At the gates of Konohagakure, a dashing young man in white carried a sword over one shoulder, a black bundle hanging from the blade.

His long black hair was loosely tied behind him.

Standing before the great gate, the corners of his thin lips curved faintly upward on a face sharp as carved stone.

The most striking thing about him, without question, was his eyes.

Pure white.

No pupils at all.

From within them radiated, at every moment, an air of absolute confidence and unbridled arrogance.

Nothing but white, not a single trace of any other color, yet everyone who saw those eyes would involuntarily think of exactly those two words.

“I’m back again, Konoha!”

The youth stepped forward and walked straight through the gate.

The ninja on duty guarding the entrance received not even a glance.

“Halt!”

“Who are you?”

The sharp shout made the youth’s brow crease slightly.

Head tilting just a fraction, the cool voice that came back carried no emotional weight whatsoever.

“You are…”

“Looking to die?”

“You, mmph, mmph —”

“Ah — sorry about that.

Kotetsu Hagane doesn’t recognize you, sir.

Please, go right in!”

The moment the youth spoke, the person beside the guard finally snapped out of the shock of seeing him.

One hand clapped firmly over the companion’s mouth as an urgent apology was directed at the youth.

“Heh.

How dull.”

A cold, contemptuous laugh.

The sword went back over one shoulder, and the youth kept walking.

Only when that retreating figure had completely disappeared did the person let out a long, hard breath and release the hand covering the companion’s mouth.

“Kotetsu Hagane — senior!”

“What were you just doing?

Why wouldn’t you let me ask questions?”

“That guy didn’t get checked for anything and just walked right in, what if something goes wrong?”

“Shut your mouth!”

“Tiedan!”

“Do you have any idea that if I hadn’t reacted fast enough, you’d have been dead just now?”

“And it would have been a pointless death, too.

No one would have stood up for you, not even the Hokage.”

“You’re only here covering for Izumo for a day.

There’s no reason to throw your life away.”

“Kotetsu Hagane, senior, who exactly is that person?”

“Acting that outrageously, does the family even know?”

A flicker of reminiscence crossed Kotetsu Hagane’s eyes.

Then something closer to fear.

“That person…

is the God of Gamblers of Konoha!”

“At age 3, gambled throughout Konoha without a single equal, taken on as a disciple by Lady Tsunade herself!”

“At age 9, nearly slaughtered every elder in the clan!”

“All because those elders wanted to carve the Caged Bird seal into the younger brother!”

“Back then, the words were: ‘Anyone who dares open their mouth today, I’ll remake the Hyūga from the ground up!'”

“That same year, a fist thrown at the Hokage, a sword swung at the elders.

One elder lost an arm.

Another lost two fingers.

Clean off.”

“This is the Madman of Konoha: Tiange Hyūga!”

“Gulp…”

Tiedan swallowed involuntarily, forehead drenched in cold sweat.

What the hell…

just what kind of person does something like that?

One hand reached up to lightly touch the neck.

Still there.

Good.

The head was still attached.

“Kotetsu Hagane, senior, so…

nothing happened at all?”

“What was going to happen?”

“The whole thing blew up pretty big afterward, nearly triggered a war with Kumogakure!”

“But then…

the people from Kumogakure got chased all the way back to the Land of Lightning.”

“Rumor has it there was even a fight against the Raikage, and after that, Kumogakure just let the whole matter drop.”

“After coming back, there was still an intent to kill the elders, in the end, if Lady Tsunade hadn’t rushed back and taken that person away, who knows whether Konoha would still have any elders today.”

“But right before leaving, the Hokage received a threat: if anything at all happened to the father or younger brother while in Konoha,”

“, upon return, every last person in Konoha would be slaughtered.”

“So, Tiedan!”

“Do you understand now that you genuinely just escaped with your life?”

“When it comes to the will to kill, no one in all of Konoha comes close.”

“The intent to kill someone, never a moment’s hesitation.”

And the very person they were speaking of, Tiange, had at that moment just kicked open the door to the Hokage’s office.

Looking at the Third Hokage fumbling to hide something in a flustered panic, Tiange couldn’t help a sneer.

“At your age, what good does looking do?

Can that thing of yours even still function?”

The Third Hokage was deeply embarrassed, but with this person standing in front of him, anger simply wasn’t an option.

“Tiange, you…

why are you back?”

“What, not welcome?”

Tiange’s eyes narrowed slightly.

A thread of dangerous light gleamed within them.

The Third Hokage jolted and shook his head at once.

“Of course not, Tiange, you are forever a part of Konoha.

You are an elite jonin.

How could you not be welcome?”

“Fine then, old man.

Register my return for me.

I won’t interrupt your sightseeing, I’m heading home first.”

He didn’t wait for any reaction.

He just turned and walked out.

“Tiange, has your teacher still not agreed to come back?”

“Her?

She says she hasn’t had enough fun yet.

She’ll come back on her own when she has.”

Tiange’s footsteps never slowed, yet the words fell clearly into the Third Hokage’s ears, as though spoken right beside him.

Watching that retreating figure, the Third Hokage felt a headache settling in.

With this bringer of calamity back in the village, there wasn’t the slightest idea how to handle the situation.

What was more, Tiange had grown stronger again.

The moment those eyes had narrowed just now, the Third Hokage had felt something lurch deep in the chest.

That feeling had absolutely never been there before.

On that point, the Third Hokage was utterly certain.

The Hyūga compound.

Tiange looked at the imposing estate before him, and the thick, stubborn contempt in his heart simply refused to lift.

Even after eighteen years in this world, his feelings on the matter hadn’t changed by a single degree.

Tiange was a transmigrator, the eldest son of Hizashi Hyūga, and the older brother of Neji Hyūga.

The moment those eyes had opened to see that achingly familiar face and the bandage wrapped across that forehead,

a deep, surging resentment had begun rising endlessly from within.

People called Naruto a story of hot blood and passion.

In Tiange’s eyes, there was nothing but cold blood.

The son of the Sage of Six Paths reincarnated.

The son of a Hokage became a Hokage.

The son of the one who supported stayed the one who supported.

And the child of the one who died as a substitute, ultimately died as a substitute too.

On what grounds?

Tiange refused to accept it.

He wanted to change things, at the very least, change the fate of this one tragic family.

When he transmigrated, a bead had come with him.

It fused directly into the space between his brows, with a mysterious space hidden inside.

At age 2, a deck of playing cards had been brought into that space by chance, and the God of Gamblers inheritance had opened.

Every manner of gambling scenario followed, and finally a match against the God of Gamblers himself.

Ten months later, the inheritance was cleared and claimed.

After that came the sweeping of every major gambling house in Konoha, enormous sums of money won, followed by setting up a public stall in the village, declaring that anyone who could beat him in gambling could take all of it.

This was done, naturally, to draw Tsunade’s attention.

A powerful backer was needed.

Then came the attempt of entering the bead space with nothing at all, and the only thing that activated an inheritance was the eyes themselves.

Figures who possessed the Byakugan formed the stages to be fought through, one after another.

That was how the path of Byakugan evolution was discovered.

And its highest form turned out to be the Jōgan.

The very Jōgan that Boruto Uzumaki possessed, a power meant only for the main family of the Otsutsuki clan.

Those who possessed the Byakugan were none of them weak, and at 3 years old, Tiange naturally couldn’t beat them.

So a sword was brought into the space as well, and the path of sword cultivation began.

From that point forward, no matter what else was brought inside, no new inheritance would ever open again.
