“Morning, President.”
Elaine imagined that once she took back Valtros Group, she’d be the one everyone called President!
She was so caught up in her daydream that she didn’t watch where she was walking.
Her foot suddenly slipped, and she started falling backward.
Just as her butt was about to hit the ground in front of everyone, a large hand reached out and grabbed her waist in time.
“Ah!” The scream got stuck in her throat.
Blinking rapidly, she looked up at Marcus, who still had one arm around her waist.
Her cheeks flushed a little as she mumbled, “Sorry about that.”
She quickly stood up straight, but Marcus didn’t move away.
Instead, he glanced sideways at Henry, who had just parked the car and was walking over.
“Who’s on cleaning duty today?”
Henry had seen what happened.
Without missing a beat, he called over the cleaning supervisor.
The supervisor spotted the little puddle of water on the floor and instantly admitted fault, bowing slightly.
“I’m so sorry, sir.
I’ll have someone take care of it right away.”
Marcus’s face went cold.
His tone was sharp.
“Tell that person they don’t need to come in tomorrow.”
Elaine was stunned.
All that over a tiny puddle?
Was it really necessary to fire someone over it?
“She got fired just like that?” she murmured, uneasy.
Tiptoeing over to Henry, she whispered to him, “Mr.
Bennett, is your company always this strict?”
Henry gave a respectful nod.
“Yes, Mrs.
Sinclair.”
Elaine forced out a nervous laugh.
“That’s intense.” Just as she finished, Marcus grabbed her by the collar and pulled her over to his side.
“No chatting during work hours.”
With her 160 cm height next to his 185 cm frame, getting yanked like that made her look ridiculously petite—almost like one of those delicate anime girls.
The worst part?
This whole scene happened while they were waiting for the executive elevator, right beside the employee ones.
Basically, half the office just witnessed that.
Elaine mumbled in her defense, “It’s not even official work hours yet…
and it’s my first day.”
Marcus didn’t even bother responding.
As soon as the elevator arrived, he practically shoved her inside.
Elaine had no choice but to play along, grudgingly apologizing.
“Okay, okay, I get it.
My bad.
Could you cut me some slack, Marcus?”
Honestly, it looked more like flirting than anything else.
Henry hesitated at the elevator door, debating whether to join them.
He had no clue what kind of situation they had going on, but he definitely wasn’t about to be a third wheel.
Marcus dropped Elaine off at his office.
“I’ve got a morning meeting.
Wait here for a bit.
Someone from the secretary’s office will come get you.”
Elaine nodded.
“Got it.”
Once he left, she started exploring the office.
Everything about it screamed power and prestige.
She couldn’t help but imagine what it’d be like if this space were hers.
The vibe was incredible—like she literally ruled the world from this spot.
“Did you guys see that?
The President actually fired someone on the spot because Mrs.
Sinclair almost slipped.”
“Yeah, just because she *almost* fell!”
“What’s going on with that?”
“I thought the President didn’t care much about his wife before?”
“Maybe those rumors weren’t true after all?”
“I don’t know, she used to visit the office a lot, but he barely acknowledged her back then.”
In a foul mood already, Isabella Reid overheard the gossip and grew even more irritated.
She snapped at them.
“You’re on the clock.
Get back to work.”
