But Rosa didn’t care who he married.

A flash of shock crossed her face, followed by a flicker of unease.

She tightened her grip on Luciano’s arm to assert ownership, like she needed Rosa to see that he belonged to her now.

Rosa didn’t react.

She didn’t look at them twice.

She had a job to do, and that was all she focused on.

Luciano had noticed her the very second he walked through the door, but he hadn’t spared her a second glance since.

His anger had flared up the moment he saw her.The sight of her brought back the sharp memory of last night—seeing her in another man’s arms—and it made his blood boil.

He sat quietly in a corner, and the manager immediately rushed over to offer him a glass of wine.

Laura insisted that he come over and help her choose the jewelry, but he ignored her, too.

His coldness only made Laura more irritated.

Instead, Luciano just smoked his cigarette, trying to control his rage.

He was fighting the urge to drag Rosa out of the store right then and there, in front of everyone, to make her realize the mistake she had made by crossing him.

Laura marched straight toward the section Rosa was assigned to.

She didn’t greet her, didn’t smile, didn’t even acknowledge that they once knew each other.

She simply pointed at the display case and said sharply,”Take out those pieces.

I want to see them.”

Before Rosa could move, the supervisor rushed over, almost tripping in her hurry.

Laura Rossi was one of their regular high-spending clients—there was no way the supervisor would let a new salesgirl handle her alone.

“Let me show you, Miss Rossi,” the supervisor offered quickly, already reaching for the keys. This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.

“No.

Not you.”

Laura’s voice was curt as she demanded.

She lifted her hand and pointed directly at Rosa.

“Her.

She will show me.”

Rosa’s eyes lifted to Laura’s, and in that instant, she understood everything—the smug curl of her lips, the challenge gleaming in her eyes, the deliberate attempt to put her in her place.

The supervisor shot Rosa a worried look, but Rosa offered a reassuring smile and took the key from her.

Her expression remained calm and professional, pretending she didn’t know the woman in front of her.

To her, Laura was just another customer—someone who might buy something and help her earn a small commission.

Nothing more.

With a polite, practiced smile, Rosa opened the display case and carefully placed the jewelry pieces on the velvet tray.

“These are some of our finest designs, ma’am,” she said calmly.

“This one in particular would suit you very well.”

Laura’s lips stretched into a smug smile that Rosa was standing on the other side of the counter like any ordinary staff member.

She lifted her chin, enjoying the feeling of having the upper hand.

“Of course,” she said, examining a necklace with an exaggerated air.

“If my man wants, he can buy me the entire store.

But right now, I’m looking for something special… something to wear on our special date.”

She turned to look at Luciano as she said it, her voice dripping with meaning.

“Right, darling?”

Luciano didn’t even bother to look up.

His eyes stayed glued to his phone as he scrolled absent-mindedly, a half-burned cigarette still clutched between his fingers.

He looked utterly uninterested in everything around him.

Laura rolled her eyes and demanded to see more pieces.

The supervisor, relieved to see how smoothly Rosa was handling everything, nodded in approval and walked off to assist another customer.

The moment no one was close enough to overhear, Laura leaned in—still holding an expensive jewelry piece between her fingers—and whispered in a venom-laced tone,”Why did you come back?

Why didn’t you just disappear?

Why didn’t you die?”

”Excuse me?!” Rosa’s brows knit together in a small frown.

Yes, Laura had always been unkind—sharp-tongued, jealous, and possessive—but this level of hatred, and showing it so openly in public, was unexpected.

Rosa wasn’t Luciano’s wife anymore.

Laura was the one marrying him next month.

So why did she still sound threatened?

Why was she still this vicious?

But in the very next moment, Laura’s smile twisted into something darker, evil, vicious—something almost triumphant.

Before Rosa could understand what was happening, Laura’s hand shot forward and slipped straight into the breast pocket of Rosa’s shirt.

“Why are you hiding that piece in your clothes?” Laura screamed suddenly, her voice sharp and loud enough to slice through the entire store.

Every head turned.

Customers, staff—everyone stopped.

Rosa froze, startled, completely blindsided.

And then Laura yanked her hand back out of Rosa’s pocket, holding up the jewelry piece for the whole store to see, her face arranged into the perfect expression of shock.

“Oh my God, Rosa!” she gasped dramatically.

“This is the most expensive piece in the store, I guess.

You could have never afforded this in your life—so you thought you’d steal it?”
