The bones on that man’s arms grew back almost instantly. I was quite shocked to see it. It wasn’t over.
But before any of them could do anything else, the officer stepped in, stopping between them.
"The fight is over," he said. "Both of you passed the test."
Then he called for two more candidates, then two more... Honestly, some fights were cool to watch. Seeing new powers was exciting, and it was good to know everything I could about the new students.
But something was just wrong. They accepted too many disciples; like, only a handful didn’t pass the test, which was the complete opposite of a prestigious academy.
Before, the officer stated that they would try to accept at least 50% of students, which was already huge. However, it ended up being more like 70% of them being accepted.
During one fight, I even saw the officer getting a phone call. Then, suddenly, after getting said call, he started accepting more students.
I didn’t complain aloud, of course. It was best to keep the doubts to myself, but I was sure others were thinking the same thing.
After the process was over, the officer talked to all the accepted students. As for the one who didn’t get in, they were escorted outside to leave and return to their daily lives.
"Your classes will start tomorrow morning," the officer said, his gaze scanning all the new students. "I’ll show you where your dorms are. Breakfast starts at 6 am, and classes at 7."
That was quite early. I wasn’t used to waking up so early, but if those were the rules, I had to follow them.
On the way to the dorm, Selena talked to me, wanting to know more about my recommendation letter.
"So you’re like good friends with such a powerful hunter. Is he like, part of your family?"
She thought Lion Heart was part of my family, and that’s why he gave me that letter. I didn’t blame her. That was the most plausible explanation.
"No, not like that," I said, shaking my head. "We are just friends, if you could say that."
At one point, the guard who had been with me left.
"I have my own duties, so we’ll see each other another time," the guard said as he left.
Selena glanced at the departing guard, then toward me, frowning.
"Why is he so respectful to you? The fuck?"
I didn’t answer her. Well, I shrugged my shoulders. I believe that was some kind of answer.
The dorms were slightly far from everything else. It was their way of controlling the students, not allowing them to wander at night.
There was nothing around the dorm to act as cover, so anyone trying to sneak out during the night would be easily spotted by the patrolling guards.
The dorms weren’t mixed. They didn’t want guys to focus on hitting on girls and not studying to become hunters. Some just couldn’t resist the baddies...
Anyway, there was still time before the day ended, so the newly accepted students decided to go together on an academy tour. I already had the tour, so I didn’t feel the need to go with them.
It pissed them off.
"Do you think you’re above us or something?" A blond young man came up to me and said that.
"I didn’t say anything," I replied, not retreating a step, keeping my ground. "I already had a tour before, so there’s no need to do it again."
"Oh? So why don’t you show us around?"
For some reason, the guy had the support of all the other new guys who were admitted into the academy. The only one who looked uncomfortable with the whole situation was the guy with glasses who had the wind power.
"Why should I? I’m not a tour guide. I’m sure you can explore the academy on your own. Or maybe you need a babysitter?"
The guy turned red with anger, and some of the new students covered their mouths, trying not to laugh at his face. He didn’t say anything else. He just left. Everyone else followed him, except the guy with glasses.
He approached me. I could tell he was the shy type.
"I’m Thomas, but you can call me Tom."
"Vincent, or Vince. Why aren’t you going with them?"
"You mean those douchbags? No, thank you. I can explore things on my own; no need to have those idiots around me."
"How did that blonde guy get in charge?" I asked.
"He just thinks he did. His family has money, so that’s why everyone wants to please him, but I don’t care."
Tom went silent for a moment, and I knew he wanted to ask something. I didn’t push him, letting the guy gather his thoughts and his courage to ask whatever he wanted.
"Would you mind coming to the library with me? I want to look for a book."
I had nothing better to do, so I accepted the offer.
"Sure."
Tom stood there, not moving. He awkwardly smiled. "You already know the place, so can you show me where the library is? Lead the way..."
I didn’t know exactly where the library was, but I guessed it was inside the main building where the classrooms were. So, we decided to go there first.
While walking through the courtyard, we spotted the group of new students again. They were exploring every part of the academy.
From afar, I saw the blonde guy’s angry gaze. It was like he was targeting us, both Tom and me. I already fucking knew they would soon come looking for trouble. My time as a student wouldn’t be so peaceful; it seemed...
We entered the main building, followed by the other new students.
"It seems you ended up giving a tour," the blonde guy said to me.
He then walked over to a guard standing inside the building and asked him a question. The guard didn’t reply to him.
"I cannot help you. Go ask someone else," the guard said in a cold voice.
I decided to ask something too.
"Hey, could you show us where the library is?"
The guard looked at me and smiled. "Of course. Follow me."
The treatment was very different, leaving the blond guy burning with anger again.
