Gu Chen quickly got out of the lake and put his clothes on, not waiting for his body to dry first. After which he rushed back to the courtyard.
Getting there, he saw that Feng Shuran was already waiting for him outside the house. She had cleaned up and wore a neat white robe while holding her hair with a red hairpin; she looked elegant.
"Master," Feng Shuran called out respectfully upon seeing Gu Chen. She bowed towards him and then looked towards the vortex in the sky, waiting for instructions.
She was hesitant about going to take a look and claim the magical treasure that had appeared. Her Master was an immortal after all and might have more powerful treasures with him; he might not think much of this one.
Gu Chen nodded at her with a serious face and then looked at the vortex. They definitely couldn’t let anyone else get this magical treasure!
He thought for a moment and summoned the system before opening the inventory; his eyes landed on the three mission cards inside.
Gu Chen used one of the cards with a thought, and the content on the system page changed.
....
(Please state the mission for the Villainess!)
...
Gu Chen blinked, not knowing how he should state the mission. Was he supposed to talk to the system or to Feng Shuran?
He decided to try stating it to the system first, but nothing happened after he finished telling the system the mission.
’That’s not it, then.’
After realising this, he turned to Feng Shuran.
"Bring the treasure to me," he said casually.
Feng Shuran’s eyes lit up.
"Understood, Master!" She replied happily and rushed into the distance using her movement technique, disappearing from view almost instantly.
At the same time.
.....
(Ding! The host has issued a mission!
A natural magical treasure of unknown grade has appeared; Villainess Feng Shuran has been sent to get it.
Mission grade: Silver rank.
Reward: 2000MP.
Confirm mission: Yes/No)
...
Gu Chen was stunned by the amount of MP he would get after Feng Shuran completed the mission; he didn’t even get that much when he saved her yesterday!
"Looks like giving out missions is the best way to get MP," Gu Chen mumbled while confirming the mission as he walked into the courtyard. He wasn’t worried about Feng Shuran running into trouble, as she was currently the strongest cultivator in the whole of Oghara, or at least she was amongst the strongest.
Many cultivators had the habit of hiding for hundreds of years in seclusion, and the world didn’t know them. Who could tell that there wasn’t already an old ancestor at the Nascent Soul Realm who was in seclusion? The appearance of the natural magical treasure would definitely force them to come out.
Thinking of this, Gu Chen felt it was best to be safe. He used the Direct Message skill of the system to send Feng Shuran a message at the cost of 1MP, ordering her to come back.
A few seconds later, Feng Shuran appeared in the air, at the sole mountain peak and landed in front of Gu Chen.
"Master?" She said while approaching him.
Gu Chen didn’t say anything and threw something at her instead. Feng Shuran easily caught it and stared at it. It was one of the Nascent Soul Realm defence spell cards from the system, but it looked like a formation plate in the real world.
"Use it if you run into any trouble," he said calmly. While he was confident in Feng Shuran, he didn’t want to take risks. She hadn’t learnt any Nascent Soul Realm skills yet after all.
He couldn’t afford anything happening to her and failing his mission!
Naturally, Feng Shuran didn’t know about the MP or Gu Chen’s thoughts. She stared at the formation plate; it looked strange and unfamiliar, probably because it was a powerful one that she had never seen before.
Feng Shuran felt touched; even though her Master knew she was most likely the strongest, he was still looking out for her.
"Thank you, Master." She said with a deep smile.
"Now go before others claim it," Gu Chen waved.
"So what if they do? They can only give it to me afterwards," Feng Shuran giggled, but she disappeared right after.
Gu Chen naturally understood her words; he sighed and entered the courtyard.
There was nothing else he could do now other than wait for good news from the system.
....
The vortex in the sky had completely formed, covering thousands of kilometres. That part of the sky was pitch black and lightning raged within.
All over Oghara, the various forces were assembling groups of disciples and preparing to set out. They couldn’t let others get their hands on this treasure.
The balance of power in Oghara would change because of this treasure; they had to be the winners in the end!
...
Using the Ten Thousand Miles Steps, Feng Shuran crossed kilometres in seconds as she rushed towards the heart of the vortex.
She kept the formation plate that her master had given her inside her storage treasure and hid her silver threads in her sleeves. A cold look hugged her face as she moved; she hadn’t seen anyone along the way.
Feng Shuran had long entered the range of the black sky, and lightning would drop down occasionally, but they were weak, and she easily dodged them.
She flew above forests, plains, and mountains, finally arriving above a vast river that was hundreds of kilometres wide.
This was the heart of the vortex, as its pressure was the strongest here. Feng Shuran could also feel the presence of the treasure at the bottom of the river.
She didn’t make a move immediately and stood in the air with an icy aura around her.
The surface of the river was already boiling, meaning that the treasure would appear soon and face its tribulation. Only after that can one claim it.
Time passed quickly; almost an hour later. The surface of the river was now in chaos, and a bright glow could be seen rising slowly from beneath.
The wind in the area became chaotic, and the vortex rumbled furiously.
While waiting, Feng Shuran suddenly looked to the side. In the distance, several figures were rushing over on their flying swords.
Feng Shuran’s eyes narrowed, and she moved to block them.
The figure came to a stop. It was a group of yellow-robed cultivators; there were over fifty of them. Two Core Formation Realm cultivators were leading in front, and the ones behind them were all Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators.
"Invisible killer? How are you here?" One of the Core Formation Realm cultivators exclaimed in shock; he was an old man with a big hourglass on his back.
It wasn’t surprising that he recognised Feng Shuran. All the top powerhouses in Oghara were familiar with one another.
It was also not a secret that the leader of the assassin temple, the invisible killer, had killed the sect master of the Dae Qu sect and was currently being hunted down.
How did she have the confidence to come out when she was still being chased? Could she be looking for allies?
"We understand that you’re in trouble. Join us in claiming this treasure, and we’ll protect you from the Dae Qu sect." The second Core Formation Realm cultivator said as he flew forward slowly. He carried a black scabbard on his waist without a sword inside.
