Left alone in the quiet luxury suite, Koko sat on the edge of the mattress, the silence of the room amplifying the sudden, intense pulse of residual itch deep within her right leg.

Curiosity flaring, she reached for the waistband of her trousers and slid them down, letting the fabric pool softly around her ankles.

She leaned back slightly against the silk pillows, shifting her weight as her fingers glided up her smooth, pale thigh.Full novel: My Slice-of-Life Reality Has a Containment Breach! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Her breath caught in her throat.

There, etched directly into the delicate, creamy skin of her inner right thigh, was a pristine, dark engraving.

She ran a single, trembling fingertip over the mark.

It felt intensely sensitive, a strange, electric current shooting straight up her spine at the touch.

The dark ink formed a flawless, precise Roman numeral, IV.

It sat flush against her skin, looking dangerously beautiful, a permanent, indelible brand marking her as a monster of the council.

A breathless, shivering gasp escaped her lips, her eyes widening as a flush of pure excitement colored her cheeks.

The sensual, burning ache of the brand was absolute, physical proof.

Every single second of the cosmic boardroom, the thirteen seats, and the entities that defied logic were fact.

(Author: I’m telling you those details are absolutely necessary for the plot. The lonely author is talking to the nearby wall. Author: Hey! The readers can confirm for me… Right?…)

A manic, ecstatic smile slowly spread across her face.

She pulled her clothing back into place, her heart hammering with a terrifying thrill as she snatched her upgraded phone from the nightstand and dialed a familiar number.

The line didn’t even ring twice before it connected.

“Koko?!” Kasper’s voice exploded through the speaker, dripping with an immediate, raw panic that was completely uncharacteristic for the usually composed arms dealer.

“Are you awake? Tell me you’re alright! Valmet told me you dropped like a stone right in the middle of a room. What the hell happened? Are you hurt?!”

Koko let out a soft, melodic laugh, leaning back into the pillows as she twirled a lock of her silver hair.

“Good evening… or morning to you too, big brother! Calm down, I’m perfectly fine. Your precious little sister just needed a tiny, unexpected beauty sleep, that’s all.”

On the other end of the line, Kasper let out a long, ragged exhale, his voice dripping with immense relief.

“Don’t scare me like that, Koko. You know our line of work doesn’t afford us the luxury of sudden medical mysteries. If our competitors think you’re weak, they’ll swarm like sharks.”

“Oh, let them try,” Koko purred, her hidden gaze turning icy cold as she stared at the wall.

“Actually, Kasper… while I was out, I think I might have stumbled upon something completely extraordinary. Something that makes our entire global weapons market look like a bunch of toddlers playing with plastic blocks.”

There was a brief pause on the line, followed by a low, amused chuckle from Kasper.

“An extraordinary find? Let me guess, you had a wild dream about a secret stash of alien technology while you were unconscious? Are you sure you’re actually awake, or are you just hallucinating from a lack of sleep?”

“Hey! I’m completely serious!” Koko pouted playfully, though her fingers tightened around her indestructible phone.

“You’ll see what I mean soon enough.”

“Right, right,” Kasper laughed, clearly making fun of her eccentric nature.

Before his tone could wander, he softened, his voice carrying the genuine, protective warmth of an older brother.

“Listen to me, Koko. You’ve been pushing yourself too hard lately. Take a real break today. Go out, do some shopping, and just relax. I’ll personally handle the missed shipping deals and the clients you stood up this morning. Consider it my treat.”

Koko’s eyes sparkled, a brilliant, genuine smile returning to her face.

“Wow, really? The great Kasper Hekmatyar is doing charity work for me? I accept! Thank you, big brother. I think I’ll take your advice and head over to Egypt for a little retail therapy.”

“Egypt? Well, enjoy the pyramids,” Kasper smiled through the phone.

“Just don’t buy anything that blows up without telling me first. Stay safe, Koko.”

“I will. Bye-bye!”

She tapped the unremovable red shield icon on her dashboard, her eyes locking onto the yellow beacon pulsing aggressively over Hamleys Toy Shop in New Cairo.

Kasper wanted her to take a shopping break, and she was a very obedient little sister.

It was time to rally Lehm and the squad for a trip to the mall.

(Back to the present…)

“Alright, boys and girls,” Koko purred, a chilling, playful giggle humming through the comms.

“Let’s clean up the trash quickly. We have a very special item waiting for us on the top shelf, and I hate being kept waiting.”

The two technicals forming the roadblock ahead didn’t even stand a chance.

From the third vehicle, Ugo floorboarded the accelerator of his heavily armored transport, letting out a wild roar.

The massive steel-reinforced bumper slammed head-on into the flank of the blocking pickup trucks with a horrific crunch of tearing metal, tossing them aside like cardboard boxes.

Lutz and Wiley popped out of the windows of the second vehicle, firing precise suppression bursts that completely shattered the enemy’s line of sight.

Through the freshly paved gap, Lehm didn’t even tap the brakes.

The three-car convoy tore past the smoking wreckage, burning rubber as they swung a final hard turn into the massive parking complex of the Cairo Festival City Mall.

They immediately split the team to maintain absolute operational control.

Lehm, Valmet, Ugo, Mao, and Wiley stayed behind with the vehicles, keeping the engines idling, locking down the perimeter, and securing a clean, weaponized escape path in case the local syndicate tried a second wave.

Meanwhile, Jonah, Lutz, and Tojo fell into a tight protective diamond formation around Koko as they marched briskly toward the grand glass entrance of the mall.

Their assault rifles and high-caliber pistols were perfectly concealed beneath their loose-fitting tactical jackets and civilian clothes, though their hyper-alert posture instantly screamed special forces to anyone paying close attention.

As they stepped onto the polished marble floors of the air-conditioned shopping center, Lutz leaned down slightly, his eyes scanning the bustling morning crowds.

“Koko, the perimeter inside is clear for now,” he reported in a low whisper.

“But what exactly is the objective here? If we are looking for a high-value asset, a safehouse, or a data terminal, we need to know what to look for.”

Koko didn’t look up from her phone, her eyes locked onto the glowing yellow beacon pulsing dead ahead.

“We are here to pick up a very special stuffed bear, boys!” Koko chirped cheerfully, her voice carrying an eccentric lightness that completely bypassed the gravity of their environment.

The three men froze for a fraction of a second, exchanging deeply puzzled, bewildered looks through the silence.

A legendary international weapons syndicate had just fought through a bloody militia ambush, run a heavy vehicle roadblock, and infiltrated an Egyptian mega-mall…

just to buy a plush toy.

“A… teddy bear, Koko?” Lutz muttered, scratching the back of his neck in utter disbelief.

“Are you sure you didn’t hit your head when you collapsed earlier?”

“I am completely serious! Now come on, keep up!” Koko pouted, picking up her pace as the tracking software on her screen indicated they were less than fifty meters away.

Following the precise telemetry of her phone, the group quickly rounded a corner to find the massive, colorful facade of Hamleys Toy Shop.

The bright, playful lights of the store stood in stark contrast to the hardened combatants standing outside it.

“Lutz, Tojo, hold the perimeter outside the entrance and keep your eyes peeled,” Koko commanded, her tone suddenly shifting into a brief, sharp administrative snap.

“Jonah, you’re with me.”

“Understood,” Jonah muttered flatly, his hand slipping inside his jacket to rest on his compact weapon as he stepped through the threshold right behind her.

Koko walked down the wide, toy-lined aisles, completely ignoring the rows of plastic action figures and video games until she saw her target.

She stopped dead in her tracks in front of a display shelf.

There, sitting quietly among dozens of mass-produced toys, was a single stuffed teddy bear.

It was roughly 30 centimeters tall, uniquely crafted out of mismatched patchwork fabric, and possessed a small, stitched heart over its chest.

SCP-2295.

Koko grabbed the bear by its plush arm, a brilliant, victorious smile lighting up her face.

She walked straight to the checkout counter, casually tossed a stack of local currency to the bewildered Egyptian cashier without waiting for change, and walked right back out of the shop.

Rejoining the waiting squad outside, she cradled the fabric entity under her arm like a regular prize.

“Objective secured, team! Let’s head back to the convoy before the local police start asking questions about the highway wreckage.”

The moment Koko’s boots hit the concrete of the underground parking structure, Tojo’s earpiece crackled with static.

“We’ve got company!” Lehm’s voice snapped over the comms, cold and urgent.

“Those militia idiots just rolled past the main perimeter gates. They brought backup.”

“Inside, now!” Lutz barked, slamming his hand against the rear door of the lead armored SUV.

The squad moved with mechanical efficiency, diving into their designated seats as the heavy doors sealed shut with a thick, pressurized thud.

Ugo threw his transport into reverse, tires screeching against the smooth concrete as the three-car convoy tore out of the dark garage and blasted onto the sun-drenched highway, leaving their pursuers scrambling in the rearview mirror.

As the vehicles hit cruising speed on the open road away from New Cairo, the oppressive tactical tension inside the cabin finally began to lift.

Lehm kept his eye on the road, but glanced back through the rearview mirror.

“Alright, Princess. We just ran a gauntlet, busted a syndicate block, and structured an entire tactical withdrawal. Are you going to tell us what kind of high-value asset you’ve got under your arm?”

Koko let out a cheerful, musical giggle.

With a theatrical flourish, she held the stuffed toy directly up in front of her face, presenting it to the crew like a prized trophy.

“Tada! Meet our newest corporate acquisition, everyone!”

The entire interior of the SUV went dead silent.

Lutz stared blankly at the mismatched patchwork fabric, the stitched heart, and the button eyes of the innocent-looking teddy bear.

Mao slowly lowered his assault rifle, an incredibly awkward, bewildered expression freezing across his face.

Jonah didn’t even blink, his small face completely flat as he poked the bear’s plush leg with his finger.

“A… plushie?” Lutz sputtered, his voice cracking slightly in sheer disbelief.

“Koko, you’ve got to be kidding me. We just fought an entire underworld skirmish for a piece of nursery cloth?”

“It’s not just any cloth, Lutz! This little guy is incredibly special,” Koko pouted, turning the bear around in her lap.

From the front passenger seat, Valmet turned her body completely around, her single eye softening as she looked at her master’s eccentric behavior.

“If Koko says the bear is valuable, then it is the most magnificent asset in the universe,” Valmet stated fiercely, her fiercely loyal devotion completely unwavering.

She unbuckled her harness, leaning over the center console to get a closer look at the toy.

“Let me see it, Koko. If it pleases you, I will personally sew a custom silk casing for—”

Valmet’s voice suddenly cut off.

Her single eye went completely vacant, her eyelids fluttering rapidly as the vibrant, fierce energy drained from her face in a fraction of a second.

Before anyone could reach out, her towering, muscular frame went entirely limp, collapsing heavily over the middle row console right in front of Koko.

“Valmet?!” Lutz yelled, his hands flying forward to catch her shoulders.

“Hey! Valmet, wake up!” Mao shouted, leaning over from the back row to check her pulse.

The entire crew erupted into a state of absolute shock.

A hardened, elite mercenary who had survived countless black-market battlefields had just dropped like a stone without a single mark on her.
