“You… you…!” Chen Jie’s finger trembled as she pointed at Su Chengzi, nearly choking with rage.
The other executives from Canyang Entertainment also frowned disapprovingly. A middle-aged man snapped in a low voice, “Li Wanbai, is this someone you brought along? How utterly rude and uncivilized! Claiming to be your personal assistant, but really just someone here to seek employment – how dare she be so impudent! Such a person cannot be your assistant! We’re saying this for your own good – you must listen to us and make her leave immediately! Someone like this by your side, every word and action represents you. If she does something inappropriate and it gets out, it will damage your reputation, your public image!”
“So I still have a reputation and public image?” Li Wanbai said with a laugh. “I thought I’d long lost those things, given all the insults I’ve been seeing online these past few days.”
Her words left the other Canyang Entertainment executives speechless, their intended retorts stuck in their throats.
Yu Baichuan glanced up at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
Su Chengzi suddenly cleared her throat lightly and shot Yu Baichuan a meaningful look. He immediately understood and said calmly, “I never expected Canyang Entertainment to have such an interesting assistant. Quite amusing. Let’s all sit down and continue, since this concerns your master.”
Damn it! Who still uses words like “master” these days? Anyone hearing this would think you’re living in feudal times! Su Chengzi opened her mouth, about to retort, but stopped herself just in time when she remembered he was on their side. If not for that moment of restraint, Yu Baichuan would have been subjected to a torrent of abuse too.
As Li Wanbai took her seat, she gave Su Chengzi a thumbs-up.
Damn, sister! Your attacking power hasn’t weakened over the years – if anything, it’s gotten even fiercer!
Su Chengzi snorted lightly and sat down beside her.
The others could only seethe in silent anger. Even though Su Chengzi had verbally torn apart their proud star agent, her words dripping with contempt and disdain for Canyang Entertainment, leaving them fuming and scratching their heads in frustration, there was nothing they could do.
They didn’t know that Yu Baichuan, Su Chengzi, and Li Wanbai had grown up together since childhood. But since Yu Baichuan had spoken up, clearly showing his approval of her, if Canyang Entertainment tried to force Su Chengzi out now, it would be a grave insult to Yu Baichuan. They had no choice but to swallow their pride and accept it.
Su Chengzi sat upright, effectively blocking most of the glances directed at Li Wanbai, adopting a protective stance.
Completely unaware of this, Li Wanbai slumped lazily in her chair, her gaze fixed intently on Yu Baichuan, her eyes filled with admiration.
Handsome! As expected of the campus heartthrob she had acknowledged – only this face could match her ideal image of a lover.
Unfortunately, Yu Baichuan didn’t spare her a single glance, instead discussing the program script with the Canyang Entertainment executives.
Our variety show recording is very short – only four days of filming for four episodes. If this were an ordinary variety show, it wouldn’t create much buzz at all, and certainly wouldn’t be able to invite someone like Yu Baichuan or Li Wanbai.
Just like some TV dramas with many episodes that only release a few per week, this approach infinitely builds up audience anticipation. This way, viewers will watch every week, providing consistent viewership and topic engagement. If all episodes were released within a single week, the returns would be significantly diminished.
Our variety show only has four episodes. No matter how much it’s extended, the limitation of being a short series means that if it takes the conventional route, it definitely won’t generate much buzz. However, it deliberately avoids the conventional path by adopting a fully live broadcast format.
With a fully live broadcast, there are far too many areas where mistakes can easily occur.
Canyang Entertainment and Haiya Group are the main investors in our variety show. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been so easy to invite the heads of both companies. They must strictly control all aspects where errors are likely to occur in the live broadcast, preferably avoiding them in advance. Otherwise, one mistake could lead to a hundred more, dragging down the entire program—the losses would be too great.
The two sides first discussed the issue of the recording venue. Then, the CEO of Canyang Entertainment abruptly changed the subject and asked, “By the way, can President Yu accept it?”
This sudden, out-of-context remark left even Yu Baichuan’s handsome face momentarily blank.
Xu Tu quickly asked, “What do you mean, President Zhang? Accept what?”
“What I mean is, can President Yu accept recording a variety show with our Wanbai?” President Zhang still wore the same smiling expression.
Unexpectedly, the first to speak wasn’t Li Wanbai or Yu Baichuan, but Ye Xiruo, who urgently said, “Why wouldn’t Teacher Yu accept it? Teacher Yu and our Xiaobai are husband and wife! Recording a variety show together is practically like a publicly funded honeymoon!”
“But I heard the two of you have been discussing divorce recently.”
Su Chengzi scoffed.
Li Wanbai shook her head. “That’s not true.”
Don’t talk nonsense.
I haven’t even won him back yet, and this comment just set me back to square one.
“Don’t worry, it won’t affect the variety show recording. I’ve always been very patient with the artists from your company. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have let you leech off me for so long,” Yu Baichuan said softly.
He didn’t deny the divorce matter, as he considered it a fact.
Even if it wasn’t a fact now, it would eventually become one.
Li Wanbai understood his thoughts all too well and sighed silently to herself. It seemed the road to winning back her husband would be long and arduous.
After the meeting ended and the others gradually left the conference room, Li Wanbai stayed behind, patiently waiting for Yu Baichuan and his team to finish organizing their documents.
Coincidentally, by the time everyone else had left, Yu Baichuan and his team had just finished sorting the files.
He looked up and asked, “Is there something?”
“Yes, there is,” Li Wanbai nodded repeatedly. “I came to explain to you, I…”
“Don’t tell me your explanation is still that you’ve lost your memories of the past ten years—that utterly childish excuse?”
Li Wanbai was instantly silenced. He predicted my prediction and stole all my lines!
He’s saying all my words!
“Only you would use such a clumsy excuse to negate everything that happened over the past ten years,” Yu Baichuan said indifferently.
“But I really have lost my memories of the past ten years, I’m not lying! I don’t even know why we got married or why we’re divorcing,” Li Wanbai whispered.
Xu Tu kept his head down, pretending to be a quail, acting as if he were deaf and blind, refusing to get involved in his boss and his wife’s affairs.
Su Chengzi stood by the conference room door, guarding it for them, and didn’t speak either.
For a moment, the entire conference room fell into an eerie silence.
“I don’t understand, what exactly are you trying to do?”
After a long while, Yu Baichuan’s voice came softly, faintly, like a breeze drifting into Li Wanbai’s ears, “I’ve received your explanation. The Divorce Agreement will be delivered to your place in three days.”
As he spoke, he stood up and strode quickly toward the conference room door. Xu Tu was startled and hurried to follow.
Li Wanbai shouted loudly, “You still don’t believe me!”
“Does whether I believe you really matter?”
