Step step, hustle hustle.
Joshua frowned subconsciously, his sleeping face scrunching up in annoyance.
“Freddy, stop making noise, man, let me sleep.”
Joshua changed his sleeping posture, putting a hand over his ear, trying to block the noise.
The steps halted for a moment, but then they moved nearer, as if the person was coming closer to Joshua’s bed.
What’s with this guy?
Usually he wakes up later than me.
Why is he
Joshua’s eyes opened abruptly.
It was a little blurry for a moment, but as it cleared, he didn’t see his dorm mate as he expected.
Instead, in front of him stood an otherworldly beauty with red hair and spectacles that hid crimson eyes eyes that were looking at him with curiosity.
She wore a Japanese-style maid costume: a navy-blue, long-sleeved dress with a white frilled apron, matching headband, and lace gloves, accented by a ribbon bow at the collar.
She was holding cleaning tools in her hand, her crimson gaze fixed on him.
Joshua never expected to wake up like this.
His thoughts had not caught up to him yet, still he subconsciously asked,
“W… who are you?”
At that, the lady put down the tools she was holding.
Pinching the hem of her maid outfit, she lifted it slightly and bowed, giving a perfect courtesy as she introduced herself.
“My name is Lilly, and I am the personal maid of Ken-sama.
Nice to make your acquaintance, Joshua-san.
I hope we’ll get along in the future.
Please let me take care of your needs as a maid should.”
Although her tone was neutral, for some reason Joshua felt like she was really excited, but that wasn’t the main problem.
At this point, he had recalled everything that happened yesterday, so the problem was—she was speaking to him in English with a Japanese accent.
Walking down the stairs, Joshua spotted Ken sitting on the sofa just like yesterday.
In his hand, he was holding what Joshua could only describe as an invitation card.
Wasn’t that the one that Alvin gave yesterday?
Ken seemed to be spacing out.
As Joshua got closer, his eyes gained focus.
“Hey,” he greeted, looking at Joshua.
“You’re up already!?”
“Yeah… umm…”
Pointing a thumb back, he looked confused.
“There’s someone saying she’s your personal maid?
In English!?”
“Ohh,” a look of understanding crossing Ken’s face,
“You met Lilly, I see. You are reading on g.com, the official source.
She’s the one that takes care of the house.”
Still looking confused, Joshua asked,
“Is she from Earth too?”
“No,” Ken replied, shaking his head.
“Ohh.
Then?”
“Well, she’s actually kinda like a robot!”
Ken looked like he didn’t know how to describe it.
“A… robot?” Joshua looked bewildered as he blinked, processing what Ken said.
From what he observed, she didn’t look like a robot at all.
There were so many questions popping up in his head.
Ken, as if noticing that, started explaining.
“You know I’m living in the middle of nowhere, right?
I can’t really hire someone to come here to clean and maintain the house.
I’m too lazy no, I mean busy to do it myself, so I created her.
Her body is fully human, but she doesn’t have a soul, so she’s kinda like a robot or AI, you know, just like in the movies.”
“Ohhh…” Joshua wasn’t sure about what Ken said but nodded as if he really did.
He suddenly asked,
“Wait, but why does she speak English?
In a Japanese accent?”
“Well, that’s on me.
I wanted someone to speak in English with me, so I taught her English.
As for the Japanese accent part, I had to teach her what to do as a maid, but it was boring, so I just dumped all the memories of maids I had into her.
Most of those memories came from anime I watched with maids, so she picked up the Japanese accent from there.”
“Ohhh…” Joshua’s first thought was that this guy was really lazy, but he didn’t show it and just nodded as if understanding whatever Ken was saying.
But speaking of memories, Joshua glared at Ken.
“You said that thing wouldn’t hurt!”
“What?
Did you get hurt!?”
“Not physically, but… do you know how it feels reliving all of your life all at once?”
Joshua had a disturbed expression, as if remembering a nightmare.
“Yes, I do.”
Not looking bothered at all, Ken continued,
“Who do you think uses that thing to begin with?”
Joshua wanted to protest more, but looking at Ken’s nonchalant expression, he just sighed.
“Whatever.
His tone filled with sarcasm.
“I actually didn’t watch it yet.”
“Huh?”
Joshua made a stunned face.
“Well, watching a movie with people is better than watching it alone, no?
You’re here, so I’ll watch it with you.”
Ken stood up.
“You should be hungry, right?”
He walked towards the door behind Joshua but paused.
Taking a sniff, he scrunched up his face.
“You stink.
Take a shower and change your clothes.”
“Ah.” Joshua sniffed, and indeed he was stinking.
It couldn’t be helped he had walked through the jungle with Alvin, sweating buckets.
“Wait, where’s the shower?” he asked hurriedly.
“Also, I don’t have extra clothes.”
Ken halted.
“Your room has a bathroom, dumbass.
Also, who do you think you are, Subaru or something?
You can’t wear a tracksuit all the time.
Ask Lilly, and she’ll bring you something.
We’ll go shopping later.”
Looking down, Joshua thought,
“But I’m not wearing a tracksuit though… is he blind?”
Ken halted again, this time turning around.
“Also, don’t try anything weird with Lilly, ok?
That would be gross.”
His expression was serious.
“Huh?
What do you mean?” Joshua, looking dumbfounded, asked.
“Oh, you know what I’m talking about.
You’re 16.
I know what a 16-year-old thinks, so don’t try anything.”
Saying that, he turned around and disappeared into the room.
For a moment, Joshua couldn’t help but scratch his head, not knowing what to do, but he sighed.
Looking at where Ken disappeared, he gave a middle finger.
“Stupid old man.”
He then hurriedly walked up the stairs, going back to the room he slept in last night.
