Aiden Shaw glanced at his watch.
“It’s getting late.
We should head home.”
The way he said it…
even Dean Miller from the orphanage was getting the wrong idea.
“No, thanks.
I’m staying here tonight to look after Mido.”
Dean Miller cleared her throat and stood up from the sofa.
“Laura, you should go home with your boyfriend.
I’ll be here to look after Mido, so you two should get going.”
“Thank you, Dean Miller.”
Aiden Shaw nodded his thanks to Dean Miller.
Before Laura could say a word, he took her hand and led her away.
…
Photos of Aiden Shaw shielding Laura Lowell at the hospital yesterday afternoon were published by reporters and quickly reposted across all major media outlets and online platforms.
Fans went into a frenzy, flooding the comments section of Laura Lowell’s social media page.
[So our Laura’s boyfriend is a doctor, huh?
He’s so handsome!]
[Okay, I admit it, I’m jealous.
Our goddess has amazing taste.]
[I don’t accept this!
No!
NO!
…How could he possibly be more handsome than me?]
[@ the guy above, you dare post a pic of yourself?
Let’s all be the judge of who’s more handsome.]
[I think I’m in love with this doctor.
I need to see him about an illness…
lovesickness.]
Laura Lowell casually scrolled through the comments, then turned off her phone.
“Mido, your surgery is tomorrow.
Are you scared?”
“I’m not scared.
Mama Miller said my brother-in-law will be doing my surgery, so it won’t hurt at all.”
“Brother-in-law?”
Laura didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
She gently pinched the little one’s cheek.
“He’s not your brother-in-law.
You should call him Dr.
Shaw.”
“But he’s your boyfriend, big sis.
So he’ll definitely be my brother-in-law someday.”
Mido’s eyes were especially lovely—dark and bright, framed by long, fluttering eyelashes.
“You can call me brother-in-law.”
Laura hadn’t noticed Aiden Shaw enter.
He was standing tall and elegant behind them.
Laura turned her head, her gaze meeting his deep eyes, which seemed to sparkle like brilliant stars.
A blush crept onto her cheeks unconsciously.
“Dr.
Shaw, what are you doing here?”
“I came to get you for lunch.”
It was already noon, so he’d made a special trip to get Laura for lunch.
“That’s alright.
Dean Miller isn’t back yet, and I need to stay here with Mido.”
Mido blinked their big eyes.
“You don’t have to stay with me, big sis.
Mama Miller will be back soon.”
“No way. Get faster updates on g.com.
I wouldn’t feel right leaving you in the hospital room all by yourself.”
Just as she said that, Dean Miller walked in carrying lunch.
“Oh, Dr.
Shaw, you’re here too.
Perfect timing!
Join us for lunch.”
“No, thank you, Dean Miller.
Laura and I are going to eat in my office,” Aiden Shaw politely declined.
“Alright then.
Laura, you go ahead and have lunch with your boyfriend.”
Laura murmured in agreement and left with Aiden Shaw.
Once they were out of the room, Laura glanced sideways at him.
“Why did you ask me to have lunch with you?
There’s no need to keep up the act for something like this, is there?”
“Right now, everyone in this hospital thinks you’re my girlfriend.
Aren’t couples who are madly in love supposed to be inseparable?
Unless you want to blow our cover.”
‘He said it so matter-of-factly, so righteously, and…
so reasonably.’
Laura pouted.
‘Would people really think something was wrong just because we didn’t eat lunch together?’
Back in his break room, Aiden Shaw told Laura to wash her hands while he leaned over and set out the food on the table—three dishes and a soup.
He had rushed home to cook it himself after finishing a surgery.
He’d even made her favorite: crawfish, already shelled.
When Laura came out from washing her hands, she walked to the table and sat down.
“Did you make all this yourself?”
