My blood type was AB negative.
Aunt Nozomi’s blood type was AB positive.
After figuring out I was trying to learn more about my quirk she’d let me try a bit of hers.
A bit of a weird conversation to have but in a world full of people with superpowers and everyone sporting their own unique mutations, odd conversations were going to happen sooner or later.
Considering what Toga was probably going through back at her own home, it wasn’t something to complain about.
There’d been no difference in Bloodboost.
I wouldn’t say it was safe to rule anything out but I’m guessing the whole positive and negative thing didn’t really matter, both the strength and timing limit of the boost identical so long as the amount was too.
If I wanted a comprehensive understanding of my quirk that meant trying out different blood types.
That meant acquiring blood.
Not exactly an easy task, the sale of anything like that heavily regulated even in superpowered society and due to my lack of need for blood, Aunt Nozomi said it wasn’t something she could easily get for me.
I saw a few different solutions.
In this world, with almost every kid having a quirk, schools stocked more varied supplies, nurses more rigorously trained, and some kind of medical professionals on call.
I could try and see how willing the school staff was willing to let me try out my quirk through their supply of blood bags.
Not something they were likely to give the go ahead on.
I could wait until I got to U.A.
That school was literally meant to accommodate quirks, so they’d make it happen.
That meant deciding to fully go down that route.
I could collect the blood myself.
That was a whole can of worms to get into.
“Katsu.” Hand waved in front of my face and familiar voice rising above my music, a Bluetooth earphone in my left ear, I looked to my side without slowing my jog.
On an identical treadmill to my side Tsu was running alongside me.
“Can I listen too?”
“Huh?
Oh, you mean my music.
Sure.” Reaching into my pocket, I cracked open the case to earphones and handed over the other.
Tsu was as strange as she appeared in the anime.
She had certain disregard for boundaries and not just physical ones; with how casual she was about everything every time we met up here in the gym, you’d think we knew each other for a long time rather than just a few days.
She didn’t strike me as the most outgoing type who just happened to have no problems crossing those barriers but someone who just didn’t have enough social experience to recognize them.
Hmmm, there was one ethical and practically problem free way for me to get blood.
Asking Toga still wasn’t an option I was willing to entertain but Tsu?
Worse she could say was no.
Well, I guess the worst she could actually do was call me weird and then end our short stint as workout buddies.
“Hey.” I said once we finally stepped off the treadmills, wiping sweat from my forehead.
Sprinting and jogging with walks only for the warmup and cool down; it was more exhausting than it sounded.
“What’s your blood type?”
“That’s a weird question.” She said after lowering the water bottle she was drinking from.
“B.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t answer something you think is weird?” I suggested with a little chuckle.
“Good point.” She agreed, a little ribbit leaving her.
“Are you asking for some kind of constellation thing?
That’s been popular recently.”
“Right, I never explained how my quirk works.” I realized.
Dealing with Toga just made being vague about it a habit but it’s not like I had any concerns about hiding it with her.
“It’s called Bloodboost.
When I drink blood, I get stronger. Follow the newest chapters on novelping.com.
I haven’t really used it much so I’m not really sure about lot involving it.”
“Oh.
Are you trying to figure out whether or not blood type effects your quirk?” I nodded and she held up her arm up towards me, the sleeve of her jacket pulled back.
“Here you go.”
“Huh?” So caught off guard, I couldn’t stop the sound from leaving me before my brain caught up.
“You don’t want to like cut yourself on your finger or something?”
“Aren’t your teeth sharp so you can do that?” She questioned.
I never went out of my way to conceal them, but I’m surprised she noticed so quickly.
“This seems easier.”
Water bottle, held loosely by the cap I crossed my arms.
“You’re weird, you know that?”
“You were about to ask for my blood, ribbit.” She bluntly pointed out, barely blinking throughout the entire conversation.
“Good point.”
This was a bit of a first for me, but I guess I was going to have to get used to getting blood from the source.
No one was just going to go giving it up in the middle of a fight if I didn’t have a supply on me.
I stepped up to her and found myself at a loss.
Did I just bite her arm?
Maybe just nick the surface of her skin?
Or-
Tsu raised her arm up before I could finish coming up with a plan of action, giving me no choice but to act before it got weird.
The edge of one of my teeth nicked her skin, a bit of blood staining that tooth that I licked while backing away.
And it was like a sucker punch to the face just without all the pain.
Sour at first, the unexpectedly sharp taste caused me to recoil a little only for it to quickly fade, replaced by a sweetness that was leagues more flavorful than mine or Aunt Nozomi’s blood.
The taste was just the first punch too.
I flexed my hands, fists clenched tightly.
I felt strong enough to go head to head with a god damn lion, my entire body growing far more than it did before.
I didn’t turn into a body builder or anything, both noticeably taller with the muscle mass to maintain a relatively compact, lean form.
“This is amazing.” I muttered as I raised one of my arms, voice a little deeper too.
“It looks like blood types matter, ribbit.” Tsu pointed out, looking much smaller as she walked up to me.
She reached up, hands place on my bicep and hung herself from as if she were holding onto a branch or something.
“Does the amount matter too?
You can take more if you need to.
Ribbit.
Maybe you’ll start looking like All Might.”
That was a funny image.
Either way, her entire body weight felt light as a feather to me.
The strength differences between what my blood did and what hers managed went without question but how long would it last?
Not very long apparently.
I wasn’t timing it, but it wore off long before we made out way through what was becoming a usual workout for me, and way before we we’re stepping out the doors.
Maybe it was a case of the stronger the blood made me, the quicker the effects of my quirk ran out?
Typical game and anime logic but I still needed more testing to be absolutely sure.
“Bye.” We both said to each other, quick to head out in opposite directions.
I still needed to go practice with Enflame and HK.
If I remembered right Tsu was a family girl, mostly focused on taking care of that stuff in her free time.
How easily she breached certain barriers would take some getting used to, but she was cool.
Definitely a good work out partner.
XOXO
As it grew in size and heat, remaining shy of turning into a genuine blaze to avoid drawing any attention, I could feel my energy beginning to drain.
One: running out of this energy didn’t result in anything disastrous like me dropping dead or Scarlet and HK being dismissed.
Two: it regenerated far faster when I was asleep or doing anything in the vein of meditation.
Three: The upper limit of it seemed to increase every day.
I’d yet to go any day without trying to use it so, while I couldn’t say it was some constant increase that would go on forever, I was pretty sure it had a ton to do with the fact that I was pushing myself with it without letting up.
With all that in mind I was certain about one thing.
Baring abilities like Dry, any ability that could be affected or scaled according to my energy and how I used it, would always have potential to be worth far more than their initial label.
With Enflame for example, there was nothing stopping me from pushing the flames of it to the point that whatever it coated was unbreakable or able to slice through the hardest of materials.
Nothing aside from how well I controlled my energy and how much of it I used to fuel the ability.
It would be better to stop judging most things off their rank and look at that as more of baseline.
With the way things were going, I was going to have to accept, unless I did some wild shit, bronze tickets were going to be my bread and butter for awhile.
Ability tickets?
I had a bit of idea brewing in my head about that but as chill as Tsu was, I don’t think she was going to agree, had to time for it, or that I would even win.
Other than possibly beating one of the characters from the story in a fight, my next thought jumped to vigilantism, but the risk just wasn’t worth it.
Too many heroes all across Japan.
Even if I went out of my way to figure out areas and times of activity, one day of bad luck and I’m in a whole lot more trouble.
Trait and skill tickets?
School was looking like the place for it.
I might just look into any extracurricular activities to see if I can farm some.
Familiar tickets?
Just hanging with Toga and Tsu should passively generated those so I didn’t have to think much about that.
Items tickets?
I’d yet to earn one but if my skimming of the rules for this whole gacha was to be trusted, it wasn’t, I needed to earn or obtain valuable things to accomplish feats related to that.
Maybe a part time job?
Yen had to count right?
Not like I had the time for that though.
I could sneak around pretty reliably now; robbing people was-
Was fucking stupid.
That went from vigilantism to villain behavior even if it didn’t involve physically hurting people.
Besides, choosing to rob somebody in this world was like choosing to break into house over in the good old U S of A.
It might be illegal to use quirks out in public in most ways, but anyone conducting a bit of self defense would hardly be prosecuted for anything and I had no idea what kind of quirk I might be met with if I was caught stealing.
In a world like this it really was best to just assume everyone was walking around with a loaded gun.
Swinging Soul Solid, I reigned in the flames, its heat dropping too.
Even so, it was still a bitch to be near.
I was trying to force myself to get use to tolerating the heightened heat, but fact was, I doubted I’d ever be able to use Enflame as effectively as anyone over in the Todoroki family.
Not without hurting myself.
Maybe I should start praying to the RNG gods for some kind of item or trait that came with heat resistance.
Of course, rather than waiting for all that, I could take the biggest risk involving the yet to become psychotic Toga.
There had to be feats involving changing the future.
XOXO
(A/N: That’s AB blood and B blood.
Now we just need to get O and A in there and see what they do.
And of course, we’ve got to figure out which one of those Toga is, hopefully without any kind of craziness being triggered.
See you all around.)
