Li Shan looked at him for a few seconds then at the ground near his feet and chuckled.
...
"Spread the word. He’s under us."
He had expected to get a good pawn but this turned out to be even better.
He could see the key he needed to maintain his grip over the jail, total control.
’Most of them already know..’ Ren only nodded as he thought to himself.
He had bigger concerns at the moment. He was wondering if he would lose the second in command position.
"Give him the weapon." The boss Li Shan threw a small blade at Ren. The weapon, though small, was compatible with Beast Qi and could be used in battles.
It was difficult to source weapons in the jail but not impossible. Captives like them were pragmatic and knew that hierarchy existed everywhere.
And to maintain that, they had methods like the unauthorised blade he handed to Ren.
’Barely a week and he gets a weapon?’ Ren looked at the blade with greed and envy.
He wanted the blade. Of course, he did. With it, he could critically injure an opponent with equal strength with ease.
He nodded respectfully at the boss Li Shan before leaving. He wanted the blade but did not dare covet it.
It stung him that his years of loyalty could not get him a weapon but a boy’s combat strength did.
...
"A good blade." Ye Yaming did not have any experience with weapons but he liked the blade nonetheless .
He channeled his Beast Qi into the blade and it withstood the Ravenous energy.
A brief smile appeared on his lips before he put the blade to the side.
He was having trouble with the Demonic technique. The progress was slow and the increment in Beast Qi from the last extraction had made it even harder to quickly push through the technique mastery.
"No tattoos, nothing. The physical traits aren’t getting any more obvious either." The Demonic technique was effective but the Beast Soul tattoo on his body did not change.
Also, he was not changing physically, appearance-wise.
"If this technique blends my own soul with the Beast Soul then would this harmony be an evolution or just a more powerful Beast Soul?"
He glanced at his chest, the black tattoo of a Snakey-Raven extended from his left to the belly.
He was curious if the Beast Soul could evolve into something else.
"What about the people who practice this and really acquire beast-like physical traits? Does their own soul get overwhelmed by the Beast Soul?"
With how sentient his Beast Soul appeared, it would be fair to assume that they could overwhelm the individual.
"I wonder how they practice this Demonic technique with average talent."
He was already having trouble with his speed. He wanted to quickly master the Demonic technique but it was beginning to overwhelm him.
The circulation of the Beast Qi had begun to get out of his control.
"No wonder they lose control and get their personalities altered."
By this time, he was confident that his Beast Soul grew stronger after each extraction.
The chances that he might lose control was beginning to increase even though his talent also kept increasing.
"Should I resume the Body cultivation technique?"
The cultivation technique was a good counter for Beast Qi. It was better to train in that rather than risking the Demonic technique.
"But that would consume Pure Qi, breaking the balance between the two Qi even further."
He contemplated, crossing off yet another option.
"Meditating until I increase my Beast mastery even further is the obvious answer. There are no shortcuts."
He summoned the Beast Qi on both his palms, the devilish black Qi moved like burning fire on his palm, eager to devour.
Sighing, he decided that he would solely focus on pushing his body to its limits to raise his talent once again.
With two new extractions, he was sure that he would get good results, better than the last time.
Only two days had passed since the fight. He had time to play around because Ren had not only brought him the precious blade but also a few months worth of ration.
....
A month passed,

"Nearly 50 times..."
Ye Yaming’s boost to his talents this time had made his aptitude 50 times better than that of average people.
His mastery with Beast Soul also increased but he still couldn’t summon his Beast Soul and control it like a normal Stage 2 could. He was still a semi Stage 2.
However, the mastery was not useless. Only his control over the Beast Soul did not seem to improve, the control over his Beast Qi, however, was a tremendous boost.
He also managed to push the Demonic technique at 70% mastery, strengthening his body even further.
He believed he could push the Demonic technique even further but his intuition told him not to do it. So, he stopped.
...
He walked out of his residence slowly. There were no people around.
Ren was the last visitor.
"I feel like a zombie." The bright light outside seemed to hurt his eyes. He put his hand over forehead to shield his eyes.
"This brings back some memories."
The last time he was shielding his eyes was when he first discovered his Beast’s Soul ability to devour another Beast Soul.
A few of his clansmen died to him after that incident.
And this time, it was the jail. Now that he was stronger than ever, he only expected to increase the body count in this enclosed place.
"You look like you haven’t seen the sun for decades." He had decided to visit Lu Wang, the demonic faction guy who had taught him the technique first after exiting his seclusion.
But the man seemed to be more interested in badmouthing a seven year old on his appearance.
Of course, he did look like someone who hadn’t seen the sun, appearance-wise. The old man wasn’t wrong to make a comment on that but they were in jail. What did he expect?
