Chapter 25: Iron Ape {2}

Mythos: The Undefeated One

Luke set a forlorn gaze at the codex through the narrow fissure at the bottom of his head’s carapace. Although it didn’t show, as in his stone beetle form Luke couldn’t express what he was feeling.

Luke stared at the accessory section then proceeded to equip his wooden armor, he had expected nothing to happen, however to his surprise, his body was immediately clad in wood, that adjusted to his beetle frame as if it had always been made that way.

’This is interesting.’ Luke muttered, excited that he could use the accessory feature of the codex even though he took the form of a void creature.

His whole body was now clad in wood, except for his joints and the narrow fissure. Luke dismissed the codex and then glanced around the cave, it was still slightly dark, the moon could be seen through the hole that illuminated the cave along with the wall inbuilt ore.

As Luke’s gaze rested on the various Stone beetles that laid on the water around him he urge to massacre all of them crossed his mind, however Luke knew he had barely killed seven once, so what was the possibility that he would kill hundreds currently, while being in their own domain...

He clasped his mandibles trying to form a visible idea on how to kill all of the stone beetles without getting killed himself. Luke glanced at the water crashing down, a sculpted, multi-tiered waterfall into the pool below. The roar of the water echoed through the entire chamber, mixing with the gentle drip of condensation.

Below the pool was sand, which the water immediately drained into, continuing the cycle. From what luke knew on void creatures, they had their class ranking along with an hierarchy. A spawn beast through a specific evolutionary process could become an awakened beast and become stronger or completely transform in its biology, the same could be said of their hierarchy, however that changes their type, completely.

Their hierarchy ranged from

Beast, Monster, Tyrant, Titan and then Evolver.

For example, a spawn beast could become a spawn monster, through an evolutionary process, specific to the type of void creature it is. Luke eyes narrowed as he now perceived the water flowing down from the hole in tiered synchronization differently.

’I have to get rid of the water.’

[Ding!]

A soft chime echoed in Luke’s stone beetles ears, he was lucky he had one, which was then supplemented with Ella’s Voice.

[Congratulations to 10000 players around Mythos has successfully reached level five, with this update, the leader board has now been activated for the new batch of hunters, proof yourself worthy and push for the top!]

Luke’s red and glinting eyes which had already been passively glowing shone in anticipation, usually he wouldn’t have cared, but currently he wasn’t just any ordinary player who hadn’t passed his trial, he was Chris, the shape shifter and not only that, he was also The Undefeated One.

He quickly summoned the system and then scrolled down to the new section that had a slightly dull grey glint different from the natural color of the interface. He focused on it, and immediately appearing in his vision was the leader board rankings ranging from One to Ten thousand.

Luke’s felt shocked as the first name on the leader board appeared in his vision, it was the Undefeated One, naturally Luke knew that he had gotten ten levels earlier, surpassing all players by a wide gap, however that had been two days ago.

He had expected he’d be long over taken since he had only been leveling up the shape shifter class, Luke knew what it was like to be at the top, he knew the sorts of privileges he would gain that no ordinary player would. His heart thumped loudly, his mandibles clasped, he then spoke..

"Looks like I’ll just have to level up."

However that came out in a subtle and meaningless screech, Luke glanced around hoping he had not caused a disturbance among the stone beetles. He glanced back towards the water flowing into the pool.

’Time to level up.’ Luke thought within as he called the codex and stilled himself for a transformation.

***

The Cave of the stone beetle colony had always been misty and silent in a way, except for the rushing of water, but currently that was totally different as there was no water rushing at all and the mist was thicker than usual as if anchoring the presence of a superior being.

Luke or more accurately the Undefeated One stared at the massacre of Stone Beetles below, holding unto an accessory he had lodged into the wall, since the beginning, the battle had been rough but since they got noticeably weaker it was easier for Luke.

It had been Five Days already, each day he had killed more than a dozen Stone Beetles with the stealth the mist had given him.

With its amplification, seeing in the already misty cave was harder and not to talk of the stone beetles that could barely see with the red glint in their eyes. And apart from that, the absence of water made their boulder backs crack slowly, resulting in easier kills for Luke.

Just feel minutes ago, he had pushed the Undefeated One’s Class to Level 15 and decided to end the whole Stone beetle colony single handedly with his shape shifter class since they were extremely weakened. He had gotten six extra levels and had reached level Eight.

Currently the hole were the water had been pouring had been blocked by rocks in which Luke had carved out from the cave’s wall. He had gotten two more Accessories, one in his Undefeated One’s Class and the next in his shape shifter class.

Luke gazed upwards, the moon shone into the cave.."The Iron Ape should be here any minute."

It came every night.
