Chapter 25: You Rented This, Didn’t You?

My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

Sensing Su Miaoke’s confusion, Chu Feng took out his phone and handed it to her.

"It’s on the weather forecast."

Actually, this was one of the abilities Chu Feng now possessed—to predict changes in the weather, and in all things.

This was all thanks to the Token the God of Wealth had given him.

Chu Feng understood that the matter of the God of Wealth couldn’t be casually mentioned to others; the implications were too great.

After all, the God of Wealth had given him an inheritance, which included a Cultivation Technique and a Token.

By now, Chu Feng completely believed what the God of Wealth had said. He had truly been given a heaven-sent opportunity.

That evening, Mother Chu prepared a new bed for the two of them. Under the room’s dim light, the atmosphere became subtly delicate.

"Let’s go to sleep," Su Miaoke said.

Chu Feng nodded, began to take off his clothes, and slipped into bed.

The night passed without a word.

The next morning, Su Miaoke woke up, pulled open the curtains, and looked out the window.

"Chu Feng, it’s really snowing!" Su Miaoke said excitedly.

Outside, the world was a vast expanse of white, draped in a silvery blanket of snow. Large, fluffy flakes were still drifting down from the sky, and a chill hung in the air.

"You’ve really never seen snow?" Chu Feng asked, a little skeptical.

"No, I’ve only ever seen it on TV," said Su Miaoke.

"Hurry up and get dressed! Let’s go have a snowball fight," Su Miaoke said, buzzing with excitement.

"Are you sure? Don’t come complaining to me when you’re cold," Chu Feng asked, glancing at the excited Su Miaoke.

"I’m not afraid. If I get cold, I still have you, right?" Su Miaoke replied.

Five minutes later, the three of them were dressed and playing around in the courtyard.

Before long, Su Miaoke returned to the house, her slender hands frozen bright red.

"It’s too cold," Su Miaoke said, her teeth chattering.

"Told you so. Look at what the cold did to your hands," Chu Feng said, extending his own hand to firmly grasp her slender hands.

"Your hands are so warm," Su Miaoke said in surprise, feeling the heat from Chu Feng’s hands.

Chu Feng didn’t know how it happened either. Ever since he started practicing the Qi Cultivation Technique, his physical constitution had improved by leaps and bounds.

"Miaoke, come have breakfast!" Mother Chu’s voice called out.

Arriving in the main hall, they found another table laden with a sumptuous feast.

"It smells amazing," Su Miaoke said, looking at the table full of dishes, her mouth practically watering.

"Hurry and eat, Miaoke. Have some more," Mother Chu said happily, placing food onto Su Miaoke’s plate.

This made Chu Feng and Chu Hao stare, dumbfounded.

"Mom, I don’t see you putting food on our plates like that," Chu Hao said sourly.

"Shoo, shoo. Don’t even think about it until you bring home a daughter-in-law for me too," Mother Chu said, glaring lightly at Chu Hao.

This sent the whole family into fits of laughter.

"Don’t worry, little brother. Focus on your studies for now. Your sister-in-law will introduce you to someone when the time is right," Su Miaoke said with a smile.

After the family finished breakfast, Mother Chu carefully took something out and pressed it into Su Miaoke’s hands.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Looking at the household registration book in her hands, Su Miaoke was a bit stunned. ’Is this... her pushing us to get our marriage license?’

"Xiao Feng has met your parents, and we’re very happy with you as a daughter-in-law. Before the New Year arrives, you two should register your marriage. We can hold an engagement ceremony before then," Mother Chu said to Su Miaoke.

"Ah?" Su Miaoke was caught completely off guard by this, and her pretty face instantly turned bright red.

"What ’ah’? Have Chu Feng take you to the Civil Affairs Bureau right now to get your license," Mother Chu said decisively.

Compared to the partner Chu Sea brought home, Mother Chu was incomparably fond of Su Miaoke.

Chu Sea’s partner had only been back for one night and had already raised hell, smashing things and cursing people, all because it was too cold and inconvenient to take a shower.

Hearing his mother’s words, Chu Feng was filled with emotion.

It all felt like a dream, so unreal.

’A few days ago, I was just a poor, struggling worker; a few days later, I’m marrying a rich woman.’

Holding the household registration book, the two of them walked towards the village entrance.

By then, the Mercedes-Benz was covered in a thick layer of snow, and Chu Feng was brushing the heavy accumulation off the windshield.

At the village entrance, many villagers were shoveling the snow on the road to make it easier to walk.

"Well, if it isn’t Chu Feng. Where are you off to?" Suddenly, a mocking voice came from behind.

Chu Feng turned to see it was Chu Sea, from the same village. Beside him was a gaudily dressed woman.

She was wearing black stockings in the dead of winter, her legs shaking uncontrollably from the cold.

"Oh, it’s you, Chu Sea. I’m about to head to the county town to register my marriage with my wife. What’s up? Need something?" Chu Feng asked nonchalantly.

Chu Feng had never been particularly fond of this Chu Sea guy.

The guy had been arrogant and looked down on Chu Feng since they were kids.

"Well now, Chu Feng, I’m surprised. You actually managed to find such a beautiful girlfriend? You didn’t just rent her to show your parents, did you?" Chu Sea said loudly, seeming to intentionally raise his voice.

Many of the villagers at the entrance heard him clearly, and a few women immediately began to gossip quietly among themselves.

"No way. Chu Feng’s girlfriend is rented? You can rent a partner these days?" one woman said curiously.

"You didn’t know? I keep telling you to spend more time online. There’s a whole business now where people rent themselves out as fake partners, specifically to fool parents back home," another woman whispered.

"Is that so? Then Chu Feng’s girlfriend is really rented?" another woman chimed in, walking over from nearby and joining the gossip circle.

Chu Sea’s words made Chu Feng frown, a hint of anger flashing across his face.

’This guy is just looking for trouble.’

"Yeah, I did. You want to rent one too?" Chu Feng said, shooting him a glance.

"I’m just a little curious. You’re a salesman making thirty-five hundred a month. How can you afford to rent a girlfriend to bring home? And not just any girlfriend, but one this beautiful? I bet she alone cost you more than half a year’s salary, right?"

"And this car, renting it for a day must cost a pretty penny too, right? I have a friend who works at a car rental agency, so I know all the tricks. Chu Feng, you’ve become so fake. Just to show off for the New Year, you probably blew your entire year’s salary."

Chu Sea stood to the side, relentlessly taunting and mocking, his words painting Chu Feng as utterly worthless.

"Why are you wasting so much time talking to a loser? It’s freezing out here! Hurry up and get in the car," the gaudy woman said angrily, frozen half to death.

At that moment, Su Miaoke couldn’t stand it anymore.

"What did you just say? A dog’s mouth can’t spit out ivory. What do you mean, ’rented’? Believe it or not, I could bury you in money?"

She stepped forward, her face a mask of displeasure.

Chu Feng stepped forward and took Su Miaoke’s hand, saying, "Get in the car first. I’ll handle this."
