The Rival Appears
“Miss Lin is Mr. Gu’s reverse scale you absolutely must not touch it.”
She couldn’t say anything more by way of explanation.
For the rest of the drive, Qin Mingzhu absentmindedly stared out the window at the trees flashing past.
Untouchable reverse scale… tch.
She pursed her lips in annoyance.
Forget it whoever was in Gu Jingchen’s heart had nothing to do with her anyway.
As long as she had food, clothing, and security, and got every bit of what she deserved, that was enough.
No one more thing. If that scumbag dared to cheat on her, she’d make sure he and his mistress went down together!
The wedding date was set for next Friday.
With only a week left, Qin Mingzhu, at Qin Hai’s urging, had tried contacting Gu Jingchen several times but her messages either sank without a trace or got perfunctory replies.
According to insider information, Lin Zhi had been in a car accident the day she returned.
Gu Jingchen had been staying by her side these past few days.
Qin Hai was so anxious he’d developed mouth sores. When Qin Mingzhu heard about it, she was so pleased that even the rare gloom in her heart dissipated.
Since Qin Hai was the one worrying about this, she decided she wouldn’t.
Calm and carefree, Qin Mingzhu picked an afternoon to call her best friend. “Ping’er, do you have time to get our hair done with me?”
An Ping refused mercilessly. “No time.”
“Aww aren’t you going to help me pick a hairstyle so I can stun everyone at the wedding?” Qin Mingzhu coaxed sweetly, already covering one ear in anticipation.
Sure enough, An Ping’s voice exploded from the other end: “QIN MINGZHU! You’re getting married?! To who? When? Something this big and you’re only telling me now?!”
Qin Mingzhu chuckled awkwardly. “Well, when love comes, you can’t stop it, right? We met on a blind date.”
An Ping’s tone immediately turned cold. “Was it arranged by that bastard Qin Hai? Qin Mingzhu, don’t tell me you’re marrying some fifty-year-old man.”
“How could that be!” Qin Mingzhu hurried to explain. “It’s Gu Jingchen you know, the one always in financial news. Everything’s rushed I only got the marriage certificate a couple days ago. If nothing goes wrong, the wedding will be next Friday. You have to come be my bridesmaid!”
“Mingzhu, tell me honestly are there any traps in this?” An Ping asked seriously.
Of course she knew who Gu Jingchen was. Precisely because she knew, she didn’t believe it.
A prize like that should have been shoved into Qin Xuanjiao’s hands by Qin Hai.
“Ping’er, don’t overthink it,” Qin Mingzhu lied, though her nose stung slightly. “Gu Jingchen isn’t someone Qin Hai can control. He told Qin Hai himself that he took a liking to me.”
“From just that one blind date?” An Ping was full of doubt.
“Of course! Now do you believe in my charm?” Qin Mingzhu laughed, changing the subject. “Anyway, meet me at Oushi Salon at three. I booked a stylist pick a look for yourself too.”
An Ping was always punctual. When Qin Mingzhu arrived, she was immediately caught in a tight hug from behind.
“Cough, cough ” An Ping choked, tears in her eyes. “Are you trying to kill me?”
“You’ve gotten thinner again,” Qin Mingzhu said worriedly, holding her shoulders. “Your supervisor is inhuman, giving you so many experiments every day.”
“It’s fine, I can handle it,” An Ping adjusted her glasses.
The two walked side by side into the reserved room. The stylist was an acquaintance, and Qin Mingzhu easily picked a hairstyle she liked.
“Big waves?” An Ping rested her chin on the sofa. “I thought you’d go for a virtuous, gentle-wife look.”
“No, no” Qin Mingzhu wagged a finger mysteriously. “After marrying into a wealthy family, if you try to be kind, you’ll just become a lamb eaten by wolves. I want to be the wolf.”
“Alright… I don’t really get it.”
But An Ping soon would.
Click, click, click.
A pair of ten-centimeter high heels came into view. Qin Mingzhu lifted her gaze slightly and narrowed her eyes at the newcomer
The woman had chestnut-colored, softly curled hair cascading over her shoulders. A pink strapless dress outlined her alluring figure, the hem just covering her thighs, revealing long, slender, fair legs.
Heh. What a grand entrance.
Qin Mingzhu lazily lifted her eyelids, acting as if she hadn’t noticed. “Andy, two orange sodas.”
“Miss Qin, thank you for your kindness, but I don’t drink high-sugar beverages,” Lin Zhi said with a slight smile, unable to hide the pride in her eyes.
Qin Mingzhu looked puzzled and handed the other drink to An Ping. “No one asked you.”
Lin Zhi’s smile stiffened.
She quickly composed herself and actually sat down right beside Qin Mingzhu.
“I suppose I don’t need to introduce myself,” Lin Zhi said, brushing her hair back and sighing softly. “To be honest, I’ve seen countless women like you back in university nothing but a pretty face, empty inside. You don’t really think Jingchen is interested in you, do you?”
“Isn’t he interested in me?” Qin Mingzhu widened her eyes in mock surprise.
Lin Zhi’s smile turned cold. “Miss Qin, there’s no need to play dumb in front of me. I’ll be clear these past few days, Jingchen has been with me.”
“Oh, I know that,” Qin Mingzhu nodded, the corners of her lips lifting. “You were in a car accident, after all.”
Seeing the undisguised schadenfreude in Qin Mingzhu’s eyes, Lin Zhi nearly rolled her eyes in anger.
She forced a smile through gritted teeth. “Don’t you understand? I was only lightly hit by a car it wasn’t serious. Jingchen just couldn’t let go of me, that’s why ”
“Enough already. Are you really that proud of seducing someone else’s husband?”
