Chapter 9: A House on the First Meeting?

My Mother-in-Law Gifted Me a Building

"Hm, not bad. Come on in." Father Su nodded after sizing Chu Feng up. Although his expression was a bit stern, he seemed quite satisfied.

"Young man, you’re quite handsome! Very good-looking and cheerful." After they went inside, Mother Su wouldn’t stop complimenting Chu Feng.

This left Chu Feng a bit stunned. He was incredibly flattered and overwhelmed.

’What in the world is going on?’

’This isn’t at all what I expected.’

’He had assumed that when he visited, Su Miaoke’s parents would give him the cold shoulder. They might have even given him a harsh scolding.’

And just like that, he walked into the Su family home in a complete daze.

"Come on, you must be hungry. It’s so late. Hurry up and eat," Mother Su urged Chu Feng.

The moment he saw the sumptuous feast on the table, Chu Feng could feel his mouth starting to water.

"Uh, yes, okay, okay," Chu Feng passively agreed, finding it all a bit much to take in.

"I’ll call you Xiao Feng from now on, is that alright?" Mother Su asked with a smile.

"Auntie, you can call me whatever you like," Chu Feng replied hastily.

Seeing Chu Feng’s flustered state, Su Miaoke couldn’t help but snicker from the sidelines.

"Here, eat up. You need to eat more to stay healthy." Mother Su kept piling food onto Chu Feng’s plate, showering him with concern.

This left Chu Feng feeling incredibly flattered and overwhelmed. He simply couldn’t get used to it.

Father Su, Su Linsheng, even poured Chu Feng a drink himself.

Half an hour later, the four of them had eaten and drunk their fill.

"Xiao Feng, what’s your level of education?" Su Linsheng suddenly asked.

Hearing this, Chu Feng’s heart skipped a beat. He put down his chopsticks and said, "I have a bachelor’s degree."

Su Linsheng nodded, then asked, "And where are you from? Do you own a house? Where do you work? How’s your income?"

Faced with this string of questions from Su Miaoke’s father, Chu Feng hesitated for a moment before answering, "I’m from the countryside. I don’t own a house, I’m just in sales, and my income isn’t very high."

Having said this much, Chu Feng was already preparing to get up and leave.

’Usually, once the conversation got to this point, most parents would no longer approve of the relationship.’

"Sir, I know my circumstances..." Chu Feng began to say.

But before he could finish, Su Linsheng cut him off.

"That’s enough. You don’t have to say it. We already know all of that," Su Linsheng said.

Chu Feng glanced at Su Miaoke, but she was perfectly calm, seemingly not worried in the slightest.

This annoyed Chu Feng. ’Did she bring me home just to be humiliated?’

Just then, Mother Su also spoke up.

"Xiao Feng, we’re aware of your circumstances, and I understand it hasn’t been easy for you. But Miaoke has been pampered her whole life, living in the lap of luxury, so..."

Hearing this, Chu Feng understood. He didn’t want to stick around to be humiliated any longer, so he immediately shot to his feet.

"Auntie, Sir, I get it. I know my circumstances aren’t good enough for your daughter. I have somewhere to be, so I’ll be going now."

With that, Chu Feng turned to leave.

"Wait, Xiao Feng, you’re misunderstanding me! Don’t leave in such a hurry. I still have something for you," Mother Su said, quickly stopping him.

She took something from her pocket and pressed it into Chu Feng’s hand.

He opened his palm and saw a set of keys. Chu Feng was stunned.

"Auntie, what is this...?" Chu Feng asked in confusion.

"We know it’s not easy for you, coming to this big city to work all alone after college, not making much money. Back when your uncle and I graduated, we were penniless too. We know what it’s like to struggle."

"So, your uncle and I understand what you’re going through. But Miaoke... she’s never had to struggle. That’s why I’m giving you this villa in Bihai Bay. This way, you two will have a place to live together."

Mother Su gripped Chu Feng’s hand and spoke with utmost sincerity, which left Chu Feng completely dumbfounded.

"Huh?"

’Holy crap! Is this for real?’

Chu Feng’s head was buzzing.

’His future mother-in-law just gave him a house on their very first meeting? A villa, no less!’

And he knew about the Bihai Bay villas.

While not the most prestigious villa complex in Beihai, it was easily in the top five, just a step below Bright Moon Mountain.

A villa there cost tens of millions, at least!

"What’s with the ’huh’? Just take it already. Or do you not like your first-meeting gift from me?" Mother Su said, giving Chu Feng a playful glare.

"Xiao Feng, I don’t have a great gift for you either," Su Linsheng chimed in. "Here’s a card. Consider it some pocket money. Go on, take it. There’s a million in there. If that’s not enough, just let me know."

’Holy shit!’

’Chu Feng was floored all over again.’

’This was like something out of a dream.’

’Am I really a kept man now?’

"Huh? This..." Chu Feng was at a total loss.

"What’s with the ’huh’? Just take it. Or are our gifts not good enough for you?" Su Linsheng’s brow furrowed, a hint of irritation in his voice.

"No, that’s not it! Sir, Auntie, your gifts are just too valuable. I can’t possibly accept them," Chu Feng said, waving his hands in refusal.

’Anyone would be stunned in a situation like this, right?’

Seeing Chu Feng’s gawky reaction, Su Miaoke snickered to herself.

"It’s a token of my parents’ goodwill. If they’re telling you to take it, just take it!" Su Miaoke said with a smile, covering her mouth.

"That’s right, Xiao Feng. How are your parents’ health? Are you going back home for the New Year? Why don’t you take Miaoke home with you?" Mother Su asked.

"Home?" Chu Feng was shocked yet again.

"You’ve come with Miaoke to meet us. Shouldn’t she go and meet your parents as well?" Mother Su said.

"Xiao Feng, your auntie and I are too busy to visit, we have too much to deal with," Su Linsheng said nonchalantly. "Just give your parents our regards. Next year, we’ll find some time to invite them to the city."

Chu Feng was rooted to the spot. This time, he knew for sure: he was officially a kept man.

"What is it? Is there a problem?" Su Linsheng asked, frowning.

"N-no problem. I’ll be sure to pass along the message. Thank you, Sir. Thank you, Auntie," Chu Feng said, hurrying to be polite.

"Hm? You’ve already accepted our gifts, but you’re still calling me ’Auntie’?" Mother Su said, giving Chu Feng a sidelong glance.

"Then... what should I call you?" Chu Feng suddenly felt his confidence waver.

He had wished to the God of Wealth for a beautiful, rich girlfriend so he could be a kept man.

But he never expected it to be this easy. They were showering him with gifts and money on their first meeting, without a single obstacle.

"Mom?" Chu Feng ventured.

"Now that’s more like it." Mother Su nodded happily.

Su Linsheng also glanced at Chu Feng.

Chu Feng braced himself and called out again, "Dad?"

Su Linsheng nodded in satisfaction, a faint smile gracing his lips.

Su Miaoke watched from the side, sighing inwardly.

’She knew her parents had been impatient to marry her off for a long time.’
