At the back entrance of the Antique Street’s jade and gold jewellery store, several police cars blocked the narrow road, leaving only a pathway for a single person to pass through. Dozens of police officers surrounded the entrances and exits of the jade store, with Wang Yuanyao, the deputy director of the municipal police, leading the way. In front of them was a partially unloaded truck.

When Fu Sheng arrived, he saw Fang Gaomin engaging in a conversation with Wang Yuanyao. Taking a few steps forward, he overheard their conversation:Full novel: Pheromone Scam — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Fang Gaomin: “It seems like you have bad timing, Deputy Director Wang.”

Wang Yuanyao: “I think it’s neither too early nor too late, just right.”

Fang Gaomin chuckled, took a drag from his lit cigarette, and exhaled slowly. “My store operates legitimately and has all the necessary registration documents. The Bureau of Industry and Commerce can verify it. There’s no reason for you to seize this batch of goods from me.”

Wang Yuanyao: “We received a report stating that the origin of this batch of goods is unclear.”

Fang Gaomin feigned surprise and acted, “Really? This batch of goods was purchased from the southern part of Yunnan, and all the procedures are in order. Deputy Director Wang, would you like to have a look?”

Wang Yuanyao: “Certainly, I have time to take a look.”

Fang Gaomin’s expression momentarily darkened, and after a brief silence, he gave a subtle reminder, “The owner of this batch of goods is not just me. Deputy Director Wang, do you think it’s possible for you or the people behind you to offend those behind me?”

Wang Yuanyao: “It’s just the Fu family.”

Fang Gaomin’s heart sank instantly. Before he could speak, Fu Sheng strode forward and said in a cold voice, “The Fu family also abides by the law. Indeed, as Deputy Director Wang said, it’s just the Fu family.”

Wang Yuanyao turned his head and recognized Fu Sheng. His attitude, which had been unyielding in the face of Fang Gaomin, immediately changed. After all, Fang Gaomin was just a businessman and couldn’t compare to Fu Sheng, who held real power and even military authority.

He quickly put on a smiling face and greeted, “Major General Fu, I’m also just following the regulations. If I have offended you, please forgive me.”

Fang Gaomin sneered silently, mocking Wang Yuanyao for being an obedient dog, no matter how eloquent his words were.

“I also like to follow the rules,” Fu Sheng said softly, “If you can’t find out where this batch of goods came from, Deputy Director Wang, I’m afraid you will face administrative litigation and suspension.”

Wang Yuanyao forced a bitter smile, “I’m just doing what I should…”

The implication was that he was determined to investigate to the end.

Fu Sheng’s gaze pierced like a sharp blade towards Wang Yuanyao, who lowered his head to avoid it but stood his ground. The surroundings fell into a cold silence, and the air was filled with tension. Everyone was silent, instinctively holding their breath.

After about ten seconds, Fu Sheng relented, “Conduct the investigation here.”

Wang Yuanyao replied, “Major General Fu, the items need to be transported back for testing-“

“Don’t worry, Deputy Director Wang. I will have someone accompany you throughout the process, assisting the police in transporting the raw materials to the nearest testing facility, whether it’s for the testing of the raw materials or other joint inspection certificates.” Fu Sheng took the lead and entered the jade store, leaving one final remark, “It would be best to have it resolved before dawn. I believe in Deputy Director Wang’s abilities.”

Fang Gaomin followed behind Fu Sheng into the jade store, while Wang Yuanyao took a deep breath and wiped his face, fully aware of Fu Sheng’s intentions. All he could do now was to try to delay as much time as possible, allowing the mastermind behind the scenes to lay out their plans and entangle both the Fu and Fang families in the whirlpool.

Wang Yuanyao knew very well that even if the Fu family was entangled in the whirlpool, they couldn’t be truly harmed. His goal was simply to temporarily hold back the Fu family.

As soon as Fang Gaomin entered the room, he was kicked away by Fu Sheng, clutching his abdomen, blue veins and cold sweat appearing on his forehead. Despite the intense pain coursing through his body, he dared not cry out in pain at this moment, saying, “I don’t know why Wang Yuanyao has targeted this batch of jade raw materials, but I promise I have covered all the tracks.”

Fu Sheng looked down at him from a superior position, his icy gaze scrutinising him as if evaluating an object’s worth rather than a living person. “Fang Gaomin, as I’ve said before, I have no objections to you using the Fu family’s name to facilitate your own affairs outside. If you can borrow successfully, it’s your ability. Just make sure you can afford the consequences.”

Fang Gaomin dared not take a breath, let alone speak casually at this moment. Fu Sheng resembled a tyrant, where the end result mattered more than the process, and any mistakes or missteps would be ruthlessly wiped out without mercy. And this was the true nature of Fu Sheng.

As an exceptionally rare S-class alpha, belonging to a top-notch aristocratic family with boundless power within reach, it was enough to cultivate a capricious and arrogant tyrant. Furthermore, Fu Sheng had spent many years in the military, experiencing firsthand the loss of lives and earning his military achievements through battlefield combat. All these external factors predetermined Fu Sheng’s inherent nature as a ruthless and even extremely calm and selfish tyrant.

It was perplexing that someone like him, with such exceptional qualities, would marry an ordinary beta, which remained incomprehensible to this day and unrecognised by anyone as a valid marriage between Fu Sheng and He Yuan. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.

Fang Gaomin was well aware that in Fu Sheng’s eyes, their group of so-called friends held little value. The only reason they still maintained contact was because they all lived in the military compound, and their fathers and older generations often had interactions with Fu Sheng in official affairs, granting them some face.

“I assure you, really, you know I always handle things with caution. I guarantee that Wang Yuanyao won’t find anything.”

Fu Sheng asked, “This batch of raw jade materials is related to a border shooting incident. Tell me exactly what happened.”

Upon hearing this, Fang Gaomin couldn’t help but feel guilty and hesitantly narrated the entire process.

Initially, Fang Gaomin had been involved in several instances of raw jade material smuggling, each time passing through smoothly without any incidents or risks. However, this time was different. During the smuggling of the raw jade materials, the seller suddenly backed out and demanded a higher price. The two parties couldn’t come to an agreement and a dispute ensued. Unbeknownst to Fang Gaomin, the situation coincided with the presence of patrolling soldiers.

Faced with the situation, Fang Gaomin’s group promptly turned around and fled. The patrolling soldiers sensed something amiss and fired warning shots, but the group of Burmese-Vietnamese smugglers, in a state of panic, unexpectedly returned fire and killed two new recruits. Although the group of smugglers was apprehended and some were killed, it still brought about unfavourable consequences.

“It is indeed my people who were responsible for this transaction, but that place is usually not patrolled. Besides, smuggling is rampant at the border. Even if caught, the punishment is just fines and deportation. The heaviest penalty is imprisonment. As for confronting the soldiers with guns?” Fang Gaomin’s face darkened. “I only discovered the traces when investigating. Those smugglers secretly mixed drugs into the raw jade materials. Fu Sheng, I never touch drugs!”

Fang Gaomin was cautious in his actions, seeking only wealth, and would never get involved with drugs.

Fu Sheng coldly assessed the situation for a while before speaking. “Is anyone from the Fu family involved?”

Fang Gaomin mentioned several names, all of them from the younger generation of the Fu family.

Fu Sheng asked, “No one called Fu Jiaqi?”

Fang Gaomin shook his head. He had tried to involve Fu Jiaqi, but Fu Jiaqi firmly refused. Being a direct descendant of the Fu family, he was currently making his way up within the family and planned to rise to prominence during this reorganisation. He was extra cautious and couldn’t afford any mistakes.
