At this moment, the Word Bearer Logan felt that the elder before him spoke far too truly—it even gave him a kind of blood-boiling exhilaration.

The Emperor had never claimed to be a god, and a true deity would not parade the word “god” on its lips day in and day out.

At least, from everything Heydrich knew, none of them were omnipotent—not even the Aeons.Full novel: Path of Elation in Warhammer 40K — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Can you get in contact with the hive?”

Soon enough Heydrich said nothing more, his bizarre, peculiar identity now confirmed.

By now Heydrich had, almost without anyone noticing, become the leader of this group.

After all, his current identity was that of a relic from the Unification era, and when an Astartes of that caliber spoke, unless a Primarch himself crawled up from the grave, no one could question his authority—provided, of course, that he didn’t pull any funny business.

“As of now this entire place is blanketed in Chaos corruption-code, and no messages can be transmitted at all.

And even if one were sent, it could end up distorted or corrupted—unless someone walks back on foot to deliver the message.”

The moment those words left his mouth, everyone exchanged blank looks, just like that messenger-runner from those anime cartoons.

A Chaos battlefield, much of the time, was fought like the trench warfare of World War II—indeed, the present bloodbath between Khorne and Nurgle had taken on a kind of medieval aesthetic.

Chaos corruption and corruption-code were everywhere, cutting off everyone’s long-range communications indiscriminately.

“But from what I understand, the Sector Governor and the Inquisition will, when necessary, abandon the under-hive and even the lower-hive.

As for the mid-hive, that will depend on the situation.”

“Mm…”

Hearing this, Heydrich remained outwardly unmoved, yet inwardly he was already clicking his tongue in private astonishment.

Because the entire world of Kuent held at least three hundred billion people, and this hive was the primary hive.

Its living population numbered a full hundred billion and more, of which the under-hive and lower-hive together accounted for at least seventy billion.

That was ten times the total population of present-day Earth, and just like that they had become acceptable sacrifices.

And this was only this one hive—one must remember that Kuent had a full five hives.

These hives were like malignant tumors driven viciously into Kuent’s underground, and they had likewise inflicted permanent, irreversible damage upon this planet’s environment.

If even Kuent’s core hive was in such a state, then the wastelands and the other hives didn’t bear thinking about.

Should they lose control completely, then the devastation wrought by the sacrifice of these hundreds of billions of souls would be nothing short of horrifying.

One could even say it was entirely possible that something like Angron or Mortarion might be dragged out into the world—so the Chaos here had to be dealt with, and fast.

Since the Sector Governor’s strength was already stretched thin, then for Heydrich—a man with flexible moral bottom lines who treated the Imperium’s rules as so much hot air—a bold idea still stirred in his heart.

“Come with me.

Since conventional means are useless, then we must employ some special methods.

In that case, come with me.”

Seeing that conventional means had failed, what remained was the time of the schemer-king to shine.

“Ancient sage, you mean those space Necrons?”

Hearing Heydrich’s words, Akel asked with a touch of hesitation.

Back then he too had mingled among the World Eaters and descended with them; at first he had not even noticed Heydrich.

It was only when he saw that the one who had whipped out the big guns and made to strike was not him alone that he realized this man, too, was an Alpharius.

As for why Heydrich had not seen through him, it was even simpler—not that his perception had been blocked, but that he simply did not recognize these World Eaters at all.

“Yes.

Within the tombs of the space Necrons there is generally a great deal of Blackstone artifice.

Back then the Emperor—forget it, it’s already been ten thousand years, there’s no point to it anymore.”

In order to steady these people into accepting his perhaps somewhat blasphemous methods, he deliberately invoked the Emperor’s name.

In truth, if it had been the Emperor himself, these blasphemous maneuvers of his would have meant nothing at all to him.

After all, if one defined blasphemy by the Imperium’s own standards, then the Emperor’s technique of creating Primarchs was the greatest heresy of them all.

Now that he had already put on the identity of Alpharius, Heydrich no longer needed to keep up appearances.

Although this place was some distance from the hive, one mustn’t forget the speed of an Astartes that he had at his disposal.

To the Astra Militarum, watching an Astartes move was like watching a slideshow; an Astartes’ base attributes were absolutely no joke.

Add to that the assistance of power armor—remember, by the lore, a Space Marine’s power pack contained nothing less than a fusion reactor.

So with the aid of the power armor, the group’s movement speed was naturally swift beyond compare.

Thus before long the group arrived near that Necron ruin, and the cave mouth still remained right where it had been.

“As expected, that bunch of World Eaters didn’t touch any of this.”

Glancing over the Necron tomb, Heydrich couldn’t help but think to himself—just about as he had guessed.

The World Eaters had not damaged the Necron tomb, which was, in fact, only natural.

For one thing, a Necron tomb would, to a greater or lesser degree, contain a Necron obelisk, and those things still had a strong suppressing effect against Chaos.

For another, since the target object had already been destroyed, then if you went rummaging about here again, you might truly rouse this band of space Necrons.

Even Chaos would get a headache at the sight—and besides, they weren’t the Mechanicus, they had no interest in grave-digging and tomb-robbing.

So when facing a space Necron tomb, it was best not to disturb them.

In any case, once they completed the sacrifice, this world would, to a certain degree, merge as one with the Warp, and by then even if these space Necrons woke up, they wouldn’t be of much use.

Blackstone artifice is not immune to the Warp—rather, it suppresses the Warp.

But that suppression has a certain magnitude, and beyond that threshold it becomes useless.

Of course, Heydrich had another use for it: using the power of Enigmata, just like those History Fictionologists, to directly rewrite the underlying code of those space Necrons.

As long as he dealt with the tomb’s overlord or its Phaeron, he could then attempt to manipulate these space Necrons.

Although Heydrich figured those things had most likely already slept themselves to death—after all, even this tomb’s protective mechanisms had failed.

Whether it was that they were simply too ancient, or that someone had carried something away, who could say.

Since the tomb was in such a state, then the Phaeron or overlord at its core was probably much the same.

And sure enough, before long…

“This should be the main tomb of the space Necrons.

Ancient sage, what is it we’re going to do?”

Being Deathwatch, with ample experience in fighting xenos, they soon reached the principal tomb base of the space Necrons.

At this moment, what appeared before them was a coffin that looked impossibly opulent, and lying within it was the master of this tomb.
