Elsie, LP 4000
Kaiba Hanatsuki, LP 4000
“I’ll go first!
Draw!”
“Hmm…
4000 Life Points and drawing a card while going first?
DM-era rules.” He remained fairly calm about the game; last night, Jounouchi Mai had already explained it to him.
After all, they were just freshmen, if their mental energy was overtaxed, it could be physically dangerous, maybe even landing them in the hospital.
Once they reached higher grades and the top players started duking it out, Life Points would rise to 8000.
He leaned over to check Elsie’s situation.
Wow…
should he say the girl was lucky or unlucky?
None of the cards he had swapped in had come up, her hand was absolutely perfect.
“Normal Summon <Magician’s Valkyria>, in Attack Position!”
With Elsie’s sweet shout, a monster resembling <Dark Magician Girl> appeared.
<Magician’s Valkyria>, ATK 1600
“Next, I activate a Spell Card, <Double Summon>, summoning a second <Magician’s Valkyria>!”
And…
that was the end of her turn.
Not a single card set, leaving just two identical blonde girls dancing on the open field.
This was a serious problem.
Yugi could allow a weak summoner, but it couldn’t tolerate one being completely passive.
So…
he made a few small adjustments to her deck.
At this point, Elsie still hadn’t realized how serious things were, even showing a slightly smug expression.
Aside from not having set any Spell Cards, this was the strongest field she could summon at the moment.
“How’s that, Mr.
Yugi!” Her eyes sparkled, pleading for praise and a head pat, something that would make it hard for an ordinary person to refuse.
“Focus on the duel, will you?” Of course, Yugi wasn’t included in that, since he was the passive observer here.
“Y- Yes!” Elsie quickly turned her attention to Kaiba Hanatsuki.
“As long as <Magician’s Valkyria> exists in the Monster Zone, you can’t target other Spellcaster-type monsters for attacks.
And since I have two <Magician’s Valkyrias> on my field, you can’t attack with any monster at all, your attacks are completely blocked.”
“My turn ends!”
Watching from the sidelines, Yugi couldn’t help but cover his face with his hand.
This little blue-haired girl was almost too honest, while that was technically correct in the real card game environment, didn’t everyone in the anime usually hide their effects until the opponent hit a wall before explaining?
He thought bitterly about the DM spirit, like how a single effect of <Slifer the Sky Dragon> could take three duels to fully reveal.
Elsie had been training diligently, and even if she was somewhat inept, her strength was still above the average freshman.
Her tactics were already decent during the Axe King battle phase, but her opponent’s skill level far exceeded that of a newbie.
“Block my attacks?
You’re being far too naive.
Tricks like that won’t work!”
Kaiba Hanatsuki sneered.
“First, I activate a Spell Card, <Trade-In>, sending <Blue-Eyes White Dragon> from my hand to the Graveyard, then draw two cards.”
“Then I reveal <Blue-Eyes White Dragon> from my hand and Special Summon my duel spirit, descend now!
This is the evolved form of the Blue-Eyes.
With your blinding radiance, turn all fools to dust!”
A brilliant white light blazed across the space.
The previously ethereal form of <Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon> materialized on the field, letting out a piercing roar.
<Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon>, ATK 3000.
“Roar———–!”
Scorching wind surged in all directions.
Even those with duel spirits protecting them had to cross their arms to shield themselves, while poor Elsie was blown back like a fallen leaf, eventually colliding into a solid chest.
“M- Mr.
Yugi…”
Her face flushed slightly, though Yugi didn’t notice the shy scene; he said in a serious tone, “Your defense line is about to be breached.
Prepare to defend and counterattack.”
“Huh?!”
Elsie quickly turned her head and saw Kaiba Hanatsuki pointing at her.
“Activate <Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon>’s effect.
Target one of your monsters and destroy it!”
“Bang———!”
One of her <Magician’s Valkyrias> screamed and shattered into white light, entering the Graveyard.
“With that, your defense line has been broken.
While Blue-Eyes Alternative can’t attack the turn its effect is activated, using other monsters is enough to achieve the goal.” Kaiba Hanatsuki slammed another card onto the Duel Disk.
“Show yourself, <Assault Wyvern>!”
Light flashed, and a monster clad in deep blue armor with sharp blades on its head, wings, and four legs appeared, roaring.
<Assault Wyvern>, ATK 1800
“Enter the Battle Phase!
Assault Wyvern, attack <Magician’s Valkyria>!”
The newly summoned monster dove at the <Magician’s Valkyria>.
In the Yu-Gi-Oh!
world, even a 200-point difference could be overwhelming.
Poor Elsie’s magical girl screamed as she was launched backward, turning into white light before hitting the ground.
Elsie, LP 4000 -> 3800
“When <Assault Wyvern> destroys an opponent’s monster by battle, I can Tribute it to Special Summon another Dragon-type monster from my hand or Graveyard.”
Kaiba Hanatsuki waved his hand.
“Revive, <Blue-Eyes White Dragon>!”
A brilliant silver light surged from the Graveyard, forming one of the most iconic monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh!
world.
Not a duel spirit like his sister Kaiba Ayatsuki’s, but still sharp and imposing.
<Blue-Eyes White Dragon>, ATK 3000
“Hmm, this really isn’t the Yu-Gi-Oh!
world from the anime or manga.”
Yugi could almost make a judgment now.
In the world that Teacher Takahashi built, there were only four <Blue-Eyes White Dragons>.
After the CEO tore away Grandpa Kaiba’s copy, only three remained.
There was no reason for both older and younger sisters to use Blue-Eyes at the same time.
“<Blue-Eyes White Dragon>, attack directly!
Burst stream of destruction———!”
“I- I discard <Kuriboh> from my hand to negate the battle damage!”
Just as the dazzling white light approached, a small, fluffy gray monster floated midair, making a “kuri kuri” sound, colliding with the white light and shattering.
Kuriboh!
Kuriboh jumped out by itself!
“Hmph,” Kaiba Hanatsuki let out a light CEO-style snort.
“At least you have some backbone.
It wouldn’t be fun if you got crushed so easily.
Set two cards, end my turn.”
Compared to Elsie’s two monsters hopping around on an empty field, Kaiba’s field looked much more solid.
It was clear that the Second Miss Kaiba wasn’t just good at aggressive attacks, her tactics were also steady, not the type to rush recklessly.
“My turn, draw…
Huh?!”
Seeing the card in her hand, Elsie was startled, she didn’t remember putting it in her deck.
“Mr.
Yugi…” she quickly realized, turning to the Yugi supporting her.
He gave her a thumbs-up and uttered the classic line from Master KD:
“To make your deck playable, I made a few improvements.”
