Minato Namikaze nodded to himself.

Back then, Konoha White Fang, Sakumo Hatake, had been even more renowned than the Sannin!

Minato often wondered: if Sakumo Hatake had also run for the position of future Hokage…

would he still have had a chance?

Though his own fame had been forged during this Great Ninja War, he still fell a little short of the older generation in accumulated experience and foundation.

How unfortunate that the answer would never be revealed.

Because Sakumo Hatake had chosen to kill himself at home.

How tragic.

He had escaped death countless times and slain countless enemies.

Yet in the end, he had not died on the battlefield or during a mission, but at home, in the village he loved most.

“Ka—”

“Lord Minato, there are four enemies concealed to the south. They should be Iwagakure shinobi.”

Qingyuan spoke up, cutting off Minato Namikaze just as he uttered the first syllable.

“Did you sense all the enemies?”

Minato Namikaze’s gaze showed astonishment.

Could there be another expert?

Not only had he detected the enemies’ presence, he even knew their exact number.

“Enemies?”

Obito heard this and hurriedly pulled down his yellow goggles, lest his eyes be injured.

“There are enemies here too?”

Beside Qingyuan, Kurenai Yuhi drew a kunai, her small face alert.

“There are, there are, and quite a few.”

Qingyuan said.

Iwagakure shinobi could be called the ultimate numbers-based faction.

No special technique was needed—just overwhelm the enemy with numbers.

The archetypal example was the battle where they sent ten thousand shinobi to fight the Third Raikage.

Qingyuan couldn’t even imagine what that scene looked like.

A valley packed wall to wall with people, all of them shinobi, running together through the mountains in pursuit of the Third Raikage—could they even fit?

“There are enemies here.”

Kakashi nodded, lending some confirmation to Qingyuan’s words. Enjoying the story? Read on at novelping.com.

As they spoke, they deliberately lowered their voices and turned their backs on the Iwagakure shinobi, so they wouldn’t overhear them—or glean information by reading their lips.

“It seems Qingyuan and Kakashi were the only ones to detect them first; the rest were a little slower.”

Minato Namikaze nodded.

As luck would have it, Kakashi’s squad and Qingyuan’s squad each had a reconnaissance shinobi, so both squads were covered.

“I won’t be traveling alongside you for much longer on the road ahead, so from now on, deal with your own problems.”

Minato meant to use this opportunity to train the two squads.

With him here, even if something went wrong, the Flying Thunder God Technique would let him stop it immediately.

“Yes.”

Kakashi answered in a low voice.

He tried to approach that area without revealing himself, but the instant he moved, shuriken shot from the distant bushes with a series of swishes.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

Kakashi swiftly drew his short blade and cut three shuriken out of the air.

“The enemy has spotted us!”

Kakashi regretted not seizing the opportunity.

Apparently, they would have to fight head-on.

“Heh-heh, my turn!”

Obito rapidly formed hand seals with both hands and bellowed:

“Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique!”

Boom…

Obito spat out a small fireball.

“Cough, cough…”

In his nervousness, he had botched the ninjutsu.

“The Konoha shinobi have discovered us. We can only fight for our lives!”

The middle-aged Iwagakure shinobi’s brow furrowed.

He had recognized that Minato Namikaze was leading the group.

He had originally planned to remain hidden until Minato left, then see whether he could ambush a straggler.

But when he noticed those few people whispering among themselves, his thirty-odd years of seasoned experience immediately told him they had been discovered.

So the middle-aged Iwagakure shinobi had planned to catch the enemy off guard first, but unexpectedly, he hadn’t managed to ambush a single one.

“Captain!”

Another, younger Iwagakure shinobi flung out two more shuriken.

Just as Kakashi was about to repeat the maneuver and knock all the shuriken down with his short blade, Qingyuan moved. Read this novel at g.com for the best experience.

Qingyuan quickly formed three hand seals—Dog, Horse, and Rooster—taking roughly a second and a half.

Then Qingyuan swiftly pulled two shuriken with a metallic sheen from his ninja tool pouch and infused them with all the Wind Release chakra in his hands.

Swish, swish!

With wind trailing behind them, the shuriken flew faster than ordinary shuriken and were far sharper.

The portion of Renegade Qingyuan’s talent merged into him had greatly strengthened Qingyuan’s control over Wind Release chakra.

It allowed him to perform a maneuver he could never have managed in the past!

Bang!

Bang!

Qingyuan hurled the wind-wreathed shuriken, easily knocking the young Iwagakure shinobi’s shuriken away.

Immediately afterward, the two shuriken erupted in flame and exploded with a boom.

The resulting blast sent leaves flying backward and made the grass sway.

At such close range, the young Iwagakure shinobi was blown to a bloody pulp, and the smell of smoke wafted from him.

“What happened?”

Shiranui Genma hadn’t been able to see clearly what had happened.

Kakashi was puzzled too, but he understood the next instant.

Explosive tags!

The enemy had attached explosive tags to the handles.

If he had knocked them away with his short blade, they would have exploded directly in front of him!

At that realization, Kakashi couldn’t help but glance at Qingyuan.

Without Qingyuan, he would definitely have suffered a serious loss just now.

“Thank you, future me,” Qingyuan thought.

Actually, he hadn’t noticed it either.

It was just that Renegade Qingyuan was floating beside him, visible only to him.

Renegade Qingyuan had pointed out that detail, allowing Qingyuan to act.

“Well done.”

Minato Namikaze nodded slightly.

He had nearly stepped in himself; fortunately, Qingyuan had reacted faster.

The shinobi world is one where hand speed matters.

The faster your hands, the faster you can perform ninjutsu.

“Daiguang!”

The middle-aged Iwagakure shinobi shouted the name of the younger Iwagakure shinobi who had just been blown up.

Unfortunately, the shinobi named Daiguang had even had his brains blasted out—he was dead as dead could be.
