Chapter 18: How to Train Your Capitalist

Plugged In: Reincarnated As A Demon Lord (Now I'll Conquer The World)

The cavern trembles with the slow, volcanic rhythm of the dragon’s breath, rumbling from deep within the slumbering beast nestled atop the mountain of glimmering treasure.

Lucien stands again before the beast, squinting toward the curled mass of obsidian scales and claws the size of greatswords.

This time, he wears something a bit more resilient. Ash-woven trousers. Heat-treated boots. A new coat, charmed against combustion and a smirk that could make angels blush.

"Alright, take two," he mutters, patting soot off his sleeve.

Behind him, Veyra and Serenith stand at the mouth of the cavern, one staring with mixed dread and the other with open amusement.

"Are you really doing this again?" Serenith asks. "He incinerated your last outfit without blinking."

"Which is why this one’s fireproof." Lucien grins without turning. "Well, mostly fireproof, "Wish me luck."

"You’re insane," she mutters.

"I get that a lot." he says as he strides forward, boots crunching gently on loose coins, bones, and the occasional jeweled goblet.

The massive creature stirs. One eye, molten gold with a slit of eternal disdain, peels open and focuses on Lucien, who holds his head high and approaches the beast with measured steps, hands clasped behind his back. As he steps onto a pile of enchanted daggers and half-melted chalices, he stumbles slightly.

A laugh escapes the dragon with a deep snort, smoke puffing from its snout.

"Slippery footing." Lucien remarks with a chuckle, "Not quite OSHA compliant, I must say."

The dragon does not laugh again. Instead, the creature raises his head slightly, smoke curling from between jagged fangs.

"I’ve eaten men for so much as looking at what’s mine," the dragon growls, his voice deeper than thunder and older than nations.

"Same!" Lucien exclaims, "Well, not the eating part. But we’re more alike than—"

"The only reason you still breathe, Dark Lord," the beast cuts in with a snap of its jaws, "is because I sense what you are."

"Then I thank you for your gracious restraint." Lucien says, giving a slight bow.

"You have five seconds to turn around and leave." the dragon bellows, rattling every coin beneath him.

"Actually, I’d like to bargain for five minutes." Lucien counters, raising a finger. "If, after that, you still want me gone, I’ll walk out of here and seal up the mine. No tricks. No magic. Just you, your treasure and silence. Forever."

The dragon’s other eye opens. pupils narrowing to slits.

"Two minutes."

"Then I best not waste time." Lucien grins with a snap of his fingers.

He spins in place, conjuring a glowing chart of ash and cinders in the air beside him. Lines curve, peak, and dip like waves and stacks of tiny, shadowy coin symbols multiply along a translucent bar graph.

"You see," Lucien begins, "I am not simply here to rule. I’m here to rebuild. My vision is grand and sweeping. A rebirth of the demon empire, yes, but much more than that. An economy, a culture, an ecosystem... a future."

The dragon shifts slightly with interest, one eye sliding slowly a graph.

"We’ve already secured seven towns, begun construction on three, and our worker base has tripled in the last month alone." Lucien continues, gesturing with flair. "That’s not just conquest... that’s growth. Real growth. Scalable, sustainable, expandable."

The dragon’s gaze flicks toward the next chart, his head now a little higher, both eyes focused on Lucien’s presentation.

Lucien notices, smirks and doubles down.

"You may have heard rumors. Brothels? Yes. But not just pleasure. Commerce. Education. Infrastructure. We’re training smiths. Merchants. Engineers. I have elves working in metallurgy, succubi drafting housing codes, even angels helping with PR statements."

The dragon exhales through his nose. Less a snort and more of a curious puff as the fire at the tip of his tail flares slightly while Lucien changes to the next slide.

"Now let’s talk numbers."

Dozens of ash-screens bloom around him like petals. Graphs, pie charts, flow diagrams, and fiscal reports. All constructed in perfect glowing detail.

"Our current output versus projected demand shows a forty-eight percent surplus of raw ore, which we plan to funnel into weaponry, construction, and most crucially... exports. With your blessing, of course."

"Exports?" The dragon’s nostrils flare.

"Oh yes." Lucien nods. "Your mountain’s ore veins are practically singing. The deeper minerals alone could fund a three-decade war. And the rare caches? Mithral. Enchanted crystal. Embersteel. Your mountain isn’t just a home... It’s a treasure. Literally and figuratively."

The dragon raises a brow ridge, clearly intrigued despite himself.

"And you, great and terrible wyrm, could be more than a footnote in the restoration of demonkind. You could be a stakeholder."

Lucien flicks a final graph into the air, showing a massive upward curve with the label: ’Projected Wealth Accumulation Over 1000 Years – Dragon-Class Shareholder’.

"Profit share at fifteen percent starting, with incentives increasing at regular intervals based on haul volume. No labor required. No oversight. Just passive ownership of the mountain’s output. You get richer while doing absolutely nothing. Forever."

The dragon leans forward now slightly as coins slide beneath his claws.

"And what kind of returns would that amount to over, say... five centuries?"

Lucien grins, casting his shadow magic into a glowing set of equations. Numbers tumble like stars before a final figure appears.

"According to my estimates," Lucien mutters, "You can expect a minimum return of at least twenty-three billion crowns.

The dragon’s eyes flash, flames flaring across his irises as he stares at the final figure on Lucien’s projection.

"And that’s being conservative. We’re assuming steady trade, no kingdom-level embargoes, and a moderate war index of three-point-two." Lucien grins again. "So... thoughts?"

The dragon lets out a long, low, rumbling hum as it contemplates Lucien’s proposal.

"You are infuriatingly persuasive." He finally snorts.

"I try." Lucien beams.

The dragon exhales and chuckles. A deep, seismic sound that shakes gold loose from a nearby pillar of treasure.

"You have a way with words, Dark Lord. And numbers. What you propose is quite complex, and potentially very lucrative." He rises slowly, the sheer weight of his form cracking ancient stone beneath him as Lucien steps back slightly, his gaze lifting to meet the beast’s towering form.

"But," the dragon growls, "words are wind. Gold has weight. Show me who you really are."

He lifts one titanic claw and reaches toward Lucien, who doesn’t move an inch. The Demon Lord simply straightens his coat and keeps his eyes locked on the dragon’s gaze.

A claw the size of a wagon wheel extends, and with delicate precision, presses gently against Lucien’s forehead.

The world goes silent while Lucien’s brain pulses behind his eyes.

The dragon’s eyes widen. Then his claw slowly retracts as smoke curls from his nostrils, not in rage, but awe. His pupils dilate and his mouth moves slightly, as if tasting something on the wind.

Lucien blinks, staggering slightly. "And?"

The dragon doesn’t speak for a long moment. Then, slowly, he sits back on his haunches, folding his wings behind him.

"...You’re not just a demon," he murmurs. "There’s something about you. Something I’ve never seen before."

Lucien arches a brow. "I’ll take it as a compliment."

"You are dangerous." The dragon narrows his eyes. "That ambition of yours could crush kingdoms. Gods. Perhaps even me."

"Then it’s a good thing we’re on the same side now, isn’t that right?" Lucien smirks.

Another silence.

The cavern goes warm, pulsing with the dragon’s shifting thoughts. His tail swishes once behind him, stirring whirlwinds of ash.

Then the beast bellows a laugh that shakes the entire chamber.

"You have my interest, Dark One. And my investment. But if you waste my wealth, squander my time, or so much as let one worming thief near my hoard..." He leans in close, his breath like burning cedar. "I will not just kill you. I will devour your soul, and shit out your ambitions."

"Deal." Lucien smiles and claps his hands together, "I love this for us!"

Behind him, Veryra gasps, hands to her mouth in disbelief. "H-He actually did it?!"

Serenith groans, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"We live in a world where dragons have investment portfolios now."
