The hunt had begun.
Seraphis and her crew moved through the
darkened streets
, their footsteps silent as death. The Glass Alchemist was
no ordinary target
—he was a
specter of flesh and metal
, a being who reshaped
bone, sinew, and organs
like a sculptor working with clay.
If he was allowed to live, he would continue his
twisted artistry
, twisting men and women into
abominations
that defied nature itself.
Seraphis wasn’t going to let that happen.
This night,
the sculptor would become the shattered masterpiece.
The Glass Cathedral
The Glass Alchemist did not reside in a tower or a fortress. He had no grand mansion or hidden underground lair.
Instead, he worked in
a ruined cathedral
, a place once dedicated to worship but now a twisted
sanctuary of horror
.
Glass
littered the floor
in jagged pieces. Strange
organic sculptures
—human bodies fused with
molten crystal
—stood frozen in agonizing poses. Some were
half-formed
, their flesh still visible beneath the creeping spread of
glass-like veins
.
Elowen crouched beside one, pressing a gloved hand to its cheek.
"Still warm. These were people… not long ago."
Seraphis narrowed her eyes.
"Then we’re right on time."
From the depths of the cathedral, a voice echoed.
"Ah… visitors. And so soon? I must say, I didn’t expect you so quickly."
The shadows twisted, light refracting unnaturally as
the Glass Alchemist emerged
.
His body was
a shifting, glimmering mosaic
—fragments of mirrored glass fused to
pale, translucent skin
. His eyes were
black voids
, yet light shimmered beneath their surface like liquid mercury.
He stepped forward, the
clinking sound of glass on stone
filling the air.
"You’ve come to kill me, haven’t you?"
he asked, voice smooth as polished crystal.
Sylvaine twirled a dagger between her fingers.
"Clever one, aren’t you?"
The Glass Alchemist chuckled.
"I have seen many come to end my work. I turned them into my finest pieces. Would you like to see?"
With a slow gesture, he raised his hand, and the
statues in the room trembled
.
Then, with the sickening crackle of
breaking flesh and bone
, they
moved
.
The Battle Begins
The first
glass-forged abomination
lunged at Seraphis.
It was a
grotesque fusion of man and crystal
, its arms
elongated and jagged
, its fingers sharpened into
razor-like claws
. The remnants of a
human face
were frozen in a scream, embedded deep within its
torso
, its mouth opening and closing soundlessly.
Seraphis
dodged
, rolling beneath its strike as its claws
sliced through the stone pillar behind her
, carving deep
gashes
.
Another abomination leaped for Sylvaine, its
crystalline wings spreading wide
, reflecting the torchlight in dazzling yet horrifying patterns.
Sylvaine flipped backward, launching a
throwing knife
mid-air. The blade
embedded itself in the creature’s throat
, but instead of blood,
glass shards
exploded from the wound.
"Tch. They don’t bleed."
Elowen flicked a hand forward, a vial of
alchemical acid
sailing through the air. It shattered against the chest of a nearby monstrosity, and the creature let out a
hideous screech
as the acid
melted through the glass like ice in fire
.
But the Glass Alchemist merely laughed.
"How delightful. You actually know how to fight."
He raised a hand, and the
shattered glass from the acid-eaten abomination
lifted into the air, reshaping itself into
floating shards
.
Then, with a flick of his wrist, he sent them
hurtling
toward the assassins.
Seraphis barely had time to react as she twisted out of the way, but one of the shards
grazed her arm
, slicing deep enough to draw blood.
"Tch. He can manipulate broken glass at will."
Theia’s eyes
flashed
, her form
blurring
as she
vanished into shadows
, reappearing behind the Glass Alchemist with both daggers poised to strike.
"Got you."
She drove her daggers downward—
—but the Glass Alchemist’s body shattered like a mirror.
Theia’s blades
sliced through air
, and a fraction of a second later, the Glass Alchemist
reassembled
a few feet away.
"How quaint. Did you think I’d be so easy to cut?"
Seraphis narrowed her eyes.
"We’re dealing with someone who doesn’t have a body in the normal sense. He’s like… living stained glass."
Elowen’s grip tightened around another vial.
"Then we shatter him completely."
Breaking the Alchemist
The battle raged on, the cathedral a battleground of
light and glass
,
blood and steel
.
Seraphis weaved through the fight, her
metal playing cards
spinning around her like a
storm of razor-thin blades
. She sent one flying toward the Glass Alchemist—
—only for him to
catch it mid-air
.
For a moment, he examined it.
"Ah… metal infused with intent. Curious. But it won’t be enough."
He
squeezed
, and the card
began to crack
under invisible force.
Seraphis clenched her teeth.
"Break."
The card
exploded
, the force of the blast sending
jagged metal shards
deep into the Glass Alchemist’s
arm
.
For the first time, he let out a
pained hiss
.
"Oh? That actually hurt."
Seraphis
grinned
.
"Good. There’s more where that came from."
Elowen hurled another
acid vial
, this time
aiming for the Alchemist himself
.
The Glass Alchemist
darted to the side
, but Theia was already waiting, a
shadowy dagger
in hand.
She
drove it into his side
, the magic-infused weapon
disrupting his form
.
The Glass Alchemist
staggered
, pieces of his
body flickering
, struggling to maintain cohesion.
Sylvaine’s illusions flickered around him—
phantom blades
attacking from all sides, confusing his movements.
And in the center of it all, Seraphis dashed forward, both
twin daggers raised high
.
She
struck down
, her blades
burying deep into his chest
.
The Glass Alchemist let out a
shattered scream
as his form
began to break apart
.
"No… this isn’t how I end…"
Seraphis leaned in close.
"You’re not art. You’re just another mistake that needs to be erased."
She twisted the blades.
The Glass Alchemist
shattered completely
, his body breaking apart into
countless shards
, collapsing into a heap of
lifeless glass fragments
.
The fight was over.
The Final Blow
Seraphis exhaled, wiping the
blood from her cheek
.
Elowen crouched down, sifting through the
pile of broken glass
.
"No heart. No core. Just… pieces."
Sylvaine kicked at the shards.
"Good. One less monster in the world."
Seraphis smirked.
"One down. Four to go."
