Blastoise’s Mega Evolution.
[Ash]: AAAAAAHHHHHH I’M SO EXCITED!!!
[Gary]: What are you so excited about?!
You’re not the one Mega Evolving!
[Ash]: I CAN STILL BE EXCITED!!!
The brilliant light turned the entire battlefield into a sea of intertwined gold and blue.
Blastoise’s body began changing dramatically within the radiance.
Its shell grew thicker and sturdier, while the twin cannons on its back merged into a single massive cannon towering above its head, the barrel gleaming with a cold metallic luster.
The small brown shells on its arms expanded, each housing a compact cannon embedded within, tightening slightly as its muscles swelled.
Beneath its blue skin, every muscle became more defined.
Its already powerful limbs grew even stronger, easily supporting its increased weight.
BOOM!
The instant Mega Blastoise’s evolution was complete, the ground beneath it cracked outward in a spiderweb pattern.
It rose to its feet, all three cannons aimed directly at Steelix.
Blue energy gathered within every barrel.

Brock watched the scene in silence for several seconds before sighing.
“Misty and Asher Winter really handed me a difficult challenge.”
Then he smiled.
“But I can’t let the younger generation have all the spotlight.”
He pulled out his own Key Stone from beneath his collar.
Colorful light flared through the falling rain.
The Key Stone activated.
“Steelix, Mega Evolve!!!”
Steelix threw back its head and roared.
Its body became enveloped in dazzling multicolored light.
Energy surged along every segment of its spine.
At each joint, glowing blue hexagonal patterns emerged.
The short steel spikes lining its body stretched and elongated within the energy field, becoming crystal-clear structures that reflected rainbow-colored light.
Its already formidable armor became even denser.
Fragments of stone and metal broke away from its body, floated around it in the energy field, then reattached themselves once more.
As it swung its tail, the steel spike at the tip transformed into a razor-sharp crystal blade.
Every metallic scale shimmered with a chilling brilliance, as though its very body could cut through the air itself.

The two Mega-Evolved Pokémon stood facing each other from opposite ends of the battlefield.

On the battlefield, Brock made the first move.
“Steelix, Stone Edge!”
Mega Steelix let out a mighty roar.
The crystal spikes covering its body lit up simultaneously.
The next second, explosions erupted throughout the battlefield.
Not from one direction.
From every direction.
Countless crystal spikes, thicker and sharper than before, burst from the ground and converged toward Blastoise like a gigantic crystal flower closing its petals.
“Blastoise, use Rapid Spin and break through them!” Aoi shouted.
Mega Blastoise leapt into the air.
Its body spun rapidly, smashing every crystal spike approaching from the front into fragments.
The shattered crystals scattered through the rain, reflecting countless tiny lights.
It looked as though glowing rain was falling across the battlefield.
Brock remained calm.
“Interesting.
Steelix, Rock Blast!
Attack where it lands!”
Steelix slammed its tail into the ground.
A crack raced across the battlefield toward Blastoise’s projected landing point.
A molten red glow emerged from the fissure.
“Blastoise, Hydro Pump the ground!”
While still airborne, Blastoise adjusted its angle.
All three cannons fired simultaneously at the battlefield below.
The tremendous recoil dramatically slowed its descent.
At the same time, the exploding water created a massive curtain of spray that completely blocked Steelix’s vision.
By the time the water curtain dispersed, Blastoise had already landed safely on the opposite side of the battlefield.
Its three cannons were once again aimed directly at Steelix.
“Trying to engage a Blastoise in a long-range battle is not a wise decision.”
Brock pondered briefly before raising his head.
Steelix plunged underground once more.
The battlefield shook violently.
But this time, Aoi didn’t panic.
“Blastoise, fire Hydro Pump into the tunnel entrance!”
Mega Blastoise aimed all three cannons at the dark hole Steelix had entered.
Three powerful streams of water surged into the tunnel simultaneously, flooding the entire underground passage.
The water crashed through the rocky tunnels like rolling thunder.
A moment later, Steelix burst out from the ground on the opposite side of the battlefield.
Water dripped from every part of its body.
Liquid was still pouring from the gaps between its crystal spikes.
Clearly, the tremendous water pressure had disrupted its sense of direction underground.
Brock stroked his chin.
“Not bad.”
He nodded.
“Very clever.”
Then the smile vanished from his face.
“But being clever alone isn’t enough.”
“Steelix, Hyper Beam!”
Steelix opened its mouth.
A devastating beam of destruction shot straight toward Blastoise.
“Blastoise, use Hydro Cannon and push it back!”
Mega Blastoise’s main cannon and both arm cannons charged simultaneously.
The blue glow gathering at their barrels intensified dramatically.
All three cannons fired at once.
Three colossal streams of water merged together midair, forming a torrent even larger than Steelix’s Hyper Beam.
Hydro Cannon and Hyper Beam collided.
BOOOOM!!!
The two attacks struggled against each other for less than a second.
Then the overwhelming torrent of water completely swallowed the orange beam and continued charging toward Steelix.
Steelix swung its crystal-bladed tail in front of itself and blocked the attack head-on.
The heavily weakened Hydro Cannon struck its tail.
Only a faint white mark appeared on the surface.
Even after taking a direct hit, Mega Steelix remained virtually unharmed.
“Blastoise’s Hydro Cannon is undoubtedly powerful,” Brock’s voice echoed from across the battlefield, “but Mega Steelix’s defense isn’t something that can be broken so easily.”
Aoi stared at Steelix, which still stood as imposing as ever.
She bit her lip.
Rainwater dripped from her bangs onto the fist she had unconsciously clenched.
Then she took a deep breath.
“Blastoise…
charge in.”
Mega Blastoise froze for a moment.
It turned back and looked at her.
“Trust me,” Aoi said.
Blastoise nodded without hesitation and charged straight toward Steelix.
Brock frowned.
“Oh?
Giving up your long-range advantage willingly?”
Aoi didn’t answer.
She simply stared at Steelix while replaying the battle in her mind.
The armor covering Steelix’s body was its toughest defense.
Ordinary attacks couldn’t even leave a mark.
Then where else could she attack?
She kept thinking.
