**LILITH’S POV**

I woke up alone.

The sheets were still warm on his side of the bed, but the space was empty.Full novel: My Unexpected Roommate | A 18+ Tale | FIRST DRAFT FOR FEEDBACK — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Morning light cut through the blinds in thin gold lines across the mattress.

My body ached in that deep, pleasant way that only came after being thoroughly used.

Every muscle reminded me of the night before — the way he’d held me, the way he’d recorded me, the way he’d made me say things I usually only said when I was the one in control.

I sat up slowly, the sheet sliding down my bare chest.

The room still smelled like sex and his skin.

Empty condom wrappers were scattered on the floor like little white flags of surrender.

I stared at them for a long moment, then let out a quiet breath and swung my legs over the side of the bed.

A thin silk robe hung on the chair.

I pulled it on, the cool fabric sliding over still-sensitive skin, and padded out into the quiet apartment.

The kitchen was neat.

Too neat.

He’d cleaned up after himself before leaving.

On the counter sat a covered plate, still faintly warm, and a folded piece of paper with my name written on it in clean, careful handwriting.

I picked up the note first.

*Lilith,*

*Breakfast is on the counter.

Eat it while it’s still decent.

Coffee’s ready too — strong, the way you like it.*

*Last night happened.

We’re not going to pretend it didn’t.

But we also said it was just for the night.

So today we go back to being roommates.

I’ll be home around six.

If you need anything, text me.*

*— Alex*

I read it twice.

No “it was amazing.” No “I can’t stop thinking about you.” No messy leftover heat.

Just practical, decent, thoughtful.

I lifted the cover on the plate.

Scrambled eggs, toast, a few slices of bacon, and a small bowl of cut fruit.

He’d even left a fork and napkin.

The coffee in the pot was still hot.

I sat down at the small table and took a bite.

It was good.

Better than anything I’d ever bothered making for myself on a weekday morning.

The simple act of him cooking for me before work — after everything we’d done — sat strangely in my chest.

I chewed slowly and stared at the note again.

For most of my adult life, sex had been easy.

Fun.

Something I controlled.

I picked the men, I set the pace, I left when I got bored or when they started wanting more than I was willing to give.

None of them had ever cooked me breakfast the next morning and then calmly walked out the door like nothing had shifted.

Alex had.

And the worst part was that he’d meant what he said.

He wasn’t playing a game.

He really would come home at six, greet me like a polite roommate, and try to pretend he hadn’t spent half the previous day buried inside me while I called myself his slut on camera.

I took another bite of eggs and felt a small, unfamiliar twist of something that wasn’t just physical leftover want.

I’d been the experienced one.

The one who’d been “around the block.” The one who’d smirked and teased and pushed until the quiet, strict-family virgin finally snapped and took control.

I’d expected to feel powerful afterward.

Instead I felt… rearranged.

Because he’d given me exactly what I always claimed I wanted — someone who could handle me, someone who could put me in my place — and then he’d still left a carefully prepared breakfast and a note that treated me like a person instead of a conquest.

I set the fork down and pulled the robe tighter around myself.

Somewhere across the city, Alex Summers was probably sitting at a desk in whatever ordinary job he had, still carrying the same calm, decent energy he’d always had… except now there was something new under it.

I’d felt it in the way he held me at the end.

The quiet confidence that hadn’t been there when we first met.

The kind that came from realizing you could take what you wanted and still choose to be careful afterward.

That kind of confidence changed men.

Most of them turned arrogant.

Alex felt like he might just become more himself — only steadier.

The kind of man who could walk into a room and actually approach a woman without the old hesitation, because now he knew what it felt like to be wanted without having to beg for it.

And me?

I stared at the half-eaten breakfast and tried to decide what had actually changed.

My body still hummed with the memory of him.

That wasn’t new.

What was new was the quiet ache that had nothing to do with sore muscles.

The part of me that kept replaying the moment he’d said we were just fools for one night… and the way my chest had tightened when I realized he was serious about protecting the roommate thing.

I’d had plenty of sex.

I hadn’t had many mornings like this.

I finished the food slowly, washed the plate, and left the note on the counter.

Then I walked back to the bedroom, stood in the doorway, and looked at the messy sheets and the scattered wrappers.

Tomorrow we would be roommates again.

Today I was still the girl who’d woken up alone in a bed that smelled like him, eating breakfast he made, wondering why the usual post-fling emptiness felt different this time.

I picked up my phone, opened a new message to him, typed three different versions of “thanks for breakfast,” and deleted all of them.

In the end I just sent:

**Got the food.

Thanks.**

No emoji.

No extra words.

I set the phone down and went to take a shower, the silk robe slipping off my shoulders as I walked.

Hot water ran over the faint marks his hands had left on my hips and thighs.

I closed my eyes and let myself feel them for a few more minutes before I washed everything away.

When I stepped out, the apartment was still quiet.

I made a second cup of coffee and stood at the window, watching the ordinary Monday morning move on without us.

Somewhere in the city, Alex was becoming a slightly different version of himself — more confident, still decent, quietly changed in ways he probably hadn’t even noticed yet.

And here, in the kitchen that still smelled faintly of the breakfast he’d left me, I was starting to realize that the girl who used to treat sex like a game might not be able to play it the same way anymore.

Not after him.

I didn’t know what that meant for the nights ahead.

I only knew that when six o’clock came and he walked through the door again, both of us would try very hard to act like nothing had shifted.

And both of us would know it had.
