Chu Tianshu gazed at Jiang Furong with a smile. “Feel free to chatter more when you have nothing to do. I love listening to you. Come on~”
In the past, he didn’t understand and found others’ nagging annoying;
Now he finally realized: if someone didn’t care about you and wish you well, why would they bother? They’d just let you be!
He hoped these daily murmurs would become their years together in the future.
Jiang Furong, however, shot him a reproachful look, pursed her lips, and refused to say another word, wearing an expression that said “I don’t want to bother with you.” She lowered her head to scoop watermelon for the children.
Chu Tianshu watched as she used a spoon to cut the watermelon into small pieces, filling two bowls.
He felt a bit tempted too but restrained himself. “Then I’ll have corn. I woke up around four in the morning and I’m hungry again.”
The three of them sat around the coffee table eating breakfast.
The two little dumplings used their spoons to eat watermelon by themselves, behaving exceptionally well.
“The corn is so sweet. Who bought it? Such a good choice,” Chu Tianshu praised, then said to Jiang Furong, “This watermelon was specially bought for you. It’s really sweet—you should try some too.”
“I can smell it,” Jiang Furong said as she put away the other half of the watermelon for Li Fengzhen and Tang Xin to eat.
She couldn’t help adding, “The quality is quite good, but the watermelon is too big. In this weather, it might not sell well.”
Surprisingly, he had been the one to purchase the goods for the fruit shop today. She wondered how many watermelons and tomatoes he had bought. What if they couldn’t sell them all?
Fresh produce doesn’t last long—if it doesn’t sell, it’ll just go bad.
Chu Tianshu comforted his wife, “Don’t worry, I have a way to sell them. I’ll set up near the school entrance—kids crave this stuff.”
Jiang Furong wanted to say something but held back, speaking sincerely in a soft voice, “You should focus on your work. Don’t keep diverting your attention to come here. We’re at home every day, our lives are pretty much the same, and there’s nothing much happening…”
She didn’t want to hinder his efforts to earn money and pay off debts.
Besides her disappointment in him, another reason for this divorce was the thought that maybe he’d be in a better financial position afterwards—whether paying debts or doing business, it would all be easier.
That would be better for everyone.
“If you don’t want me coming here, then you all should come home. I’ll hire a nanny,” Chu Tianshu said between bites of corn. “My current dream is to quickly pay off all our debts, then have my wife and children by my side… Oh, and Mom too—the whole family living in harmony. How wonderful.”
Jiang Furong listened without responding.
Wasn’t this her dream too? But there were conflicts standing in the way.
However.
Compared to before, he had changed so much—it was like he was a completely different person!
Chu Tianshu teased the children again, “Is the watermelon sweet? Is it delicious?”
The two babies: “Sweet! Delishus!”
Chu Tianshu: “Is Daddy good for bringing you watermelon?”
Lingling, the proud little one, was easily won over by a bowl of watermelon: “Daddy good now!”
Xiuxiu also said: “Baba good~ Baba, is, good egg!”
“Pfft—!” Chu Tianshu burst out laughing at the little girl’s words. “You might as well just call yourself ‘the talented one’.”
Jiang Furong couldn’t suppress her smile either.
With one pregnancy resulting in two treasures, she suddenly had both a son and daughter. Though raising children was somewhat exhausting, whenever she saw these two exquisitely beautiful little ones, she often felt she was the happiest mother in the world, unafraid of any hardship.
How lucky must she be to have such beautiful, clever, and well-behaved children?
After the two babies started talking, her life had gained even more joy.
Both she and Tang Xin enjoyed teasing the children to talk in their spare time, and the two kids had developed quite good vocabularies.
The two toddlers had eaten a small bowl of watermelon when Jiang Furong stopped them from having more. Young children have delicate digestive systems and shouldn’t consume too much raw or cold food at once.
Even corn, which is hard to digest, was given only in small sections.
The two little ones carried their empty bowls to the kitchen, pouting as they stood on tiptoe to gaze at the remaining half watermelon on the counter.
Both Chu Tianshu and Jiang Furong noticed the children’s longing eyes but remained silent, quietly observing.
The two little ones glanced at their mother, knowing she wouldn’t let them have more.
Soon they unanimously turned their attention to their father, pattering over to Chu Tianshu.
Xiuxiu rubbed her belly and said: “Baba, my tummy is still flat! I’m not full yet…”
Lingling spoke somewhat shyly in a soft voice: “I still want watermelon…”
Faced with the children’s requests, Chu Tianshu looked toward Jiang Furong and chose to follow her lead: “Well… let’s wait for your mother’s instructions later. Eat whatever she says. I don’t really know about these things, so I shouldn’t interfere.”
He quickly diverted the children’s attention: “Besides watermelon, Daddy brought other delicious treats. Look what these are.”
Pointing at the tomatoes, he said: “Let me test you – do you know what these are?”
The two children eagerly rose to the challenge, wanting to impress their father.
Lingling said: “These are tomatoes! We eat them often, Mama likes them best!”
Xiuxiu followed seriously: “They’re tomateos~”
“Oh.” Chu Tianshu couldn’t help ruffling Xiuxiu’s little head – how could this child be so adorable?
“And what about these?”
Chu Tianshu pointed at other items, testing them one by one. During early childhood when humans rapidly learn about the world, he couldn’t miss being part of it.
“Flower” “Cup” “Sofa”…
Various words came tumbling from the two toddlers’ mouths.
Suddenly Lingling ran over and pointed at a “Work Hard” sticker on the wall.
He covered the character “子” with his small body and pointed at the other side: “I know, this is the character for ‘woman’.””
Xiuxiu also ran over and pointed at the other side, her little face full of seriousness: “Next to brother, is, is ‘child’. Together they make, ‘good’! Grandma says, like, like our family, having one boy and one g-girl, is, good~”
Grandma referred to Li Fengzhen, what they usually called her.
The little girl had never spoken so many words in one breath before, her face flushed with effort.
Chu Tianshu was immensely amused: “Good, hahahaha!”
His two little ones were simply too adorable!
“My precious darlings!” He couldn’t help stepping forward and scooping both children into his arms.
Truly “having one on each arm”.
Chu Tianshu secretly glanced toward Jiang Furong busy working in the kitchen, then lowered his voice: “Daddy will bring you more treats tomorrow, okay?”
The two little ones were quite clever, imitating him by glancing toward their mother before similarly lowering their voices mysteriously: “Okay!”
Xiuxiu whispered: “What will you bring?”
Chu Tianshu: “Your favorite – grapes!”
Grapevines typically take two to three years to bear fruit after planting. In the Space with watering, they should grow much faster. But they definitely couldn’t have grapes today – they’d have to wait.
The two children beamed with joy, their dark bright eyes curving beautifully.
“Pinky promise!” Lingling extended his little finger.
Xiuxiu imitated the gesture.
Chu Tianshu extended both hands, hooking pinkies with the two children. “It’s a promise!”
Watching them chat so animatedly in such a harmonious atmosphere, Jiang Furong couldn’t help but wonder: Is this the power of blood ties?
The children barely knew him before, yet in less than a day, they were already clinging to their father’s legs.
It must be because they’re his own flesh and blood.
She walked over, curious to hear what they were whispering about so mysteriously.
Just then, Chu Tianshu’s phone rang.
He glanced at the screen, and his smile faded slightly.
After a moment’s consideration, he stood up and stepped away. “You two play for now. Daddy needs to take this call.”
