Light bathed the barren valley where an ancient monument stood imposing.

The colossal stone structure thrummed, radiating waves of magical energy that left the surrounding air feeling heavy and dense.

This was the Eclipse Gate, a marvel of spatial and temporal magic that held the key to altering the world’s destiny.Full novel: New World, Different Dimension: The Path of Natsu Dragneel — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Before the gate, Zeref stood in absolute silence.

His black robes fluttered gently in the passing breeze.

His dark, fathomless eyes carried layers of profound sorrow, yet for the first time in centuries, a faint glimmer of hope was etched within them.

With a raised hand, he guided the flow of magic, keeping the temporal vortex within the gate perfectly stable.

Directly across from the Black Wizard, a colossal crimson dragon fixated his sharp, reptilian eyes on the swirling vortex.

This was Igneel, the Fire Dragon King.

Cradled gently and securely within Igneel’s massive, warm claws lay a young, pink-haired boy.

Natsu Dragneel was fast asleep, his breathing deep and peaceful.

A sleeping spell had been cast upon him, ensuring the boy would feel none of the turbulence from traversing centuries of time.

“Anna Heartfilia and the others have already gone through,” Igneel’s deep, resonant voice echoed, causing the loose gravel on the ground to tremble.

“Metalicana, Grandeeney, Weisslogia, and Skiadrum…

they have ventured into the future.

To an era where Eternano should be abundant enough to sustain our souls.”

Zeref gave a slow nod.

“This is our final gamble, Igneel.

The future is the only place where you all can heal, and the only era where Natsu might cultivate enough power to end my curse—and put a stop to Acnologia.”

Igneel lowered his massive head, gazing at his adopted son’s innocent, sleeping face for a fleeting moment before meeting Zeref’s eyes once more.

The Fire Dragon King stepped forward, allowing the radiant vortex of the Eclipse Gate to lap at his immense form.

“Your duty in this era is done, Zeref,” Igneel said, his tone utterly calm.

“Let us meet again in the future.”

“Indeed,” Zeref replied softly, a melancholic smile curving his lips.

“Safe travels, Igneel.”

As the dragon took his final step into the portal, Zeref relinquished his magic.

The Eclipse Gate rumbled violently before snapping shut with a deafening, magical shockwave, plunging the valley back into profound silence.

Crossing through the Eclipse tunnel wasn’t a mere physical journey; it was an overwhelming barrage of spatial and temporal distortion.

Around Igneel, there was neither sky nor earth.

There was only a blinding torrent of light streaking past like comets, flashing distorted glimpses of both the past and the future.

Igneel focused his senses, reaching out to track the magical signatures of the dragons who had gone ahead of him.

He could feel the lingering tang of Metalicana’s iron magic and the gentle breeze of Grandeeney’s wind drifting along the temporal pathway ahead.

Everything was going according to plan.

They were on the right course toward the future.

Suddenly, midway through their temporal voyage, an eerie tremor rippled through the void.

Igneel’s eyes widened.

The supposedly stable time tunnel began to violently churn.

The surrounding lights shifted colors erratically, forcefully warping and buckling the dimensions.

A ferocious temporal storm slammed into them from a blind spot.

A spatial and temporal anomaly!

Igneel realized in shock.

The gravitational pull of the storm was terrifying.

Igneel roared, beating his massive wings in a desperate bid to stay on course.

But inside the Eclipse vortex, brute physical strength was meaningless.

The turbulence ripped through the fabric of time, tearing open a dimensional rift that began sucking in everything nearby.

The magical signatures of the other dragons were severed instantly, swallowed whole by the temporal storm.

Igneel knew right then that he had been entirely separated from the rest.

Realizing that fighting the current was not only futile but posed a lethal threat to Natsu, the Fire Dragon King immediately curled his colossal body and wings inward, forming an impenetrable, living shield around the sleeping human boy.

A blinding flash of white light consumed them both, and the temporal tunnel shattered around them.

A deafening boom shattered the tranquility of a dense, primeval forest.

The explosive shockwave of something plummeting from the sky instantly flattened dozens of towering trees, gouging out a massive, smoking crater filled with swirling dust.

Birds scattered wildly into the sky, while the local beasts bolted in terror away from the epicenter of the crash.

At the heart of the crater, amidst pulverized rock and scorched earth, a colossal mound of crimson scales slowly began to stir.

Igneel opened his eyes.

A wave of intense vertigo assaulted his senses—the brutal aftereffect of being forcefully ejected from a temporal storm.

With a powerful shake of his wings, he cast off the debris and shattered trunks burying him, then immediately looked down.

Safely tucked behind his massive claws, Natsu was still sound asleep.

The boy’s breathing was perfectly steady, completely unfazed by the catastrophic impact.

Igneel let out a massive sigh of relief.

The dragon then raised his head, his sharp predatory instincts scanning the surroundings.

He was deep within an incredibly dense forest.

The ancient trees here towered to impossible heights, their thick canopies completely blotting out the sky.

There was a distinct, rich scent of damp earth, the distant rushing of a river, and the calls of exotic, unfamiliar wildlife.

Igneel narrowed his eyes.

In all his centuries of life, he had flown over every conceivable corner of Earthland.

He knew every landscape, every scent of the forest, and every species of tree in his world.

Yet, this place sparked absolutely no recognition.

The vegetation was alien.

Even the very scent of the earth felt wrong.

More concerning than that, Igneel realized something far more fundamental.

He took a slow, deep breath, drawing the air through his massive nostrils.

The Eternano…

The sheer density of the magical particles in the air was unlike anything he had ever experienced in Earthland.

The atmosphere here felt incredibly heavy, feral, and yet…

remarkably pure.

This wasn’t just the ambient magical residue of nature; this was ancient, primordial energy.

It felt as though this world hadn’t even been fully subjected to the modern laws of magic yet.

“We’ve been thrown entirely off course,” Igneel murmured, his deep voice trembling with the weight of this new reality.

“This isn’t Earthland.

That temporal storm spat us out into a completely unknown world.”

Igneel looked down at the innocent, sleeping face of Natsu, and his heart sank.

Their master plan had completely fallen apart.

In this strange, untamed world, what unseen dangers lay in wait?

What kind of terrifying creatures could thrive in a land overflowing with such savage magical energy?

But the most pressing threat wasn’t this alien landscape—it was what lay dormant inside Natsu.

Igneel could feel the Dragon Seed within the boy beginning to faintly pulse, eagerly responding to the primordial energy saturating the air.

If Natsu were exposed to such a concentrated, dense magical environment for too long, the Dragonification process would rapidly accelerate.

The boy would lose his humanity entirely and mutate into a mindless, apocalyptic dragon—doomed to suffer the exact same fate as Acnologia.

The only way to halt the process was to suppress the seed from within.

Igneel would have to enter Natsu’s body and painstakingly forge Dragon antibodies over time.

However, doing so would cause Igneel’s physical form to cease to exist, forcing him into a deep, centuries-long slumber within the child’s soul.

Igneel lowered his massive head, bringing his snout within inches of Natsu’s face.

The dragon’s warm breath gently rustled the boy’s pink hair.

A sharp pang of agony tightened the Fire Dragon King’s chest—an overwhelming, suffocating sense of guilt.

“Forgive me, Natsu,” Igneel whispered, his great voice hoarse with emotion.

“I won’t be able to stay by your side as you brave this unknown world.

If I remain out here, you will mutate into a monster just like Acnologia.

I have to sleep within you and create the antibodies, so you can stay human.”

A brilliant crimson light began to radiate from beneath Igneel’s scales.

His colossal body softly glowed as he prepared to break down his physical form into pure spiritual energy.

“Survive, my son.

Grow into a strong man,” Igneel said softly, his fierce eyes melting with affection as he gazed at the child one last time.

“Though you may be alone in this strange, new world…

know that I will always be protecting you from within.”

With a blinding flash of light and a rush of warm wind, the Fire Dragon King faded away.

His essence was gently drawn into Natsu Dragneel’s body, leaving the young boy sleeping soundly, utterly alone in the heart of a vast, unmapped forest in a world completely unknown to them both.
