A month had passed since Team 7’s last mission.Full novel: Naruto: The White-Eyed Executioner of Konoha — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

In that one month, Team 7 completed twenty missions.

All C-rank.

Every single one a kill mission.

The three kids had grown numb to it.

That entire month was nothing but travel and slaughter.

When the other genin teams heard about their track record, they were left speechless.

Team 7 wasn’t just crazy about taking missions, the people in it were crazy too.

Every classmate who found out what they’d been doing felt their hair stand on end.

It was true enough.

One great killing star had raised three little killing stars.

That said, over that same month, all three of them had made serious gains.

Sakura had already mastered Chakra Enhanced Strength and started learning medical ninjutsu.

Naruto had learned the Rasengan and was working on nature transformation.

On top of that, he could now keep his head in two-tails mode.

Sasuke had mastered Chidori, and Lightning Cutter too, though with his chakra reserves he could only use it once, and he was also pushing into nature transformation training.

Under Tiange’s guidance, he had even begun developing Chidori Current.

It wasn’t only ninjutsu.

Tiange hadn’t let up on their taijutsu either.

He’d set the sword arts inheritance aside for now, he hadn’t finished walking that path himself, but he’d at least opened that door for them.

Between that and everything he carried from his past life, Tiange knew the truth: the body was the foundation of everything.

The human body held infinite secrets.

Even if this world couldn’t unlock all of them, a strong body would never betray you.

Tiange also knew the relentless killing had done some damage to all three of them.

Not physical damage.

So this time, he’d pick something lighter.

Let the three of them breathe for a while.

“This one.”

The Third looked at Tiange’s selection and quietly exhaled.

Good.

Good.

Just an escort mission.

Finally, this menace had chosen something that wasn’t a kill assignment.

Tiange’s repeated mission choices had rattled the Third enough that the Hokage had taken to personally staffing the mission desk.

Every time, the Third tried to talk Tiange down, citing how young the three kids still were.

It never worked.

The Third’s authority as Hokage counted for absolutely nothing in front of Tiange.

Tiange was stubborn, and he’d produced three equally stubborn little mules to match.

The three of them never breathed a single complaint about Tiange’s choices.

Naruto had even said it to the Third’s face, that all the nagging was just getting in the way of them getting stronger.

“Good.

This one it is.”

The Third hurriedly registered Tiange and Team 7, scrawling through the paperwork like someone afraid of giving Tiange a second to reconsider, then called out toward the door.

“You can come in now.”

An old man shuffled inside, face flushed with drink, a wine bottle swinging from one hand.

“This is the client for your mission.”

“Tazuna — master bridge builder from the Land of Waves.”

“Your task is to protect him until the bridge is finished.”

“Tazuna, this is the team that accepted your mission.”

With introductions done, the Third settled back, lit a smoke, and said nothing more.

A fine mission, this one.

At least a month of work, and not too much killing.

It would give the three kids a real chance to rest.

Get their heads straight.

The Third was genuinely worried about them.

By now, there was some regret about assigning Tiange to lead Team 7 in the first place.

Naruto especially.

Naruto was the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki, strategic value to the village was enormous.

The Third didn’t want Naruto turning into a killing machine with nothing else left, because a Naruto like that would be a Naruto no one could control.

But there was no remedy for regret.

With others, the Third could apply pressure through different means.

With Team 7, the leader was Tiange.

All the Third dared do was offer gentle discouragements and take care not to push too hard even then.

After the introductions, Tazuna looked the four of them over.

Three kids who weren’t particularly old.

A teacher who looked unreasonably young.

Tazuna’s expression curdled.

“Just you three little brats, and a ninja this young, you can really keep me safe?”

“You should know, I’m—”

“Shut up.”

Naruto’s bark cut straight through it.

All three of them fixed Tazuna with flat, murderous stares.

“Keep running your mouth and you’ll be the first client I’ve ever killed.”

“Want to find out?”

Tazuna’s face went white.

That killing intent was real, and the smiles on their faces were worse than the intent.

“H— Hokage, sir…

c-could I request a d-different team to protect me?”

Tazuna stammered the words out, voice stumbling over itself.

He had already hidden the mission’s true rank.

He hadn’t disclosed his real situation, and if these people figured it out, he was fairly sure they’d kill him before anyone else got the chance.

“I’m afraid not.”

“Once a mission is registered, it cannot be reassigned, unless the accepting team voluntarily withdraws, or the entire team is wiped out.”

“There’s really no other way?”

“I genuinely don’t want this team.”

The Third’s refusal hadn’t killed Tazuna’s hope.

Still pushing.

“There is one way.”

“What?”

“The client cancels the mission and resubmits.”

“Then I’ll cancel.”

“If the client cancels unilaterally, we don’t refund the posting fee.

Are you certain, Tazuna?”

“This…”

Tazuna went still.

No refund?

He’d lowballed the mission rank in the first place because he’d been afraid to list the real one.

With his budget stretched thin, every coin mattered.

He’d bought himself a jug of cheap wine, drank it down for courage, and filed the mission at a lower rank than it deserved.

But now, resubmitting meant paying the posting fee all over again.

Tazuna was not willing.

The problem was that even though he’d listed it as an escort mission, the requirement to guard him all the way through to the bridge’s completion made the timeline enormous.

Even at the maximum rate for a C-rank job, no one had been willing to take it.

It wasn’t worth it.

In the same stretch of time, any competent shinobi could knock out a string of D-rank missions and walk away with more money.

A proper C-rank would pay several times more than what Tazuna was offering.

Anyone could do that math.

Tazuna had assumed he was the clever one.

His posting sat untouched for a full week.

No one even glanced at it.

Prices in Konoha were not forgiving, and that week had cost Tazuna.

Scraping by on one meal a day, filling the other two with the cheapest jug of wine available.

Even then, the money bled away faster than he liked.

He’d come back to the mission desk anxious and desperate, standing there wavering over whether to bump the rank up and drain what little he had left,

when someone told him his posting had finally been accepted.

He’d celebrated with a few long gulps from the bottle, then came to meet his new team.

He hadn’t expected four killing stars.

Now, resubmitting meant losing the money already spent.

Continuing meant risking his life.

Tazuna was stuck.

“Are you going through with this or not?”

“Straight answer.”

Naruto had run out of patience.

The stare fixed on Tazuna left no room for stalling.

“Continuing.”

Under that pressure, Tazuna set his jaw and forced the word out.

“One hour to prepare.

Assemble at the Konoha gate.

Dismissed.”
