“What documentary?”
The cousin blinked her eyes in confusion.
After returning home, Lin Xiyu had changed into clean clothes, so her cousin didn’t know about her rescue incident.
Gu Bin looked slightly surprised: “You haven’t told your family yet?”
“I forgot.”
Lin Xiyu gave an awkward laugh.
“You can forget something like that?!”
Gu Bin was both angry and amused. Restraining himself because the cousin was present, he didn’t give her another knuckle rap on the head.
Lin Xiyu’s ears felt warm.
After coming back, she had been too busy being angry with Zhang Dafen and had genuinely forgotten about this matter.
“Forget it. Since you haven’t mentioned it, I won’t say too much either.”
Not wanting to reveal too many details in front of the cousin, Gu Bin said: “I came to tell you not to forget to watch Jinan News at 6:30 tonight.”
Lin Xiyu looked bewildered: “Why watch the news?”
“Just watch it when I tell you to!”
Gu Bin’s handsome face darkened, leaving no room for argument.
“Alright then.”
Lin Xiyu nodded to show she understood.
“You must watch it…”
Remembering how she had pretended to agree with the female reporter last time, Gu Bin narrowed his eyes and added with concern: “Remember, you can’t forget this time. Have your family watch it with you.”
“Understood.”
Lin Xiyu agreed obediently, her attitude sincere.
“I’m leaving. We’ll talk about other things tomorrow.”
Satisfied, Gu Bin turned his handlebars around and rode off in the direction Zhang Dafen’s love interest had taken.
“That classmate of yours comes from a well-off family. His parents are quite willing to spend money on him…”
The cousin watched him leave, smacking her lips and clicking her tongue several times. Only when he completely disappeared from view did she reluctantly withdraw her gaze.
“How do you know that?”
Lin Xiyu showed some surprise.
“He’s riding an imported gear mountain bike from overseas.””
The cousin had sharp eyes and analyzed precisely: “Over a thousand yuan per bike, exactly like the one I saw in the specialty store. Only that one was dark green, while his is black. The tires look thicker, so it should be even more expensive…”
“So expensive?!”
Living up to her cousin’s expectations, Lin Xiyu was indeed shocked, her heart pounding wildly.
Her mother was an elementary school teacher with a monthly salary of six hundred yuan.
Her grandmother’s pension was only four hundred yuan.
A variable-speed mountain bike costing over a thousand yuan—their combined monthly salaries wouldn’t be enough to cover it.
“Exactly…”
The cousin felt somewhat proud: “These eyes of mine are like fiery golden pupils. Whether it’s people or objects, I never forget them after seeing them once. Next time we meet, I’ll definitely recognize them.”
Lin Xiyu sighed sincerely: “If only you had a photographic memory when studying too.”
Cousin: “…”
Felt as if a knife had been stabbed through her heart.
Her cousin could be too blunt sometimes, not very endearing.
The clock pointed to 6:30, and the sky was gradually darkening.
Aunt came out from the yard, calling the two cousins to come home for dinner.
Lin Xiyu and her cousin worked together to pull down the rolling shutter door, locked it securely, and happily ran back home.
When there were guests entertaining the son-in-law, grandmother’s tradition was to make dumplings.
Today was no exception—they were having carrot dumplings, with the filling divided into two portions.
The large basin contained vegetarian filling, while the small bowl held meat filling. There wasn’t much meat—only about thirty dumplings—so among the eight family members, each would get only three or four.
The dumplings were ready. Grandma turned on the 14-inch Panda brand black-and-white television, and the family gathered around the table to begin their meal.
Lin Xiyu scooped ten vegetarian dumplings into her bowl. Without a word, her cousin quietly added several meat-filled ones from the platter, sharing half with her.
The two cousins exchanged a smile, then carried their plates to the bedside and sat down together.
