Even Aunt Li is worth fighting!

After leaving the cemetery, Xu Yan drove straight out of the Gu residence.

Qin Mingzhu only realized something was off when she saw the trees passing by.Full novel: My wife is so beautiful, and my CEO husband is so charming. — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She leaned against the window, watching the scenery and asked curiously, “Aren’t we staying the night?”

Gu Jingchen glanced at her sharply. “Haven’t you had enough fun?”

“I’m not playing,” Qin Mingzhu hurriedly sat up straight, determined to clear her name. “I’m staying for dinner today, not to cause trouble.”

Gu Jingchen raised a brow and tilted his chin. “Oh? And what’s the reason?”

“Although they were really overbearing, I’m not the type to hurt myself more than my enemy,” Qin Mingzhu blinked innocently. “I just think it’s rare for you to come back to the Gu estate. If we don’t even have a proper meal, Grandmother will definitely be unhappy.”

“Do you really think she’ll be happy with the things you said?” Gu Jingchen asked, slightly surprised, studying her from head to toe.

“Well, they were all bullying me!” Qin Mingzhu lowered her eyes, clearly displeased.

She wasn’t the type to just endure abuse; they’d stepped on her face, so of course she would fight back.

Sometimes, arguments flare up in an instant.

“I’ll try to endure it next time,” Qin Mingzhu said, exasperated.

Gu Jingchen scrutinized her expression, then after a few seconds, said lightly, “As long as it’s not just playing around.”

“Huh?”

Qin Mingzhu was confused for a moment before suddenly realizing.

“You don’t think I deliberately stirred up trouble, do you?!”

Who’s a good person who enjoys doing that especially in a big occasion like today?!

Qin Mingzhu muttered while pounding his chest lightly, “You’ve got the wrong idea about me.”

Gu Jingchen easily caught her fist and lifted a brow. “Next time this happens, just come with me. Got it?”

Qin Mingzhu nodded but felt deeply dissatisfied.

Why should they leave? Lin Zhi is clearly the one who should go. And yet it ended up making it seem like she was the extra one.

She wanted to ask Gu Jingchen why everyone in the Gu family favored Lin Zhi, yet he chose to marry her.

But when she looked at his brows, faintly tinged with frost, her question retreated timidly back into her heart.

She was afraid she couldn’t bear the answer.

The Cayenne drove steadily, and Qin Mingzhu dozed off. When she woke, they had arrived.

The villa was their new home. Ironically, both of them weren’t even there on their wedding night an anecdote that would make for a funny story later.

Qin Mingzhu thought of Aunt Li and couldn’t help smirking to herself.

Aunt Li must have assumed they wouldn’t come back today, and now she would gleefully expose the mischief Aunt Li had been up to alone in the villa, tossing sunflower seed shells everywhere!

Beep beep beep…

Fingerprint recognition succeeded. The heavy front doors swung open. Qin Mingzhu grabbed the handle and pulled hard

“Oh, Jingchen you’re finally back!”

Aunt Li beamed and rushed straight toward Gu Jingchen, taking his briefcase in one hand and handing him slippers in the other.

She even skillfully helped him remove his coat.

The whole process was seamless, leaving Qin Mingzhu dumbfounded.

She whispered, “Gu Jingchen! Did you tell her you were coming back?”

Gu Jingchen turned to her with a puzzled look. “No.”

Then how did that old woman know you were coming back?

Qin Mingzhu clenched her fists. Aunt Li was terrifying!

“You must be starving after a long day. I’ve made a whole table of dishes you like,” Aunt Li said with a kind smile but from Qin Mingzhu’s angle, all she could see were the whites of her eyes.

As the saying goes, “Old ginger is spicier.”

From the entrance to the living room was barely a dozen steps, yet Qin Mingzhu had already been pushed to the outskirts, seeing only Aunt Li’s large backside.

She ground her teeth and tried to squeeze back. “Aunt Li, what dishes did you make?”

“Hehe, you’ll see soon enough.”

Aunt Li subtly nudged Qin Mingzhu with her rear, and Qin Mingzhu nearly lost her balance.

In her mind, she muttered a curse what a petty big-bottomed woman!

Aunt Li glanced at her with pride, then half-pushed Gu Jingchen toward the dining table. “You didn’t have any stomach issues today, right?”

Gu Jingchen finally sensed the awkward atmosphere.

He stopped, withdrew his arm, and said calmly, “No. What’s wrong?”

Aunt Li had been waiting for that line. She clapped her hands dramatically. “You don’t know!

Last night, Xiaoyan told me you wouldn’t be back, so I froze the chicken. I tried my best to tell her, but your wife insisted on using frozen chicken to make soup for you.”

Qin Mingzhu’s eyes widened.

Aunt Li kept going: “I said I’d do it, but she refused! I know you young people like those ‘romantic dinner’ things, but you can’t just give leftovers!”

What should have been a simple chicken soup had been twisted into a story about leftovers Qin Mingzhu wanted to applaud Aunt Li’s storytelling skills.

A talent like this shouldn’t have ended up as a housekeeper! She should be on stage!

Qin Mingzhu took a deep breath, reminding herself that when dealing with elders, one must first show respect before being assertive.

She smiled. “Aunt Li, Jingchen didn’t have stomach issues today.”

“Don’t speak too soon. The day isn’t over yet,” Aunt Li argued, unconvinced.

“Well, the chicken was only in the freezer a few hours not really frozen. It should be fine.”

“You little girl, what do you know!” Aunt Li said anxiously. “Back when Xiao Zhi was here, I never had to worry about any of this.”

Finally, she admitted her true intention.

“Alright, I won’t say more. Let’s eat,” Aunt Li said, easing up. She eagerly helped Gu Jingchen sit down and loaded his bowl with all the best dishes, as if afraid Qin Mingzhu would get any.

Having served the Gu family for years, she knew Gu Jingchen’s temperament well she always stopped her actions before he could intervene.

The meal left Qin Mingzhu utterly exhausted.

After dinner, she sulked into the third-floor game room, clutching a controller.

Her phone lit up it was Qin Hai calling.

Lazily, she maneuvered the character on the big screen, letting the phone ring and hang up three times before finally answering.

“Why are you just answering now?!”

Qin Mingzhu scratched her ear and replied perfunctorily, “Dad, what’s the matter?”

Qin Hai was so angry he choked on his words. “What’s with your attitude? Do you really think you’re the supreme Mrs. Gu?”

“I didn’t say that,” Qin Mingzhu pouted.

The call was basically just Qin Hai checking on her relationship with Gu Jingchen. She briefly recounted the day’s events.

“Dad, I feel like this marriage won’t last,” she sincerely advised. “The whole Gu family likes that Lin Zhi. I think Gu Jingchen will end up marrying her. I don’t stand a chance.”

“As long as he hasn’t divorced you, it’s not a failure,” Qin Hai warned sternly. “Don’t try any tricks. If you actually divorce Gu Jingchen, you might as well marry Director Wang.”
