Mi Ting!
Seeing the beautiful woman before him, Yang Xun froze in place. He never imagined that in the two years they hadn’t seen each other, Mi Ting had become so stunning.
At twenty-six, Mi Ting had impeccably delicate features: an oval face, slender, arched brows, and a pair of almond-shaped eyes that resembled a clear spring, gentle yet tinged with the unique allure of a mature woman.
Her skin was fair and her lips were a naturally pale shade. She wore no makeup, yet her beauty was so captivating it was hard to look away.
Her long, black hair was casually tied back in a low ponytail, with a few stray strands framing her cheeks, adding to her languid charm.
She was wearing a loose, light-blue T-shirt and white shorts. Though it was simple loungewear, her long legs and curvaceous figure made the outfit look like something a model would wear.
"Xiaoxun, quick, come on in!"
Mi Ting beckoned to him, ushering him into the house.
"Sister Mi Ting, where’s my sister?"
Yang Xun looked all around the moment he stepped inside, his face etched with anxiety.
"She’s asleep in the back room. Keep your voice down."
Mi Ting pointed toward the small room inside, her voice low.
Yang Xun strode to the door of the back room and peered through the half-open doorway, where he saw Yang Cai fast asleep on the bed.
The moment he saw his sister, the weight on Yang Xun’s heart was finally lifted.
Yang Cai had just turned eighteen. She had the pure, innocent look of a girl straight out of a manga.
On her small, palm-sized face, her features were perfectly exquisite. Her eyes were closed, but her long, curled lashes cast faint shadows on her cheeks.
Her skin was so fair it was almost translucent. Because of her long stay in the hospital, her complexion had a sickly pallor, but instead of detracting from her beauty, it gave her a fragile, heart-wrenching charm.
Her frame was somewhat frail. Curled up under a thin blanket, she looked like a small, helpless kitten, making one’s heart ache for her.
But even in her emaciated state, it was clear she had a naturally stunning figure. She had curves in all the right places; she had simply lost a great deal of weight due to her illness.
If she were healthy, she would undoubtedly be a peerless beauty capable of toppling nations.
’This silly girl...’
Yang Xun’s eyes grew red-rimmed. Looking at his sister’s pale face, his heart twisted in pain.
Just then, as if sensing his presence, Yang Cai’s eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.
"B-Bro... Brother?"
The moment she saw Yang Xun, Yang Cai started, and a look of panic and guilt flashed across her face.
She sat up with a start and lowered her head like a child who had done something wrong. "Brother, d-don’t be mad. I... I didn’t mean to sneak out..."
"Yang Cai!"
Yang Xun raised his voice, his tone severe. "Do you have any idea how worried I was? You ran out of the hospital by yourself in the middle of the night with your phone turned off! What if something had happened? Where was I supposed to look for you? Huh?"
"I’m sorry..."
Yang Cai kept her head down, her eyes instantly turning red. Large teardrops began to fall, her voice choked with sobs. "Brother, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have snuck out... But... but I really don’t want to stay in the hospital anymore... I’m so scared all by myself. Every day it’s just shots and medicine, with no one to talk to... And you don’t even visit me very often... I’m scared... I just want to go home..."
By the end, Yang Cai was sobbing uncontrollably. Her slender shoulders shook, looking like a child who knew she was wrong but was also overwhelmed with grievance.
Seeing his sister crying so hard, the anger in Yang Xun’s heart vanished without a trace.
In its place was a deep sense of guilt and heartache.
’It’s true, I’ve been too busy.’
’Between making food deliveries and dealing with all that crap from the Xu Family, it’s been a long time since I last visited her at the hospital.’
’An eighteen-year-old girl, all alone in a cold hospital room. No parents, no friends—just endless needles and medicine.’
’Anyone would break down in her shoes.’
"Don’t cry..."
Yang Xun took a deep breath, stepped forward, and pulled Yang Cai into a tight hug. His voice became incredibly gentle. "I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I’m the one who hasn’t been taking good care of you. I’m sorry."
"Sob... Brother..."
Yang Cai huddled in Yang Xun’s arms, clutching his shirt and crying like a three-year-old.
Yang Xun gently patted his sister’s bony back, his own eyes turning red, but he fought back the tears.
’I’m her big brother. I can’t cry in front of her.’
His father’s last words echoed in his mind again: ’Take good care of Cai Cai.’
"Brother, I don’t want to go back to the hospital. Can we please go home?"
Yang Cai lifted her tear-reddened eyes and looked at Yang Xun with a pleading gaze.
After a moment of silence, Yang Xun reached out to wipe the tears from his sister’s face and smiled. "Okay, we won’t go back to the hospital. I’ll cure you myself."
"Really?"
Yang Cai’s eyes widened in disbelief.
She had asked before, but Yang Xun had never agreed. ’Did the sun rise in the west today?’
"Really."
Yang Xun nodded firmly. Now that he had awakened the inheritance of the Medical Immortal and possessed the Rejuvenation Medical Scripture, he had the ability to treat his sister himself.
Besides, the hospital’s treatment plan could only slow the progression of her illness. To truly cure her cancer, he would need the Celestial Spirit Pill.
Rather than let his sister suffer alone in the hospital, it was better to keep her by his side. He could use his True Qi to condition her body and slow the illness while he figured out a way to gather the ingredients needed to refine the pill.
"That’s wonderful! Thank you, Brother! You’re the best!"
Yang Cai smiled through her tears, wrapped her arms around Yang Xun’s neck, and planted a kiss on his cheek.
"Hey, stop that. You’re a grown woman now."
Yang Xun felt his face flush. Though he feigned annoyance, his heart was filled with warmth.
Just as the siblings were talking, Mi Ting came in from outside.
"Sister Mi Ting, thank you for looking after my sister."
Yang Xun turned to Mi Ting. "But my sister can’t keep troubling you by staying here. I’m planning to give you five thousand a month for room and board..."
"Stop right there!" Mi Ting cut him off, looking displeased. "What’s this about room and board? When your father was alive, who fixed our roof when it was leaking? When my mom was sick and we couldn’t afford the hospital, who lent us the money? If it weren’t for Uncle Yang’s help all those years, I don’t know what would have become of my mom and me."
She looked at Yang Xun, her tone resolute. "Now Cai Cai is in trouble, so it’s only right for me to lend a hand. Don’t talk to me about money. If you do, you’re just insulting me."
"But..."
"No buts."
Mi Ting cut off any further argument, her tone leaving no room for debate. "Your house has been empty for too long; it’s damp and dirty. It wouldn’t be good for Cai Cai’s health. She’ll stay here. My place is big enough. We just need to add another bed. That settles it. Not another word."
Yang Xun opened his mouth to protest, but seeing the stubborn look in Mi Ting’s eyes, he knew it was useless to argue.
"Sister Mi Ting... Thank you."
He didn’t insist further, but he silently etched this act of kindness into his heart.
’One day, when I’m able, I’ll repay her a hundred times over.’
...
And so, Yang Xun and Yang Cai began staying at Mi Ting’s home for the time being.
Yang Xun didn’t go out to make deliveries that day. Instead, he stayed by Yang Cai’s side, knowing that what his sister needed most right now was companionship.
At noon, Yang Xun cooked a delicious meal himself.
In the afternoon, Yang Xun took Yang Cai for a walk around Xiaoxie Village, reminiscing about their childhood memories.
Evening came in the blink of an eye. After getting Yang Cai settled for the night, Yang Xun prepared to head out for his delivery shift. But as soon as he stepped into the courtyard, he heard Mi Ting talking on the phone in the next room.
At first, Yang Xun paid it no mind. But just as he was about to wheel his electric scooter out, he stopped dead in his tracks, an expression of utter shock spreading across his face.
’Holy shit!’
’Is Sister Mi Ting going to sell her virginity?’
