Sunlight filtered through the white sheer curtains, dappling the carpet with specks of light.

As the curtains billowed in the breeze, wind chimes tinkled musically.

The man’s scolding only added fuel to the fire of Wen Ran’s pent-up anger.Full novel: Playing Nice, Breaking Hearts — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She shoved him away with a force that sent Ize stumbling into the nearby vanity.

“Stay out of this!”

Wen Ran snatched a small bottle from the vanity and ran out.

Ize stood by the bed, clutching his hip where it had struck the vanity, his expression dark.

Hunter watched from the sidelines, his heart pounding in alarm.

He started to speak, but Ize silenced him with a raised hand.

“Get everyone out.

No one is to remain within a hundred meters of the main building!”

“Yes, Young Master.”

After Hunter left, Ize sighed and sat down on the girly, pink princess bed.

His broad palm gently smoothed the wrinkles on the bedsheets.

With his eyes downcast, it was impossible to know what he was thinking.

Meanwhile, Wen Ran burst into a room on the second floor.

Hearing the commotion, You Bufan started to get up, only to be forcefully shoved—or rather, pinned—back onto the bed.

Wen Ran straddled You Bufan, her small, soft hands seizing his chin as she dumped the entire contents of the bottle’s powder into his mouth.

Her movements were so fluid and fast that You Bufan didn’t even have time to react.

Wen Ran got off the bed and stood two meters away, toying with the Flood Dragon Pattern Soul Stone in her hand as she silently waited for the powder to take effect.

You Bufan coughed lightly.

“Miss Mite, what is the meaning of this!”

“I’m unhappy, so you don’t get to be either.” She desperately needed an outlet for her anger.

“What does your fight with Ize have to do with me!” ‘This is completely unfair!’

“I don’t care.

When I’m in a bad mood, even the air you breathe is wrong.”

You Bufan laughed in exasperation.

“You’re quite the tyrant, Miss Mite.”

‘It’s just some pain-inducing powder.

I’ve been forced to take so much of it growing up that I’ve long since developed a tolerance.’

‘Looks like the little kitten is in for a disappointment this time.’

Suddenly, You Bufan noticed something interesting.

His gaze landed on Wen Ran’s elbow.

“Well, well.

I never would have thought the grand heiress of the Mite family would need to ‘donate blood for a good cause.'”

At his words, Wen Ran instinctively covered the needle mark on her wrist.

‘How does he know?

Isn’t this something only the Family Head is supposed to know?’

You Bufan studied the girl’s face.

Aside from her cheeks, flushed red with anger, her lips—usually as vibrant as rose petals—were nearly colorless.

“They really did a number on you.

Let me guess… was it 300cc?

Or 600?”

Wen Ran shuddered.

“You…”

“You want to know how I found out?”

Their heated breaths mingled. This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.

You Bufan’s eyes darkened, his gaze fixed on her lips as he got off the bed and slowly advanced on her.

“Don’t tell me you’re thinking of kissing me,” Wen Ran sneered contemptuously.

You Bufan’s hand caressed Wen Ran’s exquisite face.

“Miss Mite is so beautiful.

Is it not natural for me to be enchanted by you?”

‘She glanced at the time on her Smart Brain.

The powder should be taking effect by now.’

Sure enough, You Bufan suddenly felt a scorching heat surge through his body, as if something was about to break free of its seal.

“You… what did you give me?”

“Just a little something to stimulate your Frenzy Value.

What, can’t handle it already?”

“Wen Ran!” You Bufan ground out, his eyes turning scarlet.

He shot towards Wen Ran like an arrow loosed from a bow, his hand reaching for her.

Wen Ran quickly squeezed the soul stone.

“Nghh—” You Bufan clenched his jaw in agony and collapsed to his knees.

A thick, masculine scent of mint rolled off his body in waves, making the temperature in the room drop by several degrees.

It also eased some of his body’s intense heat.

Fighting through the pain, he seized the girl’s slender ankle.

His cheeks were flushed and his forehead beaded with sweat, but his golden, slitted pupils were like frigid pools, radiating an icy chill.

The man’s cold, sinister expression reminded Wen Ran of the days she had been locked in the basement.

‘But now I have his weakness in my hand.

I won’t be afraid of him anymore.’

Wen Ran clutched the soul stone tightly, her manicured nails digging into its surface, but even that couldn’t make You Bufan release her.

Wen Ran was stunned.

He could actually withstand the pain from the soul stone.

Wen Ran tried to escape, kicking out at You Bufan’s shoulder.

Her weak kick, combined with the scent-laden slipper, only seemed to excite You Bufan further.

His breathing grew ragged, and his throat felt dry and itchy.

He couldn’t stop himself from wanting to get closer.

All the strength drained from Wen Ran’s body.

Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.

You Bufan seized the opportunity to pounce.

He quickly pinned the girl’s delicate hands above her head and sank his fangs into her slender, pale neck.

“Ngh…” His breathing grew even more ragged.

A sweet fragrance flowed into his throat along with her blood.

The sound of his own swallowing only made him burn with the desire to inject his pheromones into her.

Wen Ran’s breath hitched.

Her fingertips dug so hard into the soul stone that she could feel fine particles crumbling away.

As You Bufan recoiled in agony, she seized the chance to kick him off.

“You bastard, how dare you…”

“Get in the cage!” she threatened, brandishing the soul stone.

You Bufan chuckled, staggering into the cage and pulling the door shut behind him.

Wen Ran stomped her foot in frustration and stormed out of the room.

After she was gone, You Bufan pressed a hand to his lips, inhaling the scent of roses that lingered there.

He couldn’t control his hands.

They were restless.

Even the barbs on the cage digging into his flesh couldn’t erase the pleasure brought by her scent.

Wen Ran returned to her room in a fury, only to find someone sitting on the sofa.

Ize sat with his legs crossed, his dark gaze fixed on the reddened patch on Wen Ran’s swan-like neck.

“Why are you still here…”

Before Wen Ran could finish, Ize pulled her into the bathroom.

Steam filled the lavishly tiled bathroom.

The frosted glass door reflected two overlapping silhouettes.

A black and gold Lieutenant General Uniform was tossed on the floor, covering a white dress.

The young woman stood silently before the mirror, clad only in a white camisole.

“B-Brother…” Wen Ran stared through the mirror at the man encircling her, her voice trembling.

Ize’s cool hand brushed Wen Ran’s long hair away from her neck.

He leaned over her slightly, his muscular chest pressing against her back.

With a towel in hand, the man scrubbed at the bite mark again and again, quickly rubbing the delicate skin raw.

A stinging pain shot through her, and Wen Ran struggled.

“It hurts~”

The man clamped a hand around her waist, pressing her against the counter.

The cold surface made her shiver uncontrollably.

He seized her chin, forcing her head up.

In the mirror, Wen Ran could see the fury that now laced Ize’s cold, handsome features.

Ize’s warm breath ghosted over Wen Ran’s soft shoulders, his nose tracing the line between her neck and shoulder.

The dark, damp scent of a snake-beast clinging to her made his anger churn.

“Go.

Wash it off.”

Wen Ran nodded numbly and shut the frosted glass door of the shower.

Ize stood rooted to the spot, listening to the RUSH of the water.

A storm of gloom brewed in his dark eyes.

When Wen Ran finished her shower, she found Ize still sitting on the sofa, his thumb stroking the clan crest ring on his index finger.

“Brother.”

“Sit.”

Wen Ran didn’t dare refuse.

She timidly sat down two arm’s lengths away from Ize.

“Come here.”
