While Roy was chatting with Officer Jenny, the bored little candle-headed Litwick popped out from Roy’s shoulder.

Roy was actually a Trainer of Ghost-type Pokémon.

That explained why the Scar-faced Man had been so terrified.Full novel: Pokémon: Ghost Popularity System Made Me a Champion — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Officer Jenny did not react like the Bug Catcher or the Scar-faced Man; instead, she observed Roy’s Litwick.

The Jenny Family had a wealth of knowledge and understood all types of Pokémon.

During their training for every post, all Officers Jenny were educated, so she felt more curiosity than fear toward Ghost-type Pokémon.

She had previously handled several cases involving Ghost-type Pokémon suddenly appearing in citizens’ homes, even capturing them with Poké Balls before releasing them into the wild.

Furthermore, from the address on Roy’s ID card, she had already deduced that Roy was likely not an ordinary Trainer.

Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

The siren rang out.

A black and white police car screeched over and came to a steady stop not far from Roy and Officer Jenny.

The door opened, and another Officer Jenny stepped out, along with three regular police officers.

“Sister Liya, you really caught him.”

The Officer Jenny in the front ran up and linked arms with the Jenny named Liya.

So, was Officer Jenny’s name Liya?

“Stop fooling around; go take that Scar-faced Man on the ground back to the police station.”

“Yes!”

The four of them approached, immediately catching a foul odor, and saw the poacher who had been scared into incontinence.

They couldn’t help but wonder what exactly their captain had done to this poacher.

“Well, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be going.

I still need to catch my bus, and I’ll come back to claim the credit later.”

With that said, Roy intended to leave.

The main issue was that the bus to Rustboro City departed on a strict schedule and wouldn’t wait for anyone.

“Wait.”

Upon learning that Roy also needed to go to Lilycove City to take a bus to Rustboro Academy…

Officer Jenny mounted her Arcanine, shifted her body forward to make some space, and gestured for Roy to get on.

If Roy had to walk there on his own two feet, he probably wouldn’t reach Lilycove City until dark.

By then, let alone a bus, he probably wouldn’t even see a single person.

But just because Officer Jenny agreed didn’t mean the Arcanine agreed; it didn’t let just anyone ride it.

“Woof!”

“Please, Arcanine.

I’ll give you extra food when we get back tonight.”

Arcanine remained unmoved.

“Two extra meals.”

Only then did Arcanine reluctantly crouch down to let Roy mount.

After leaving behind the words, “I’ll leave this to you to handle,” Officer Jenny Liya commanded Arcanine to depart.

Watching their receding figures, the remaining Officer Jenny asked the three regular police officers, “Have you ever seen the boss let anyone ride her Arcanine with her?”

The three officers shook their heads almost in unison.

…

Sitting behind Arcanine, Roy experienced what it felt like to move at lightning speed, while completely unable to feel the heat of the flames on Arcanine’s body.

Smelling the faint, pleasant fragrance coming from in front of him, and feeling the atmosphere was a bit awkward, Roy initiated a conversation.

“Officer Jenny, how do you plan to deal with that person?”

The Officer Jenny in the front seat rolled her eyes; this wasn’t Roy’s business.

However, after thinking about it, she turned her head and made a throat-slitting gesture to Roy, saying, “Someone wants him dead.”

Good, let him die; a dead poacher is a good poacher.

After another round of awkward small talk, the silhouette of a massive complex appeared before Roy’s eyes.

This was the first time he had seen a city in the Hoenn region since he transmigrated.

Lilycove City.

With Officer Jenny’s help, Roy finally arrived in the city area.

Before entering, Officer Jenny instructed Roy not to let his two Ghost-type Pokémon out randomly, as it would easily cause panic—Roy knew the reason why.

The scale of Lilycove City was much larger than in the anime; the streets were packed with people, surging like a tide.

The Hoenn region was located in the southern part of the Pokémon world, where snow was basically never seen throughout the year, unlike the northern Sinnoh region, where it snowed all year round north of Mt.

Coronet.

Especially in the summer in coastal areas.

Many beautiful women on the streets wore very cool outfits, and Roy couldn’t look fast enough to take it all in.

Pedestrians on the road saw a young man on Arcanine’s back along with Officer Jenny and were curious about the boy’s identity.

However, there was no time to enjoy those sights now; Arcanine sped along with Roy and Officer Jenny.

When Arcanine arrived at the station with Roy and Officer Jenny, they found they were a step too late.

They were informed by the staff that the last bus had left an hour ago.

Seeing this, Officer Jenny took Roy back to the police station.

A Pidgeot, with mostly brown feathers, cream-colored body feathers, black markings around its eyes, and feathers on its head that were red on the sides and yellow in the middle, appeared in the plaza outside the police station.

Around the Pidgeot’s neck was the exclusive insignia of the League Police rank; this Pidgeot was a mount dedicated to the League Police.

“This is our police station’s dedicated aerial mount.

Tomorrow, you can have it take you to Rustboro City.”

Seeing that Roy didn’t speak, Officer Jenny thought Roy was afraid of heights and asked again.

“Ah?

Of course I’m willing!”

Roy was certainly willing.

He would save on the bus fare, get a Pokémon mount instead, and get to soar through the sky.

Furthermore, among all the regional birds, Pidgeot was the coolest in Roy’s mind, not to mention that its appearance improved by another level after Mega Evolution.

He had been so busy admiring Pidgeot’s appearance that he had forgotten to answer Officer Jenny’s question.

“Officer Jenny, I have one more request.”

“Speak.”

Roy suddenly leaned in close to Officer Jenny’s ear.

The warm, moist air from his mouth made Officer Jenny Liya’s ears turn bright red instantly.

But after hearing what Roy said next, Officer Jenny Liya turned back to look at Roy with a puzzled expression and replied, “It’s possible, but do you really need to add those three words?”

“Yes, they must be added.”

Roy nodded heavily; it only had meaning if those three words were added.

It was late.

Officer Jenny arranged for Roy to stay at the Pokémon Center for the night and set off the next morning.

The Pokémon Center was different from the games and anime; it was four stories high.

A huge red and white Poké Ball model hung at the very top of the Pokémon Center, which was quite similar to the games.

There were two guards outside the door who appeared to be League Trainers; guarding also earned points.

Roy followed behind Officer Jenny and entered.

Inside, it was more like a comprehensive office, with a treatment area managed by Nurse Joy, a League Store, a League Mission Reception Center, and a League Battle Detection Platform.

Officer Jenny walked skillfully to the treatment area to find Nurse Joy; it was clear they had a good relationship and were likely best friends.

During their conversation, Nurse Joy would occasionally cast her gaze toward Roy.

Thanks to Officer Jenny’s personal influence, although Roy didn’t have a League Trainer qualification, he was granted the privilege of resting at the League Center.

“Alright, you stay here tonight.

Come to the police station tomorrow to find the Pidgeot.”

Following Officer Jenny’s departure, a round, pink figure wearing a nurse’s white cap—a Chansey—came before Roy.

“Chansey, Chansey.”

Under Chansey’s guidance, Roy arrived at the room provided for lodging.

It was similar to hotels from his past life, and Roy lay down on the soft bed.

But he always felt this big bed wasn’t as good as his coffin lid.

However, Roy didn’t intend to sleep yet.

Just as Chansey was about to leave, he asked, “Chansey, do you know where the battle arena is?”

“Chansey, Chansey.”

Chansey thought for a moment, then extended its chubby little hand and beckoned for Roy to follow.

Because it was late, the entire 200-square-meter League battle practice room was empty; he was the only one there.

This shattered Roy’s plan to demonstrate Ghost-type Pokémon battle techniques to increase his popularity value.

Bored, Roy released both his Litwick and Duskull.

“Duskull, Litwick, next up is intelligence training!”

“Lit, no~~~”

“No” is impossible!

“This round, I’m the Landlord!”

Just like that, the human and his two Pokémon started playing Landlord.

That’s right, the intelligence training was just playing cards with Roy.

Before long, Roy had covered Litwick and Duskull with white paper strips.

“Chansey, Chansey.”

Chansey had not left the battle room but was sitting on the floor watching Roy and his two Pokémon play cards.

It seemed to find it very interesting.

Just as Duskull was about to play a 3, a chubby pink hand reached over, pointed at Duskull’s King, and signaled for it to play that one instead.

Roy found this scene quite amusing and asked symbolically, “Chansey, do you want to play a round?”

“Chansey, Chansey!”

Chansey pointed at itself, signaling, “Can I too?”

Roy nodded.

Subsequently, Chansey requested to join the game.

Its round body squeezed between the three of them, directly pushing Duskull out.

Seeing this, Duskull entered its Poké Ball to go to sleep one step ahead of Litwick.

It was unknown if Chansey was a genius in the card-playing world, but after watching just a few rounds, it already understood the rules of the game.

It even stuck a few white paper strips on Roy’s face.

Under Roy’s duress, Litwick had to cooperate with Roy’s telepathic communication, transforming from a peasant into a slave of the Landlord.

Before long, Chansey was covered in white paper strips, as if it were wearing a piece of clothing.

Chansey remained tireless; it seemed to be a bit addicted.

It played with Roy and the others until the early hours of the morning, until Nurse Joy kept calling for Chansey inside the Pokémon Center.

Only then did it realize that it had played too late.

It shook the little paper strips on its head, stood up reluctantly, and prepared to say goodbye to Roy and Litwick.

“Wait, Chansey.”

Chansey turned back to look at Roy, who had called out to it.

“This is for you.”

Roy collected the deck of cards, put them into a small wooden box, and handed it to Chansey.

“Chansey!”

Chansey looked at the deck of cards in its hands, looking at Roy in disbelief.

“It’s really yours.”

Seeing that Roy wasn’t pretending, Chansey was extremely happy and put the cards into the pouch on the front of its apron.

This way, even if Roy wasn’t around, she could still play cards.

Seeming to think of something, Chansey rummaged around in its pouch, but only managed to pull out a red Lansat Berry; it seemed it had nothing to give Roy in return.

This made Chansey feel a bit embarrassed.

“It’s not a trade, just keep it.”

Anyway, his two Pokémon didn’t really like playing, so it was better to give it to Chansey, hoping she could pass it on and carry it forward.

Finally, under Chansey’s insistence, Roy accepted the Lansat Berry.

What Roy didn’t know was that his actions would bring about various changes to the future of Lilycove City; a card-playing god was quietly “born”.

Opening the system panel, Roy found that his popularity value had increased by a total of 20 points today.

If he had known, he should have swaggered into the League Police station with the Scar-faced Man.

It was too late to regret it now; the person had already been taken away by the three rookie police officers.

The next day.

Officer Jenny Liya still had official business to attend to, so she bid Roy farewell.

Roy mounted the Pidgeot.

Unlike Arcanine, the Pidgeot was very obedient to Officer Jenny and took off into the air with Roy.
