After a brief selection process, the seven items were distributed.
Each person took two, with the remaining one entrusted to Herohero for safekeeping.
Momonga was already carrying a World-class item: the red sphere at his chest.
Although it looked like a simple orb and a potential weak point, it was a genuine World-class item.
Anyone who attacked it without knowing its nature would suffer a devastating counterattack.
Herohero belonged to the Ancient Black Ooze race, the oldest of the slime species.
He possessed immense corrosive power, capable of dissolving even God-tier equipment.
However, his physical defense was relatively low, so he was given three World-class items in total.
(Note: Low defense does not mean low resistance!)
Naiyuan, on the other hand, was an all-rounder warrior who combined attack, defense, and speed.
Since his personal requirements for World-class items weren’t as high, he only took two.
Momonga received the Millennium Staff and the Wheel of Benevolence and Depravity, in addition to his original Red Orb.
Herohero received Ragnarok, the Heart of Fusion, and the Demon’s Gate.
Naiyuan chose Ouroboros and the Eternal Seal.
“This should do it.
Even if the NPCs stage a collective revolt, we can easily eliminate them now,” Herohero said with a sigh of relief as he looked at their equipped gear.
“I say, Little Hero, when did you become so cautious?” Naiyuan asked, curious.
The change in Herohero’s personality was startling.
If they hadn’t been chatting just a moment ago, Naiyuan might have thought someone had stolen his account.
This personality was even more “turtle-like” than the Momonga from the original story.
Momonga also pricked up his ears (do skeletons have ears?), as he was equally curious about the shift.
“Naiyuan, Momonga…
we finally managed to escape that dark society.
You can’t be too careful.
I don’t want to die suddenly for no reason, just like…”
“Little Hero, we should talk about the NPCs now!”
Just as Herohero was about to continue, Naiyuan interrupted him.
Herohero seemed to remember something and promptly shut his mouth.
Momonga watched them strangely.
It felt like there was a secret he wasn’t in on, but neither of them seemed inclined to tell him.
However, Momonga didn’t dwell on it.
Everyone had their secrets.
While he was curious, prying into someone else’s secrets was impolite, so he didn’t press the issue.
“Ahem, I think you should summon Albedo and the others, Momonga,” Naiyuan suggested after a brief silence.
“Eh?
Why me?
Either you or Herohero could do it,” Momonga instinctively tried to deflect, wanting the more reliable-seeming Naiyuan or Herohero to take the lead.
“Please, you’re the Guild Master.
From the NPCs’ perspective, you are the highest-ranking existence in Nazarick.
You carry more authority than us,” Naiyuan said, spreading his hands helplessly.
“Naiyuan is right.
Guild Master Momonga, you are the most suitable person to command the NPCs,” Herohero added in support.
“That…
that’s true, but you both know that my role as Guild Master was basically that of a mascot.
Leading people…
I really can’t do it!” Momonga protested weakly to his two friends.
“That won’t do, Momonga.”
Naiyuan looked at Momonga with a resolute expression, placing his hands on the skeleton’s shoulders.
He began a session of forced “chicken soup” and motivational speaking.
He had to give his friend a proper lesson today, or else how would he be able to slack off comfortably in the future?
“You have to realize that you are the Guild Master of Nazarick, the leader chosen by all of us.
Don’t think you aren’t capable; you have to believe in yourself.
The forty-two of us didn’t choose you for any other reason than the fact that with you there, everyone in Nazarick could stay united.
You have our trust.
You’ve managed Nazarick for all these years and done a great job.
You are completely qualified, so don’t let everyone down, Guild Master!”
“Guild Master, Naiyuan is right.
Don’t let our expectations down!” Herohero chimed in.
He didn’t want to deal with this sort of thing either, so he was happy to sacrifice Momonga to the cause.
“Ah!
Alright, I’ll try.”
Momonga, slightly dazed by the sudden influx of motivational platitudes, nodded and agreed.
“As expected of the Guild Master.
Then, without further ado, let’s begin.”
Seeing Momonga agree, Naiyuan nodded and placed his hand near his ear, activating a message spell.
“Albedo, you may enter.”
“Wait, I’m not ready—”
Momonga tried to stop him.
He hadn’t mentally prepared himself yet.
Did it have to be this fast?
“Lord, what are your orders?”
Before Momonga could finish, Sebas, Albedo, and the others walked in.
He had no choice but to shut his mouth and maintain a dignified facade.
Fortunately, as an undead skeleton, his face was unreadable.
For the first time, Momonga felt that choosing the Undead race was a truly wonderful decision.
“Sebas!”
Momonga’s voice was low and carried a faint air of majesty.
It startled Herohero and Naiyuan for a moment; they hadn’t expected him to put on such a convincing act.
“Your servant is here.”
Sebas stepped forward, stopping before Momonga and bowing deeply.
*He seems fine on the surface, but I still need to investigate further,* Momonga thought to himself.
“Go outside and investigate the current environment surrounding Nazarick.”
After some thought, Momonga chose to send Sebas to scout the surroundings first.
Since they had transmigrated, the area around Nazarick had likely changed.
Sending an NPC to scout was the best way to gather information for their next move.
Furthermore, he could observe the NPC’s autonomy and see if they could actually leave the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
In the game, NPCs wouldn’t leave the tomb and could only act within the base.
This was an important test.
“Your servant obeys.”
Sebas received the order and immediately turned to leave without a moment’s hesitation.
“As for the Pleiades, proceed to the first floor and assist Sebas in his investigation.”
“As you command.”
The maids standing in the corner also bowed and slowly departed.
As they were leaving, one of the maids with blonde hair couldn’t help but glance back at the figure standing silently next to Momonga, leaving with a look of reluctant attachment.
“Lord Herohero, it’s so good that you returned.”
Herohero seemed to feel the gaze and looked toward the maid’s figure.
“Solution?”
He watched her with a complicated expression.
She was the NPC he had created.
