target Drako had detected. “Draxen, above!” Draxen created a barrier without looking. “Mira, three seconds!” Mira disappeared. Teck understood what Drako was planning and redirected two drones. Raizen attacked the center. Adrian activated an energy pulse. Three simulations were forced together. Drako used Blood Step and appeared directly above them. Dragon Density increased through his right arm. Blood Flow Control accelerated energy through the same muscles. Golden and crimson power collided around his fist. [Hybrid synchronization: 27%.] Drako struck downward. BOOM! All three simulations shattered. The training system stopped. Everyone stood breathing heavily. Teck checked the results. “Interesting.” Kaien groaned. “You say that too much.” Teck ignored him. “Our efficiency increased forty-one percent during the final five minutes.” Adrian walked over. “Because we started predicting each other.” Raizen sheathed his sword. “That’s what happens when people fight together enough.”

Draxen sat against the wall. “My family would hate this.” Drako looked at him. “Why?” Draxen hesitated. For the first time, his usual relaxed expression disappeared. “The Blade Family doesn’t like depending on outsiders.” Kaien sat nearby. “Most Great Families don’t.” Draxen looked at his hands. “When you grow up able to copy abilities, you’re taught that anything someone else can give you, you can take for yourself.” Drako leaned against the wall. “You believe that?” “No.” Draxen smiled slightly. “That’s probably why they keep watching me.” Teck became unusually quiet. Drako noticed. “Your family watching you too?” Teck looked at one of his drones. “I’m their only son. They’re always watching.” Adrian’s excitement about the Green Family faded. “That sounds exhausting.” “You get used to it.” Drako shook his head. “You shouldn’t have to.”

Kaien laughed quietly. “Listen to us. Veyrox problems. Green problems. Phoenix problems.” Drako looked at him. “What’s your problem?” Kaien’s smile disappeared. “Another day.” Nobody pushed him. Drako understood. Every person in that room carried something they weren’t ready to reveal. Mira’s connection to forgotten history. Raizen’s hidden sword-related secret. Adrian’s unusual technology and curiosity. Draxen’s relationship with the Veyrox Family. Teck’s life as the Green Family’s only son. Kaien’s Phoenix heritage. And Drako had the biggest secret of all: the System and the true nature of his dual bloodlines. Yet somehow, despite those secrets, they were beginning to trust one another.

An academy announcement interrupted them. [FINAL 32 COMPETITORS REPORT TO THE GRAND ARENA.] [TOURNAMENT QUALIFICATION STAGE CONTINUES.] They headed outside together. Students filled the pathways leading toward the arena. When Drako’s group appeared, people moved aside. Drako found it strange. Only weeks earlier, hardly anyone knew who he was. Now students whispered about the Phoenix heir, Draxen Veyrox,Teck Green, and the strange dual-energy fighter walking together. Drako didn’t care about the attention. He was thinking about what Raizen had said. People who fought together enough eventually learned to predict each other. Maybe friendship worked similarly. You learned when someone needed help without them asking. You learned when to challenge them and when to leave their secrets alone.

The tournament board activated. Thirty-two names appeared before rearranging into sixteen matches. Drako found Kaien. Then Draxen. Mira. Raizen. Adrian. Finally himself. His next opponent appeared. Drako vs. Cassian Rook — Rank 12 — Level 5. The crowd reacted immediately. Adrian’s expression became serious. “That’s one of the favorites to win.” Kaien smiled. “Finally.” Draxen stood. “Cassian’s ability?” Teck already had the information open. “Kinetic storage. Every physical impact he receives can be stored and released back with increased force.” Drako stared at the name. Dragon Blood Strike depended on massive physical impact. Using it recklessly could make Cassian stronger. “So punching him is a bad idea.” Teck nodded. “A very bad idea.” Drako smiled. “Then I’ll have to become unpredictable again.” The System appeared. [High-level opponent detected.] [Combat adaptation opportunity.] [Potential Bloodline Growth: High.] Drako’s smile widened. Around him stood people who were slowly becoming more than classmates and rivals. Someday, they would stand beside him under a faction carrying his name. Kaien would no longer merely be the Phoenix rival. Draxen and Teck would no longer simply represent Great Families. But that future had to be earned. For now, Drako stepped toward the arena as Cassian Rook waited on the other side. His next battle wouldn’t be won by hitting harder. He would have to fight smarter than ever before.
