The mountain breeze outside the wooden cabin blew away the lingering smell of gunpowder.
But that had nothing to do with Ron.
The constant-temperature latex mattress inside the room had become his greatest comfort tonight.
The System might be questionable in other areas, but it certainly knew its stuff when it came to daily necessities.
This high-end piece of gear, which could intelligently adjust its support based on the body’s weight, was practically a dimensional strike in a place like the East Blue.
Lying on it, all fatigue vanished.
Ron stretched his limbs and rolled around on it twice, feeling that the moldy wooden bed left behind by Dadan could finally be chopped up for firewood.
Under the covers, Uta wore only a thin white silk camisole.
She was soft all over, clinging tightly to Ron.
One of her slender legs was draped domineeringly across him, her small face pressed tightly against his solid chest, her breathing steady as she slept without a care in the world.
Her lower leg was even subconsciously rubbing against a certain spot.
The unique, sweet fragrance of a young girl wafted through the blankets, smelling very pleasant.
Ron had originally planned to pull Makino up as well, just to test the mattress’s weight-bearing limit for two.
But seeing the exaggerated size, Makino’s fair neck had turned bright red.
She nervously twisted her fingers, making up a lame excuse about laundry still needing to be collected in the yard.
Dropping a quick “Ron-kun, get some rest early,” she hurried down the mountain and back to the tavern.
Ron was in no rush.
The meat was already in his pot.
When the heat was right, it would cook naturally.
A forced melon is never sweet.
The night was deep and quiet.
Ron rested one hand behind his head, while the other stroked Uta’s smooth back absentmindedly.
It was purely because it felt nice.
The little girl had not fully grown up yet, and he was not beast enough to go that far.
Uta hummed twice, snuggled further into his armpit, and kept her eyes closed, still sleepy.
Just at this moment, on the cliff edge at the mountainside, the raging fire had been extinguished with a single sword strike.
But certain emotions had completely erupted within Sabo’s heart.
Sitting on the edge of the cliff, he braved the cold, burnt-smelling wind, staring fixedly at the massive path that had been forcibly carved open by sword energy beneath his feet.
The people who had luckily survived were embracing and weeping.
The ugly faces of the rulers of the Goa Kingdom were magnified to the extreme at this moment.
The ship of the Celestial Dragons was arriving soon.
Those privileged classes perched high in the clouds could not even be bothered to put on a disguise for the sake of their so-called dignity, burning tens of thousands of lives just like that.
Sabo looked down at his hands, and by the moonlight, he could clearly see the calluses worn into his palms.
But within this body, after all, flowed the same dirty noble blood as those executioners.
As long as he stayed here, that father of his, Outlook III, would never stop.
The Bluejam Pirates were wiped out today, but tomorrow it might be replaced by the real, live ammunition-wielding Kingdom Army.
Big Brother Ron was very strong.
But that was absolutely no excuse for Sabo to comfortably linger and refuse to leave.
Let a Big Brother who should be enjoying life deal with these disgusting bugs all day because of him?
Big Brother should have just been lying comfortably in a hot spring, drinking cold beverages, and enjoying massages from Big Sister Makino.
This leisurely daily life must absolutely not be ruined by him.
“Not causing trouble for others, that is what a man does.”
Sabo wiped his face vigorously.
He had to cut ties with the past and go to the sea to find true freedom.
Only by leaving could he let everyone have peace.
He snuck back into the side room.
The room was filled with thunderous snoring.
Luffy was sleeping in a sprawling position, a large snot bubble rhythmically expanding and popping with his breathing.
Ace had snatched the only thin blanket, wrapping himself up tightly, with half his face covered inside.
Sabo found a piece of charcoal used for starting fires, pulled out a yellowed piece of parchment he had found from somewhere, and lay on the drafty windowsill, writing quickly.
“Luffy, Ace, and Big Brother Ron, forgive me for leaving without saying goodbye.
This fire made me see many things clearly.
The Goa Kingdom is already rotten to the core, and my background is my original sin.
As long as I am on Mt.
Colubo for one day, this fire will sooner or later burn you.
Big Brother Ron, I will never forget your saying about using the falling sky as a blanket.
You let me witness what it truly means to reach the pinnacle.
But I cannot hide under your wings forever, being a burden who only knows how to call for help.
Not disturbing your days of sleeping and watching beautiful women is the only thing I can do now.
I am going to pursue my freedom.
I am going to the sea to write the greatest travelogue.
Ace, supervise Luffy for me and don’t let him stuff everything into his mouth.
See you on the sea.”
He put down the charcoal, folded the parchment, and pressed it under a chipped drinking cup.
Sabo pulled his signature top hat low and climbed out the window.
The night wind howled on the wild beach behind Foosha Village.
The tide was crashing against the reefs.
Sabo found a half-wrecked, stranded old fishing boat among the rocks.
The mast was snapped in half, and the black flag of the Bluejam Pirates that they had not had time to take down was still hanging on it.
He threw a few pieces of dry, hard bread he had swiped from the kitchen onto the boat, used his legs to exert force, and painstakingly pushed the boat into the sea.
He jumped onto the deck, grabbed the heavy wooden oars, and rowed desperately against the current.
The small boat swayed violently in the dark night, then gradually became a receding black dot.
It was also at this moment that the development of events still did not change its stubborn course.
Regardless of what changes had occurred earlier, certain specific things still happened according to schedule.
On the horizon at dawn, the thick fog gradually dissipated.
A huge ship cut through the waves, with the cross flag of the World Government hanging high on the mast.
On the wide deck stood the Celestial Dragons, wearing transparent bubble helmets and bulky protective suits.
That ship carrying the so-called creators was sailing straight toward the Goa Kingdom with an arrogant and overbearing posture.
The sun rose as usual.
Sunlight filtered through the cracks in the wooden cabin, dappling his face.
Ron narrowed his eyes, his fingertips sliding gently along the edge of Uta’s chubby cheek.
This little girl was the clingiest right after waking up.
She was smacking her lips, pouting in her half-asleep state, wanting a morning kiss.
The atmosphere was set just right.
Bang!
The door of the wooden cabin was kicked open.
The long-neglected door panel slammed hard against the wall, making a huge noise.
“Wah!
Big Brother!
Help!”
Luffy was crying his heart out, dragging two long trails of clear snot as he slid to his knees in front of the bed, half his body pressing onto the latex mattress.
Ace followed closely behind, his eyes red, teeth clenched, not saying a word.
He was clutching that piece of parchment, the veins on the back of his hand bulging.
The lips Ron had just leaned in with froze in mid-air.
Uta was startled by the commotion, quickly pulling the covers up, leaving only a pair of frightened, wide eyes exposed.
“Wailing first thing in the morning?” Ron rubbed his messy hair, his morning grumpiness from being disturbed rising up.
“Are you itching for a beating?”
Ace held the crumpled letter in front of Ron, his voice trembling.
“Big Brother, Sabo is gone.
He went to sea alone.”
Ron raised an eyebrow.
He snatched the parchment and scanned the sappy farewell message in one glance.
The whole thing could be summed up in one sentence: I don’t want to drag others down, I want to rely on myself.
That damn self-sacrificial spirit of a chuunibyou teenager.
“This stubborn little rascal.” Ron casually crumpled the letter into a ball and tossed it into the wastebasket.
“He has the good life of eating top-tier Wagyu and soaking in private hot springs every day, yet he insists on running off to this crappy sea to blow in the cold wind and drink saltwater.” Ron mercilessly started roasting him.
“Did a wild boar in the back mountain root around in his brain?”
“Big Brother!
Now is not the time to scold him!” Luffy was jumping around in place, anxious, his rubber arms stretched long, leaning back, desperately tugging on the corner of Ron’s blanket.
“There are so many man-eating monsters on the sea.
Sabo will definitely be eaten in one bite!”
Ace also stared fixedly at Ron, his eyes full of pleading.
“Big Brother, it’s not too late to chase him now.
With your speed, you can definitely bring him back.”
Looking at these two eager little brothers, Ron let out a long sigh.
He hated working overtime on his day off the most.
“What’s the rush?” Ron slowly lifted the blanket, let out a long yawn, and stretched his sore neck.
“Calculate the time.
That bunch of fishbowl-heads should be arriving in the East Blue soon.
With Sabo’s half-baked level, running into a World Government ironclad ship would just be pure suicide.”
Hearing the words “Celestial Dragons,” Ace’s face, which had been flushed red, turned deathly pale.
“Alright, stop wiping your snot on my new mattress.” Ron patted Luffy’s head with disgust, then grabbed a white shirt and threw it on.
“Let’s go.
We’ll go to the beach to stretch our muscles.
Consider it a morning workout.”
He turned his head and gave Uta a loud kiss on the forehead, making her shy again.
“Wait for me obediently.
When I get back, I’ll grill whatever you want to eat.”
Ron walked out of the wooden cabin with a lazy stride.
These two brats would have to pay off this debt today with a month’s worth of chopping wood and boiling water.
