Chapter 8 “Mr. He Yuan… he ran away.”

Shaking his head, Fang Gaomin said, “Actually, you’re quite good-looking. Many Alphas in our circle like your type, with a refined and gentle character. You would be a valuable companion. Here’s some sincere advice: if Fu Sheng marries an Omega, you can come to me. I have plenty of resources and can guarantee you a comfortable life.”Full novel: Pheromone Scam — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He Yuan chuckled. “It seems you’ve never brought a companion into your social circle.”

Fang Gaomin was indifferent. “They’re not worthy.”

He Yuan asked, “Is it because of their family background or because they’re all betas?”

Fang Gaomin immediately frowned. “Are you investigating me?”

He Yuan responded, “You were strongly opposed to Fang Ji being with Ji Chang. Did you think betas are greedy and would harm the pillar of the Fang family that you’ve worked so hard to cultivate? Or was it because you had ulterior motives towards that beta?”

Fang Gaomin’s jaw twitched as he glared at He Yuan. His thoughts drifted and he was almost pulled back to the past, the past he tried so hard to forget, the past that resurfaced while in detention, the truth buried deep within him, which He Yuan now casually revealed.

“How do you know Ji Chang?”

Ji Chang was the beta Fang Ji was in a relationship with, the beta who was burned to death.

Ji Chang was He Yuan’s older brother, who found the homeless He Yuan on the street and provided him with a home, a family, and an education. He nurtured him from a child who could have frozen or starved to death on the streets, who could have turned into a delinquent, into a university professor.

He Yuan was born without parents and had no idea how he grew up. Suddenly, at a young age, he was kidnapped but managed to escape and wandered to the capital city. Around the age of seven or eight, he walked barefoot on scorching ground into a tranquil neighbourhood, rummaging through garbage cans for spoiled food with stray cats. That was when Ji Chang found him and brought him home.

At fifteen years old, Ji Chang had just lost his parents but began taking care of a child unrelated to him.

Ji Chang, so gentle and kind, carried the burden of a child abandoned by others and chose to conceal the fact that he was pregnant, fearing that his impulsive younger brother would be harmed for defending him.

He Yuan emerged from distant memories and stared at Fang Gaomin. “At that time, Fang Ji no longer wanted Ji Chang. Whom he loved or married had nothing to do with Ji Chang. Ji Chang had already given up on Fang Ji and stopped bothering him. So why did you and your family still push him? You forced him out of the capital, even though he never left the city in his entire life. His home, career, and loved ones are all in this city, but you wanted him to leave? The Fang family is too domineering. It’s not enough to deceive Fang Ji’s body and heart; you and your family, along with Fang Ji’s Omega, are exterminated him. The entire Fang family killed Ji Chang.” This story is hosted at g.com.

Fang Gaomin turned pale, beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead. He trembled slightly and had a momentary hallucination. “I… I didn’t… we didn’t mean to… It was Ji Chang who refused to leave. He caused so much trouble before, clinging on and then suddenly saying he gave up. How could we believe him? He’s just a beta who doesn’t deserve an Alpha!”

Fang Gaomin’s voice became agitated and aggressive, but quickly took a sharp turn. “But I never wanted to kill him.”

Speaking softly, He Yuan said, “So you wanted him to be your lover, then.”

Fang Gaomin trembled all over, his gaze vacant, cold sweat pouring down, his lips trembling, fingers shaking uncontrollably. His eyes narrowed to a slit, clearly indicating that something was wrong with his state of mind. His mental defences were crumbling, and his sanity was on the verge of collapse.

He Yuan said, “That day, you and He Xingwen went to find Ji Chang. You got drunk and wanted to force yourself on him. Ji Chang resisted and accidentally knocked over the liquor cabinet, causing an electrical fire due to faulty wiring. You panicked and fled, watching the fire spread at the entrance, on the street, without going back to save Ji Chang. You were scared sober but lacked the courage to go back.”

Fang Gaomin shook his head in confusion.

He Yuan continued, “You despise betas, but all the companions you’ve had in recent years have been betas. So, is it guilt or simply wanting to try the beta that your elder brother was so fond of?”

Fang Gaomin’s expression turned fierce, his neck veins bulging, and he tightly gripped the edge of the table. He emitted an intimidating pheromone.

He Yuan, who had taken suppressants beforehand and was insensitive to Alpha pheromones, remained unaffected and looked straight at him. “Have you seen the broken Ji Chang? Covered in burns, no matter how many reconstructive surgeries he undergoes, horrifying scars will remain. Have you seen him, wrapped in bandages all over his body, with charred flesh mixed with blood and pus, in excruciating pain and unable to even scream? Don’t you have nightmares at night? Haven’t you dreamt of him coming for you?”

He Yuan took out several photos of burned patients. “Ji Chang looked like this too. He was in so much pain. His child, your nephew, was crying in the fire. Didn’t you hear?”

“Get… out…” Fang Gaomin squeezed out these words through his clenched teeth.

He Yuan said, “Fang Ji should be coming back soon. Once he returns, everything you painstakingly built will crumble. You can never surpass your brother, not in your entire life. Fang Gaomin, you’re a scum. Why don’t scum like you just die?”

“Get… out… Get out…” Fang Gaomin gasped heavily, resembling a mentally ill patient high on drugs. He trembled all over and suddenly exploded, roaring at He Yuan, “Get out—!”

He Yuan’s face showed terror, trembling in fear. This story is hosted at g.com.

The security robots in the coffee shop quickly received the instruction to protect He Yuan. They shocked Fang Gaomin, preparing to subdue him forcefully. However, after being electrocuted, Fang Gaomin suddenly entered an irrational state of rage, screaming hysterically, struggling against the security robots. Filled with fear, he ran out of the coffee shop as pedestrians panicked and cleared the way. At that moment, the traffic light turned green, cars streamed by, and a heavy truck raced forward, colliding with Fang Gaomin as he rushed onto the road, dragging him for about ten metres, leaving a trail of severed limbs and blood on the ground.

Inside the coffee shop, He Yuan watched the scene with an expressionless face. He put on his hat, tucked away the burnt photos he had downloaded from the internet, and quietly left amid the crowd.

Fang Gaomin died in a car accident, the kind that required his body to be taken directly to the crematorium. The Fang family was in chaos. Mother Fang became emotionally distressed and made a scene at the police station’s criminal investigation team, demanding the execution of the person who killed her son, insisting that someone had plotted to harm him.

The police informed her that the driver who hit Fang Gaomin was He Xingwen’s biological mother. Her son had been arrested, and the news of his death sentence had spread. The He family also collapsed. He Xingwen’s mother went insane. She had caused a scene at the Fang family’s residence before but had been kicked out. No one could have anticipated that she would resort to self-immolation.

“There’s one more thing we need to inform you. The investigation revealed that the truck driven by the culprit was loaded with a large quantity of smuggled raw jadeite materials from the border, which has some connection to the Fang family. Please cooperate with the police investigation.”

Mother Fang was stunned, alternating between crying and laughing, appearing completely deranged.

The He family, who was falsely accused, collapsed. Mother He sought revenge by killing her younger son, and the truck that killed her son turned out to be a lucrative source of income they had in their grasp. How absurd it was.

The Fu family also heard the news and only sent Fu Jiaqi to express condolences to the Fang family before discreetly distancing themselves from them. Upon hearing that Fang Gaomin was targeted for revenge, Fu Jing was scared into submission and cooperated with the police investigation.

With Fang Gaomin’s death, the raw jade material case stirred up waves again, and Fang Ji had to return to the capital with his wife and children ahead of schedule.
