-Author notes-

Chapter 11: Tournament Eve

Sho rose before dawn, his body screaming in protest, just like how he did every day.

Every joint ached.

Every muscle burned.

His legs felt like lead, his arms like dead weight.

Thirty days of relentless training had taken their toll on him, both mentally and physically.

But today was special because today…was the last day.

He slipped out of the compound, his feet finding the familiar path through the forest.

His father had revealed that the clan was very much aware of his escapades but never made any mention for him to stop, so he continued to do the same.

Because even if the clan members knew he was leaving to train outside the compound, it did not change the fact that he felt more comfortable away from all those all-seeing eyes.

Today, he found the clearing empty.

Lee had been called away for a mission five days ago, and Naruto had grown bored of the repetitive training after the first week, preferring to train in his own way while only paying the occasional visit when he wanted to hang out.

So Sho was alone.

‘Just like in the beginning…’ He thought while reflecting on the past month.

He wasn’t the same person who had stumbled into this clearing a short time ago.

That boy had been weak, sickly, filled with doubt.

This version of Sho was different.

Stronger, and more determined.

He could never have imagined that a person could change so much in just a month, but here he was.

“Let’s do this…” After finishing his stretches, he began his routine.

100 push-ups.

His arms trembled with each repetition, but he pushed through.

Thirty days of this exercise had built muscles he hadn’t known existed.

His chest burned, his shoulders screamed, but he kept going.

100 sit-ups.

His core muscles clenched and released; each repetition felt like a small victory.

He’d started this journey unable to do ten.

Now he could do a hundred without collapsing.

100 squats.

His legs were the strongest they’d ever been.

The running had seen to that.

Each squat was deep, controlled, and powerful.

10 miles.

The run was the hardest part.

Always was.

He pushed through the forest, his lungs burning, his legs pumping.

The sun began to rise over the treeline, painting the sky in shades of gold and pink.

‘Almost there.

Almost done.

Keep going.’

He stopped at the finish line, gasping for breath.

His body was a symphony of pain, every muscle screaming in protest.

But he’d done it.

Thirty days.

100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, 10 miles.

Every single day.

[Quest Complete: The Road of the Strong]

Objective: 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and run 10 miles every day for 30 days.

Sho felt the wave of warmth spread through his body…it was the familiar sensation of healing.

The ache in his muscles faded.

The burning in his lungs subsided.

And something else…

something he’d carried his entire life…

It was gone.

‘The chronic fatigue.

It’s gone.’

He lay on the grass, staring up at the sky, and for the first time in his life, he felt…

light.

Like a weight he hadn’t even known he was carrying had been lifted from his shoulders.

He took a breath.

Deep, easy, without effort.

‘Is this what normal people feel like?

Is this what it’s like to not be tired all the time?’

He sat up slowly, testing his body.

There were weaknesses.

No pain.

Just the pleasant tiredness of a good workout.

He felt like laughing.

A genuine, full laugh that echoed through the clearing.

“I did it.

I actually did it!”

Sho studied the numbers, his smile widening.

His “Endurance was at Level 8 due to how much he had been pushing himself.

His Gentle Fist: Novice had reached Level 8 thanks to the guidance of his sister and his hard work.

And his Shuriken Throw was at Level 6 from academy work.

He’d made incredible progress.

But he wasn’t done yet.

‘I have three stat points now.

Where should I put them?’

He thought about the tournament.

The Gentle Fist required speed and precision.

Agility and Strength would serve him best.

“Let’s focus on that for now.

One point to Strength,” he murmured.

“Two to Agility.”

[Stat Point Allocation]

Strength: 5 → 6

Agility: 4 → 6

Sho smiled.

‘Strength and Agility are at 6.

That should help with the Gentle Fist.’

He knew that 6 points was nothing to brag about and it was likely the average level for a boy of his age.

However, if he wanted to be a great ninja, he would need to be far above the average.

It was impossible to know for sure, but the boys at the ninja academy should already be several times stronger than this.

As for those geniuses like Lee, Neji or Sasuke…

Sho shook his head.

‘Stop it…dont compare yourself with them.

There is no point in doing that now.’

Not even two months ago, he was dying of fever in his bed, and now he was doing hundreds of push-ups and running all around the forest every day.

The improvement was already massive, and if he continues with this trend, he will eventually catch up to those geniuses.

“No…forget about catching up.

Im going to surpass them all.”

He rose to his feet and felt the difference immediately.

His movements were easier, more fluid.

His body responded to his commands without the familiar sluggishness that had plagued him his entire life.

‘The chronic fatigue is gone.

I can finally train without limits.’

He looked up at the sky, the sun fully risen now.

The tournament was tomorrow.

‘I’m ready.’

<><>

The next two days were a blur of training.

Sho focused primarily on his Gentle Fist, drilling the basic forms until they became second nature.

Hinata had taught him well, and he’d practiced endlessly in the clearing.

[Skill Update]

Gentle Fist: Novice (Level 8) → Novice (Level 9)

He practiced until his arms ached, until his palms were raw, until every movement was engraved in his muscle memory.

The Gentle Fist wasn’t about brute force; it was about precision, about targeting the chakra points with surgical accuracy.

‘I’m not as good as Neji.

Not even close.

But I’m not the same person who could barely do the basic stance a month ago.’

<><>

On the evening before the tournament, Sho found Hinata in the family garden.

She was kneeling by the koi pond, her fingers trailing through the water.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” she said softly, not turning around.

Sho walked closer, settling onto the grass beside her.

“Looks very relaxing too.”

She smiled, finally turning to face him.

Her eyes were warm, full of quiet pride.

“You’ve changed so much, Sho-kun.

I can barely recognize you.”

“Still me,” he said.

“Just…

stronger.”

“Much stronger.” She reached out, squeezing his hand.

“I’m so proud of you.”

He felt a warmth spread through his chest.

“Thank you, Hinata.

For everything.

For teaching me, and for believing in me.”

“You’re my brother.

I’ll always believe in you.”

They sat in comfortable silence, watching the fish swim in circles below the surface.

“Are you nervous?” Hinata asked finally.

“A little,” Sho admitted.

“But not as much as I thought I’d be.

I’ve trained hard.

I’ve done everything I can.

”

“I know.” Hinata squeezed his hand again.

“That’s all that matters.

Whatever happens in the tournament, you’ve already proven something.”

“What’s that?”

“That you’re not weak.

You never were.

You just needed time to find your strength.”

Sho felt tears prick at his eyes.

He blinked them away quickly.

“Thank you.

That means a lot.”

<><>

A sharp voice cut through the peaceful moment.

“Enjoying your last night of peace, Shokuhi?”

Hanabi appeared from behind a hedge, her arms crossed, her expression disdainful.

She was dressed in her training clothes, her hair pulled back in a practical ponytail.

Sho sighed.

“Hanabi.

What do you want?”

“Just wanted to wish you luck,” Hanabi said, though her tone suggested the opposite.

“You’re going to need it.”

“Hanabi,” Hinata said, her voice carrying a warning tone.

“Be nice.”

“I’m being perfectly nice,” Hanabi said sweetly.

“I’m just stating facts.

The tournament is tomorrow, and he’s going to be humiliated.

I thought he should know.”

Sho rose to his feet, meeting his younger sister’s gaze.

“Is that what you think?”

“I know it.” Hanabi stepped closer, her eyes cold.

“You’ve been training for, what, a month?

Everyone else has been training for years.

If you think you can already compete with the other members of the clan, then you are looking down on the Gentle Fist…”

“You are the only one doing that,” Sho responded.

“Hmph!.

You’re going to embarrass the clan.

Father will be ashamed.

Hinata will be humiliated.

And I’ll be stuck cleaning up your mess.”

Sho felt his anger rising.

His little sister never had an ounce of respect for him.

She must have learned that from their father.

“Hanabi, that’s enough!” Hinata stood, her voice sharp.

“How can you say such things to our brother?.

You know very well that Sho would have been trained from the beginning if it wasn’t for his condition.”

“I’m just saying the truth,” Hanabi said flatly.

“You’ve been coddling him for years.

Refusing to see the truth.

But I’m not afraid to say what everyone else is thinking.”

She turned back to Sho, her expression cold.

“Stay out of my way tomorrow.

I don’t want to be associated with your failure.”

She stalked off, her footsteps fading into the distance.

Sho stood frozen, his fists clenched at his sides.

“Sho-kun…” Hinata’s voice was gentle.

“Don’t listen to her.

She’s just…

she’s just trying to make you doubt yourself.”

Sho took a deep breath, forcing his anger down.

“I know.

I know.”

“Sho-kun…”

“I’ll be okay, Hinata.

I promise.”

He walked away, but her worried eyes followed him all the way to his room.

‘I’ll make Hanabi see how wrong she is…’

<><>

That night, Sho lay in his futon, staring at the ceiling.

The tournament was tomorrow.

The culmination of everything he’d worked for.

‘I’m not going to win.

I know that, but that’s not important.

I’m going to show them all that I’m not the same weak, sickly boy they remember.’

He thought about the quest he’d accepted: Eyes of the Clan.

“Status,”

The System responded to his call, showing him a large text box containing all his information.

His eyes went all the way to the bottom, where the quests were displayed.

“Mmm?…

What is that?” He noticed something strange.

The text on the quest “Eyes of the Clan” was now glowing.

He had never seen the system doing that before.

“Why is it doing that?” He reached out with his finger and touched the glowing text.

Suddenly, the box changed, and a different text appeared before him.

[Quest: Eyes of the Clan]

Objective: Perform well in the next clan tournament to demonstrate your growth.

Reward: 5,000 Experience Points, Reward: Passive Skill – “Quick Learner”

Quick Learner Description: Your system has recognized your rapid growth and dedication.

All skill experience gained from training and combat is increased by 15%.

“Ohh!

There is a passive skill as a reward?…

Was it there before?” Sho tried to make a memory but couldn’t recall.

The experience reward was also massive and will likely allow him to gain another level.

This made him much more excited.

“I can’t wait until tomorrow.”
