Roy had unknowingly done Officer Jenny a tremendous favor.
The scar-faced man wasn’t just listed on the Hoenn Police Department’s wanted board.
He was also a cross-regional poacher who had illegally captured Pokémon from protected wildlife reserves in the Kanto region.
His team consisted of a Level 40 Weezing and a Level 45 Forretress.
Both Pokémon had mastered Explosion.
During the pursuit, the poacher had abandoned his Forretress after ordering it to use Explosion.
That sacrifice had created enough chaos for him to escape.
As for Weezing…
Its poisonous gas and explosive capabilities made it extremely dangerous.
Officer Jenny hadn’t dared let Arcanine get too close.
If Weezing detonated with Explosion or managed to poison Arcanine, the battle would become far more difficult.
And yet…
Such a dangerous criminal…
Had been captured by a teenager.
The more Officer Jenny thought about it…
The more unbelievable it seemed.
Roy smiled sincerely.
“No need to thank me.”
“I believe assisting Officer Jenny is the responsibility of every citizen of the Pokémon League.”
Officer Jenny blinked.
She hadn’t expected Roy to suddenly deliver such a passionate speech.
Still…
His words genuinely touched her.
If only everyone shared this kind of attitude…
Being a police officer had never been easy.
People constantly questioned whether she’d earned her position through her family’s influence instead of her own ability.
Few ever acknowledged the accomplishments she’d achieved through countless dangerous missions.
After handcuffing the poacher…
Officer Jenny suddenly caught a horrible smell.
Following the source…
Her eyes landed on the man’s completely soaked pants.
She finally understood why Roy had been covering his nose while talking.
The smell was truly unbearable.
She silently decided to leave transporting this prisoner to one of the rookie officers.
“Roy, was it?”
“You did an excellent job today.”
“This man led the raid on Lilycove City’s Pokémon Breeding Ranch a year ago and stole multiple Pokémon Eggs.”
“Three months ago…”
She listed crime after crime.
Roy couldn’t help raising an eyebrow.
“So he’d committed that many offenses?”
Then another thought crossed his mind.
“A criminal fearless enough to commit all those crimes…”
“Actually got scared by a ghost?”
He shook his head.
“Well…”
“A guilty conscience fears even imaginary ghosts.”
Roy handed over the poacher’s Poké Balls and Storage Bracelet.
As for the realistic human-face mask…
He quietly kept that for himself.
With his current strength…
There was no way he could control a Gym Leader-level Weezing.
Officer Jenny accepted the Poké Balls.
Then…
She extended her hand toward Roy.
“Huh?”
Without thinking…
Roy reached out and warmly shook her hand.
Officer Jenny froze.
She had merely been asking for something.
Instead…
Roy held her hand tightly while smiling at her with complete sincerity.
After a brief moment of awkward silence…
She sighed.
“I meant…”
“Your Trainer License.”
Roy blinked.
“…Trainer License?”
What Trainer License?
He had heard that new Trainers needed one before officially traveling.
But nobody had ever explained the details.
“You…
don’t have one?”
Roy honestly shook his head.
Seeing his confused expression…
Officer Jenny patiently explained.
“A Trainer License is the League’s official certification recognizing your abilities as a Pokémon Trainer.”
“Once you own two Pokémon that have both reached Level 30…”
“You can apply for the Beginner Trainer Qualification Exam.”
“Pass the evaluation battle…”
“And you’ll receive your license.”
“Licensed Beginner Trainers receive a monthly League subsidy of 2,000 Poké Dollars.”
“The same principle applies at higher ranks.”
“If you own two Pokémon above Level 40 and pass the League examination…”
“You qualify for a Gym Trainer License.”
“But don’t misunderstand.”
“That doesn’t make you a Gym Leader.”
“A Gym Leader must possess at least three Elite-level Pokémon.”
“And that’s only the minimum requirement.”
“A Gym Trainer License simply qualifies you to become an apprentice at an official Gym.”
“The League provides a monthly subsidy of 10,000 Poké Dollars.”
“If you own three Pokémon above Level 50…”
“And pass another League examination…”
“You’ll earn an Advanced Trainer License.”
“At that point…”
“You become one of the League’s core Trainers.”
“You’ll even qualify to apply as an official League Inspector.”
“The monthly subsidy increases to 100,000 Poké Dollars.”
As for Champion-class licenses…
Those were far beyond Roy’s current level.
Officer Jenny didn’t continue.
She added,
“Trainer Licenses also give you discounts at League Shops…”
“You can also accept League missions from Pokémon Centers.”
“Completing missions earns League Points.”
“Those points can be exchanged for items stored in the League Warehouse.”
“However…”
“League Points can only be used within the Hoenn League.”
“Of course…”
“The League doesn’t hand out these benefits for free.”
“Licensed Trainers also have responsibilities.”
“If an official League facility comes under attack…”
“Or if the League issues mandatory assignments…”
“Licensed Trainers cannot refuse.”
“I see.”
“So that’s how it works.”
Roy finally understood.
The Trainer License system was essentially the League’s method of attracting and organizing Trainers through a structured ranking system.
Unfortunately…
Both Litwick and Duskull were still two levels away from reaching Level 30.
Officer Jenny continued,
“Since you don’t have a Trainer License yet…”
“I can either compensate you with League currency…”
“Or temporarily record today’s contribution.”
“Once you obtain your Beginner Trainer License…”
“Come back to Lilycove City.”
“I’ll issue your League Points then.”
She paused.
“…Also…”
“You can let go of my hand now.”
Roy immediately released her hand.
“Sorry about that.”
Although…
The broad grin on his face made his apology far less convincing.
While Roy considered the options…
Officer Jenny offered one final piece of advice.
“I recommend choosing League Points.”
“They can always be exchanged for money.”
“But money can never be exchanged for League Points.”
“The decision is yours.”
After thinking it over…
Roy nodded.
“I’ll take the points.”
“I’ll come back after earning my Trainer License.”
The scar-faced poacher had been classified as a C-Rank criminal.
Capturing him normally awarded 500 League Points.
Thanks to Roy’s outstanding cooperation…
And perhaps because Officer Jenny genuinely appreciated how respectfully he had spoken…
She quietly used a small amount of her family’s discretionary authority to award him an additional 50 points.
Total Reward: 550 League Points.
According to Officer Jenny…
That was enough to exchange for an entire year’s supply of standard Energy Cubes.
Or…
If Roy continued saving…
Once he reached 2,000 League Points, he could exchange them for a basic Evolution Stone such as a Fire Stone, Water Stone, or Leaf Stone.
