Silence fell over the Grand Assembly Hall, so absolute that the falling particles of wooden dust sounded like rain against the marble floor.

Inside the cavernous chamber, over two hundred high nobles, sanctioned arch-mages, and military generals sat in tiered stone amphitheaters surrounding the central dais. At the center of the dais sat three golden high-chairs occupied by the three Arch-Dukes of the realm: Arch-Duke Vane, a ruthless warlord clad in black dragon-scale armor; Arch-Duke Sterling, an elder arch-mage holding a staff topped with a writhing purple void-gem; and Arch-Duke Kael, a cunning diplomat draped in priceless furs.

At the very back of the dais, towering above everything, sat the vacant Supreme Frost Throne a colossal, floating chair carved from a single block of divine frost-crystal, pulsing with dying, pale blue light.Full novel: Omniarch — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Arch-Duke Vane slammed his gauntleted fist onto the armrest of his golden chair, standing up as his eyes flared with murderous intent. "Ironwood! Have you lost your mind?! Bringing armed force into the sovereign council is high treason!"

Duke Ironwood stepped through the shattered doorway, flanked by Princess Elena. "Treason, Vane?" the Duke's voice boomed across the chamber. "The only treason here is the slow murder of our realm! You three siphon the royal ley-lines to fuel your private armies while our borders bleed!"

Arch-Duke Sterling, the elder arch-mage, sneered from his chair, raising his void-staff. "Foolish soldier. The royal line is weak. The ancient blood-seals are fading because Princess Elena lacks the strength to rule. We are merely taking the power required to stabilize the continent!"

"Is that what you tell yourselves?"

Adam's soft, calm voice cut through the shouting matches. Though he spoke barely above a whisper, his words resonated clearly inside the mind of every single noble in the room.

Adam walked down the central aisle toward the dais, his dark tunic swaying gently in the cool draft. He ignored the hundreds of shocked, hostile gazes locked onto him.

Arch-Duke Sterling's eyes narrowed as he locked onto Adam. "Who is this peasant? Guards! Grand-Mages! Execute this intruder where he stands!"

From the upper tiers of the amphitheater, twelve elite court arch-mages stood up in unison. They began incantations in the high elemental tongue, their staves illuminating with devastating, rank-eight destruction magic. Twelve massive magic circles ranging from roaring crimson hellfire to jagged purple lightning manifested in the air above Adam, threatening to reduce the entire central aisle to a molten crater.

"Die, arrogant bug!" Sterling cackled.

The twelve arch-mages released their spells simultaneously. A roaring torrent of chaotic, elemental destruction rained down upon Adam, blinding the entire assembly hall with searing light.

Adam didn't pause his stride. He didn't look up. He simply raised his left hand and made a slight, downward sweeping motion with his palm.

SNAP.

The roaring torrent of rank-eight destruction magic didn't explode. It didn't impact a barrier. The twelve complex magic arrays, along with the raw mana powering them, were instantly unraveled at their fundamental structural level. The blinding light, the hellfire, and the purple lightning vanished in a single microsecond, replaced by a gentle, warm breeze that dusted the marble floor.

Up in the tiers, the twelve court arch-mages gasped violently. The sudden, absolute erasure of their spells caused an immediate mana-backlash. Their staves shattered into dust, and all twelve mages tumbled backward into their seats, coughing blood as their magic cores were temporarily locked in complete stasis.

The two hundred nobles in the amphitheater scrambled backward in sheer terror, knocking over chairs and spilling wine goblets as they screamed.

Arch-Duke Vane drew his massive black dragon-blade, his teeth bared in a feral, terrified snarl. "What sorcery is this?! What artifact are you using?!"

Adam stopped at the foot of the central dais. He looked past the three terrified Arch-Dukes, his gaze landing squarely on the floating Supreme Frost Throne behind them.

To Adam's eyes, the throne was wrapped in thousands of thick, parasitic crimson threads the very threads of chaos that were slowly draining the life force of the entire northern continent. The three Arch-Dukes had been unwittingly acting as puppets for an ancient, parasitic void-entity lurking beneath the palace, feeding on their blind ambition and political strife.

"You slaughter your own people for a chair of frozen mana," Adam said softly, his dark eyes reflecting the cold truth of the cosmos. "And you do not even realize you are being fed upon like cattle."

Adam took a single step up the stairs of the dais. The sheer, invisible weight of his presence pressed down upon the three Arch-Dukes. Their golden high-chairs groaned before snapping at the legs, dropping all three powerful warlords onto their knees on the cold stone.

"Duke Ironwood," Adam called out quietly, without turning his head.

The Duke stepped forward, bowing respectfully. "Senior!"

"Step up to this dais," Adam commanded, pointing a finger at the parasitic crimson threads wrapping around the throne. "It is time to cleanse this house and sever the rot at its roots."
