“Word Bearers…”
Although Heydrich couldn’t see his gene-seed, just look at this Black Shield’s pious bearing.
There was not the faintest trace of fear in the face of death—only a yearning to return to the Golden Throne.
And what was even more fucked up was that Heydrich could feel that this one was clearly getting a bit BOKI.
In any case, by Heydrich’s reckoning, only the Word Bearers could be this deranged.
Take, for instance, a certain Contemptor Dreadnought who turned to Chaos because he couldn’t worship the Emperor, then after turning to Chaos discovered he still couldn’t worship the Emperor, and so crawled right back again.
“For the Emperor!!!”
But regardless, this was clearly all but the final battle for this group of people, so the three Astartes, together with Irena, all burst into a furious roar.
At this moment no one paid Heydrich any heed; they simply charged toward the eight World Eaters at the very front.
In an instant war erupted directly between the two sides.
Although the World Eaters had the blessing of the Blood God, these Deathwatch Black Shields were clearly veterans themselves; though fighting one against two, one against three, they did not give an inch.
As for Irena, she was frantically hacking down the Khorne cultists who came charging at her.
Knowing her own measure, she naturally did not rashly join the fight between Space Marines.
Only, this stalemate lasted less than a minute, because it was at this very moment that the Helbrute arrived.
This thing was meant to be the counterpart of the Dreadnought, though of course, owing to its crude make and the incompetence of its pilot, its combat power was just so-so and could not possibly compare to a true Dreadnought walker.
But against ordinary Space Marines it was still in a position of utter dominance—especially now that they were all tied up.
So in this very instant, Akel, in the guise of Alpharius, felt a black shadow loom over him.
Then a violent attack came smashing down upon him and his three opponents all at once.
To a Chaos Space Marine, the Helbrute was the most terrifying torture of all.
If a Chaos Space Marine knew that he was about to be entombed within a Helbrute, then his only recourse would be to kill himself outright and return to the embrace of his blasphemous masters.
Naturally, although the Chaos beast, once released, was kept in check by Chaos sorcery, that control was hardly precise.
The Helbrute’s mechanical legs hammered into the ground, each step kicking up debris mixed with bloody mud, and the stench—a blend of burning lubricant and rotting flesh—came rushing at the face like a solid wall.
In the place of its cockpit was embedded a mass of twisted flesh; one could no longer tell where the original pilot ended and the implanted tubing began.
All that could be seen was, on half a human face, the single remaining intact eye spinning madly, its pupil holding no reason—only pure agony and a hatred that longed to tear every living thing to shreds.
“Blasphemous traitor, be buried here together with me!!!”
At this moment Akel too chose to drag someone down with him, abruptly thrusting one hand forward.
At the cost of one of his own arms, he jammed that great axe fast, and then drove the chainsword he had drawn back straight into this Chaos Space Marine’s chest.
It was precisely such an attack that laid bare his own opening, and then the other two World Eaters came hacking at him as well.
The Helbrute, too, launched its attack at this moment; by now Akel had already resolved to face death.
But….
Squelch!!!
At this moment Akel simply felt an enormous force come from behind him, instantly yanking him out of the Chaos Space Marines’ killing blow.
Then he clearly saw the Chaos beast opposite and those two World Eaters all visibly freeze for a moment—but soon he, too, was stunned.
Because at this moment he saw that the one who had saved him from the hands of the Chaos Space Marines was none other than that mortal who had come down together with the Sister of Battle.
A mortal hauling him—clad in power armor—with his bare hands, and precisely dragging him out of the attack at that; at a single glance it was simply unbelievable.
Only, this momentary daze in battle, were it against a mortal, would be no great problem for Khorne Space Marines; but clearly what they faced was not such a being, but Heydrich, who was a Pathstrider.
So in this very instant, Heydrich had already rushed before him.
Then, with a high flying kick, he struck straight at one of the Chaos Space Marines’ heads.
Crack!!!
What followed was a crisp sound.
Had it been an ordinary person, even an Astra Militarum soldier, or even were the opponent also an Astartes, such a kick would not have been much of a problem.
But clearly what stood before him was Heydrich, and this mighty, heavy blow, combined with a Pathstrider’s super stats, kicked this Chaos Space Marine’s head clean off in a single strike.
At the same time, Heydrich used the momentum to rush before another Chaos Space Marine; the chainsword in his hand precisely pierced through the weak point of the power armor at his neck, and then, with one heave, it simultaneously destroyed both of his hearts and his gene-seed.
But because of such a motion the chainsword too became lodged in this World Eater’s chest, so Heydrich simply let go of it.
Then, pushing off this World Eater’s body, he leapt straight onto the Helbrute—so fast that the Helbrute had no time to react at all.
Now Heydrich was almost face to face with it, that twisted, massive, ugly face pressed nearly right up against his own.
“How disgusting.”
Looking at the Chaos Space Marine within the Helbrute, tortured until nothing remained but pure madness, Heydrich felt no inclination to pity.
He merely felt a wave of psychological revulsion; yet no matter what ran through his mind, Heydrich’s movements did not stop.
At this moment he seized that face with one hand, and then suddenly heaved with all his strength.
Crack!!!
Again a crisp snapping sound, and that enormous head—already corrupted by Chaos and fused with the cockpit—was forcibly torn free by him.
And the Helbrute’s massive body crashed to the ground at this moment, while that head, several times the size of an ordinary man’s, was held in his single hand.
Seeing this scene, never mind the group of Deathwatch Black Shields—even that group of World Eaters and the other nearly-mad Helbrute were stunned.
As for that group of Khorne cultists, they were even more utterly dumbfounded at this moment.
They had never witnessed such a shocking sight—two Khorne Space Marines and an even more terrifying Helbrute slain solo in an instant by a mortal who looked to be only a bit over one meter eighty.
At the same time, within the Warp, it seemed a gaze too was cast down.
But it quickly swept across the scene, then withdrew somewhat puzzled; clearly this one had seen jack shit.
These people were stunned, but Heydrich was not; he instantly snatched up the boltgun that the earlier ‘Alpharius’ had dropped on the ground, and then fired with precision at the remaining five World Eaters present and the big head of the last Helbrute.
“Please, call me Sly Marbo!!!”
Clearly, whether because of Khorne or because their heads had been corrupted by Chaos, these World Eaters were a beat slow to react, and were directly slain as the two remaining Deathwatch found their opening.
As for Heydrich, he thought all this to himself with a touch of wicked humor.
Then, as the group of Chaos Space Marines fell slain, that group of Khorne cultists, as though their very spirit had been drained out of them, scattered in a rout before the Emperor’s Angels and the existence of Heydrich—an existence even more incomprehensible to them.
Only, at this moment the three Astartes and Irena had no time at all to bother with that group of Khorne cultists—especially Irena, who could now confirm her own conjecture.
“You’re not Wells.
Just who are you?”
In this very instant Heydrich clearly felt one of the identities he had fabricated shatter outright, and at the same time that butler located in the spire-top instantly sensed something amiss.
Once the truth of the Path of Enigmata was discovered by another, everything that Enigmata had constructed might collapse.
Were it a meme-being, it would even die outright—but clearly Heydrich was no such thing, and he had already prepared ample contingencies.
“I am Alpharius!!!”
