Just as Qin Chuan thought he was about to die, a familiar voice rang out, “Freeze!”
It was Jin Pang!
He first tossed a body-freezing talisman, then sprinted over, grabbing both Qin Chuan and the Tianquan Sword, and ran at full speed.
When Qin Chuan used the Heavenly Steel Demon-Breaking Sword for the second time, Jin Pang had already sensed something was wrong and hurried to speed up. Fortunately, he made it just in time.
“Junior Brother Qin, that was a life-saving talisman my grandfather gave me. It can freeze a late-stage Core Formation cultivator for a quarter hour. That wolf demon is in the Pseudo-Nascent Soul Realm at most, so the talisman will only hold it for about thirty breaths. How are you feeling?” As he asked, he pulled out a precious pill from his storage pouch and fed it to Qin Chuan with a pained expression.
“That was a top-grade Heavenly Origin Rejuvenation Pill. It can help a Core Formation cultivator quickly recover spiritual energy.”
“That talisman and the pill are priceless. My stingy old man barely gave me any good stuff, and I only had a few of these treasures. You better remember to pay me back.”
Muttering nonstop, Jin Pang carried Qin Chuan and fled at top speed. Qin Chuan had already regained some energy and replied, “Thank you, Senior Brother Jin, for saving my life. I don’t have those kinds of treasures, but I can pay you in spirit stones. Would that work?”
“Sure, but at a slightly higher price. These are rare items you won’t find on the market.” Jin Pang agreed without hesitation.
“No problem. Senior Brother Jin, I can move now. Let me run on my own.” Qin Chuan nodded. Jin Pang had saved his life—paying extra spirit stones was the least he could do.
Initially, he had partnered with Jin Pang only to use him, but now he realized that alliance had saved his life. Grateful, he genuinely saw Jin Pang as a trustworthy companion.
“You run? Like hell. Focus on recovering. That wolf demon’s already broken free and is on our tail. If it catches up, I’m leaving you behind. Don’t blame me.” Jin Pang had sensed the wolf demon already breaking the freeze spell. It had only been fifteen breaths—it was stronger than expected.
“If it comes to that, I’ll hold off the wolf demon. This is my mess. I won’t drag Senior Brother Jin down.” Qin Chuan swallowed a few more pills, fully prepared for the battle ahead. That damn Heavenly Dao wanted him dead, but he wouldn’t go down easily.
He had a vicious streak. If the Heavenly Dao wanted him dead using a Pseudo-Nascent Soul wolf demon, then he’d kill the wolf demon first, then the male and female leads, and all the male supporting characters. In the end, he’d kill that damn Heavenly Dao too.
After running for a short while, they were suddenly surrounded by a pack of wolf demons. Jin Pang cursed, “Who the hell was in charge of cleaning up this Secret Realm? Useless idiots! A Pseudo-Nascent Soul wolf demon and an entire wolf pack left unchecked—when I get out of here, I’m reporting this to my old man.”
The wolf pack blocked their escape route, and the wolf demon was closing in fast from behind. Faced with the situation, Jin Pang chose the easier target—the wolf pack. He hurled a fireball and burned two wolves alive. You are reading on novelping(.)com, the official source.
“Don’t—!” Qin Chuan tried to stop him, but it was too late. Jin Pang moved too quickly.
No sooner had he slain two wolves than dozens more charged at him, aiming to tear him apart.
Jin Pang flung Qin Chuan to the side and dealt with the wolves himself, yelling, “Don’t what!? Just help me kill them!”
“Got it.” Qin Chuan knew there was no point arguing. Jin Pang had already killed some wolves—there was no going back now.
Now there was only one path left: kill the entire pack, then take down the Pseudo-Nascent Soul wolf demon.
Wielding the Tianquan Sword, Qin Chuan swung once and cut down several wolves. Jin Pang wasn’t bad either—his fireball technique burned several more. In just a few moments, the two of them cleared the immediate threat.
“Let’s fly! They can’t fly!” Qin Chuan slashed down the last wolf in front of him and soared into the sky.
Jin Pang knew Qin Chuan was right and immediately followed, taking off at full speed.
Earlier, he’d stuck to the ground to use the forest and winding paths to slow down the Pseudo-Nascent Soul wolf demon. But now, with the wolf pack interfering, staying on the ground was no longer viable.
Because of the brief delay, the wolf demon was already closing in. Given its speed compared to theirs, it was only a matter of time before it caught up.
“Senior Brother Jin, we can’t outrun it like this. This is my fault. That wolf demon is after me. We should split up.” Qin Chuan suggested. Jin Pang had already saved him once—he didn’t want to drag him down again.
“Why don’t we use our teleportation tokens and escape?” Jin Pang still hoped they could both survive.
Qin Chuan shook his head. He had checked his token the moment the chase started—useless. The damn Heavenly Dao wanted him dead. Jin Pang’s token wouldn’t work either.
“Senior Brother Jin, my token doesn’t work anymore. We have to split up now.”
Jin Pang didn’t believe it and grabbed Qin Chuan, trying to use the token himself. “How could it not work? I’ll get you out—”
Before he finished, he realized the token failed. He cursed loudly, “Fuck! It really doesn’t work! What the hell are those useless fools at Array Peak doing!? This is a life-saving item! I’m definitely having my old man demand justice from them!”
“Senior Brother Jin, go now. That wolf demon’s after me.” Qin Chuan veered off in another direction to escape, not wanting to bring Jin Pang down with him.
Jin Pang didn’t hesitate and took a different path. Before splitting up, he shouted over his shoulder, “Junior Brother Qin, hang in there! I’ll find the elders and bring help!” This chapter is updated first at g.com.
“Thank you, Senior Brother Jin!” Qin Chuan shouted back, fleeing at full speed.
But the plot twisted again. The wolf demon didn’t chase Qin Chuan—it turned and went after Jin Pang instead.
“Why isn’t it chasing me…?” Qin Chuan couldn’t understand, but he didn’t hesitate and immediately turned around to pursue the wolf demon.
He wasn’t a saint, nor a perfect good guy, but Jin Pang was being hunted only because he had saved him. Qin Chuan couldn’t abandon him.
Jin Pang also realized something was wrong. The wolf demon wasn’t chasing Qin Chuan—it was after him. He cursed, “What the hell!? Why’s it chasing me? Shouldn’t it be after Qin Chuan? Is this wolf demon brain-damaged?”
The wolf demon was much faster than early-stage Core Formation Jin Pang. It quickly caught up and was about to slash open his back.
Qin Chuan controlled the Tianquan Sword and struck the wolf demon, forcing it to retract its claws to block the sword, saving Jin Pang in the nick of time.
“Junior Brother Qin, why’s this wolf demon chasing me and not you?”
As soon as he asked, he realized it sounded wrong and quickly added, “I don’t mean it like that…”
“Maybe you’ve got wolf demon blood on you. You probably got some on your clothes while fighting them earlier. Take your clothes off, quick!” Qin Chuan said, then immediately engaged the wolf demon in close combat. Thankfully, it was only at the Pseudo-Nascent Soul Realm and couldn’t use divine abilities—just its body.
Clang. Bang. Crash.
The sounds of the Tianquan Sword clashing with the wolf demon’s claws rang out continuously. Qin Chuan had to go all out to block each strike, and after several exchanges, he was running low on spiritual energy.
“Junior Brother Qin, let me help!” Jin Pang threw off his outer robe and began launching fireballs at the wolf demon or striking it when it was distracted.
With Jin Pang’s support, Qin Chuan was still at a disadvantage but finally had some breathing room.
