Just now, among all her senses, only the perception from her wood-type ability was the clearest. Looking at the five or six grapevines that had sprouted and divided, along with the clusters of grapes, Sang Chu couldn’t help but let out a laugh.

Sang Chu took out two more spirit jade stones and continued absorbing them.

Mu Xue sat idly in the kitchen, munching on watermelon and eating grapes, and even boiled a lot of chestnuts.Full novel: Picking Up Trash in Another World and Bringing It Back to the Apocalypse to Build Infrastructure — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Tu You hugged a bowl full of chestnuts and ate them one after another without stopping.

Mu Xue watched him eating with his mouth full of chestnut crumbs and couldn’t bear the sight. “Can’t you be a little more refined?!”

“Refined, my ass! Who was gobbling food down like a starving wolf earlier?!”

Mu Xue refused to admit it. “It was you! Definitely you! It was you, you big bald mutt!”

“Hmph!”

Tu You turned around with his back to her, and even childishly stuck out his red little butt and let out a loud fart in her direction!

“Are you insane?! I swear I’ll beat you to death, you mangy bald thing! Don’t you run!”

Furious, Mu Xue grabbed Tu You by his long ears, but his ears were too slippery—after a moment, he slipped away and flew off.

Tu You: “Give it up. Ah Chu said that before she and Lu Minfeng come back, you’re not allowed to go out! Bleh!!!”

“Hmph! I’m going into seclusion to cultivate!”

Under the eternal night and the blood-red moon, the ruined little town appeared especially ominous and terrifying.

Mu Xue was already timid, and after cultivating her spiritual strength, her hearing and sensitivity had increased. Hearing the zombies roaring around them and the wind howling through broken walls, she curled up in fear.

“Sang Xiao Chu, why can’t we turn on the hovercar or the optical-brain device?”

Sang Chu: “There may be survivors in this town. It’s best not to reveal these things in front of others.”

Before their wings were fully grown, they must not expose themselves so easily.

Otherwise, if others attacked them as a group, the three of them might not survive.

Seeing that Mu Xue was truly scared, Lu Minfeng said, “Xiao Xue, do you want to go back to the hovercar and stay with us from there?”

“No, I’ll follow you. Otherwise, if I suddenly appear later, how are you two going to explain it?”

Mu Xue clung tightly to Sang Chu’s arm, but the sounds around her surged relentlessly into her ears—horrifying.

She bit her lip, and her hands trembled even more.

Sang Chu: “Xiao Xue, what’s wrong?”

This wasn’t right. Mu Xue had always been timid before the apocalypse, and she was afraid of ghosts, but she had still gone out on missions over the years. She shouldn’t be this terrified.

Lu Minfeng also noticed and couldn’t bear to see her trembling like that. He softly asked, “Is it the noise?”

Mu Xue raised her head with difficulty, her eyes faintly red. She nodded. “It’s so loud… so scary.”

Lu Minfeng immediately covered her ears with his hands and looked at Sang Chu. “It should be a side effect from cultivating spiritual power. Is there any way to help her?”

Sang Chu looked at Tu You, who only shrugged. “I’m just a little utility spirit. I don’t understand the cultivation of you ability users.”

Sang Chu turned to Mu Xue, whose hands were still clutching her tightly. “Xiao Xue, can you keep going? If not, don’t force yourself. I’ll take you back first.”

Lu Minfeng: “Yes. You should go rest first?”

Mu Xue shook her head with difficulty. “I… I should get used to it soon. I can do it.”

She didn’t want to be a burden. Even though she said she wanted to hold onto Sang Chu’s rich golden thigh, one couldn’t truly survive the apocalypse by being a helpless parasite.

Lu Minfeng glanced at Sang Chu. “Should we rest for a while?”

“Alright.”

Sang Chu walked in front, one hand holding her golden longsword, while her other hand was held tightly by Mu Xue.

Lu Minfeng stayed beside Mu Xue, both hands still covering her ears. His earth ability spread cautiously over the ground around them. As long as anything stepped within a hundred meters, he would sense it through the soil.

Further ahead stood a large boulder.

Mu Xue sat down on it, panting heavily.

Suddenly—

She heard a faint cry for help.

The sounds around her were chaotic and overwhelming, and that cry for help was so weak it was almost nonexistent.

Lu Minfeng and Sang Chu were watching Mu Xue closely. When they saw her frown, they asked:

Lu Minfeng: “Xue’er, what is it?”

“Senior, did you hear anything?”

Lu Minfeng shook his head. Mu Xue turned to Sang Chu, who also shook her head. Mu Xue began to doubt herself. “Then maybe I heard wrong.”

Lu Minfeng: “Tell us what you heard. Maybe we just didn’t notice.”

Sang Chu: “Yes, say it.”

Mu Xue: “I… I think I heard someone asking for help?”

Even she wasn’t sure. Among the three of them, her ability was the least useful. If even Sang Chu and Lu Minfeng didn’t hear it, she was probably mistaken.

Sang Chu: “Should we go check?”

Lu Minfeng: “Yes. This town doesn’t seem to have zombies. It should be relatively safe. We should see who needs help.”

He hadn’t forgotten Sang Chu chose this town because it was their hometown. If Lin Muxue’s family was still alive, they would likely be here.

Mu Xue stared at Lu Minfeng in shock. “Senior, why would you say there are no zombies here? Didn’t you hear the howls?”

There were roars everywhere in the wind—so why did Lu Minfeng claim there were none?

Lu Minfeng was stunned and looked at Sang Chu, who was also confused. “Xiao Xue, you heard zombies?”

“Yes… you didn’t?”

Tu You flew to Mu Xue and circled around her before suddenly clapping his large ears and exclaiming, “I get it! She was originally a space ability user. After her power leveled up, she can hear everything within her space. It’s normal that you two can’t hear it because those sounds might not even be nearby!”

Mu Xue: “R-Really?”

Tu You: “Yep! Doesn’t it sound like the noises are directly stuffed in your ears and you can’t block them out?”

Mu Xue: “Yeah!”

“Then that’s it! Your power advanced. Your inner space must be much bigger now. Didn’t you notice?”

Hearing him say that, Mu Xue finally remembered she hadn’t checked her internal space ever since she got the space bracelet.

Now reminded, she looked inside—

Oh my goodness! It had doubled in size!

“Wow, it really is much bigger than before!”

She placed the space bracelet into her own inner space and found it far more convenient.

With the bracelet, she had to search item by item. But in her own space, everything was laid out clearly.

Only now did she see how much Sang Chu had actually given her.

But after a brief moment of excitement, Mu Xue shriveled again. “But what about these sounds? It’s too terrifying to keep hearing them!”

Tu You: “That I don’t know. Maybe there’s a solution, but I’m not a cultivator or an ability user. No idea how to fix it.”
