Karl picked up the jug and drank it.
Honestly, he had no idea what his feelings toward the Sovereign were.
He felt gratitude toward the man and, at the same time, a deep respect.
Due to this, he knew he had to stop whatever feelings he had toward Neil before the marriage.
He mustn’t embarrass the Sovereign because of his irrelevant feelings.
However, when he heard Neil’s words, his heart ached terribly.
He wanted to cry, yet he knew it wasn’t worth it.
He had always known that Neil looked down on him.
Even though he had been renowned as the most beautiful Ger in Salibion, his parents’ being untalented had always been a stain on him.
Everyone looked down on him and believed whatever child he gave birth to would probably be a mere mortal, too.
Karl clenched his fist and drank the wine.
If drinking the wine would break the unfortunate fate he had with Neil, then he would drink it.
He would drink it all.
After tonight, he would no longer have anything to do with Neil.
He would officially become the sovereign’s cultivation partner.
He drank so much to stop himself from crying, and when he dropped the jug of wine, his eyes had turned blurry, and his head was a little muddled.
He stood up to leave.
He had finished the wine.
It was time to leave and prepare for the next day’s grand wedding.
That was when someone grabbed his hand.
Karl’s vision flipped.
He opened his eyes and realized he’d been pinned down.
Laughter rang around him.
Derisive.
Curses.
People seemed to find nothing wrong with Neil tearing through his robes with a ferocious smile on his face.
Karl struggled.
But in front of Neil, who was at the peak of the Sky Level, he was practically a chicken.
His hands were pinned down, and his robes were removed.
Before he lost consciousness, all he remembered was that Neil had carried his naked self into a room and closed the door from behind…
Karl gasped loudly.
His legs weakened, and he fell backward.
A strong arm wrapped around his waist, steadying him in place.
“Careful.”
Varek’s pleasant voice entered his ears.
Karl’s body began to tremble.
Anger, fear, and confusion clouded his gaze as he looked around until his gaze settled on Neil on the ground.
He released himself from Varek and rushed toward Neil.
He grabbed the man’s robe.
“Tell me, did you do anything that night?!”
“Did you touch me?!”
He had never felt this way all his life.
How could someone be so wicked?
How could he be so ruthless?
All that the original Karl wanted was to end things cleanly with him.
He didn’t even love Karl, so why did he still do that to him?
The feeling was so deep and unsettling.
It felt so much like he’d been the one to go through that moment.
Just like when he remembered his wedding with Varek, the event with Neil had felt so much like his own.
The fear.
The anxiety.
How it had shaped his life even after marriage.
The guilt whenever he looked at Varek.
Then…
the overwhelming fear Karl Dawnspire felt the day he suspected he was pregnant…
All the memories had returned to Karl.
That day, he had almost lost his mind when he realized he might be pregnant.
He had been scared.
He had been worried that the child might be Neil’s.
He had refused food, and for a moment, he felt like he was about to go crazy.
Then…
Karl held his head and groaned.
It seemed like that was when he crossed over.
However, everything was starting to feel strange.
Karl no longer understood.
He tightened his hold on Neil.
“Answer me!”
Neil glared at him.
“I did…”
Karl’s body turned cold.
Blood spurted out of Neil’s mouth, and his face turned even paler.
“I didn’t.
I didn’t do anything!” He screamed with the last energy he could muster.
“The Sovereign rescued you.”
“I ran away when I felt his presence.
I didn’t do anything to you.”
Karl slumped backward.
He was suddenly caught.
He rested his back against the solid chest behind him.
His chest heaved violently.
The relief was like a tsunami, threatening to break him apart.
He turned around and hugged Varek tightly.
“Thank you.
Thank you very much.”
He had been really scared.
The fear had almost consumed him.
Fortunately, Neil hadn’t touched him.
He hadn’t betrayed the one person who had helped him.
He hadn’t betrayed his Sovereign.
He hadn’t carried another man’s child…
Varek held him back.
Karl closed his eyes and breathed slowly.
A few minutes later, he opened his eyes and confusion clouded his gaze.
‘What was that?’
Karl shook his head.
‘Stealing the body is bad enough.
Now, I’m even planning to steal the memory?
This is bad.’ He had never believed himself to be evil.
Yet here he was, trying to own another person’s memory.
Karl took a step back and returned his gaze to Neil.
Yes, it was Neil’s fault.
Karl Dawnspire died because of Neil!
“You’re so despicable, Neil.” Karl’s voice had turned calmer.
“I don’t know what made you think you could look down on others.
But you should also know that loving you back then was an honor to you.”
“You don’t deserve…
me.
And you’ll never deserve me.”
He held Varek’s hand and took a step back.
“Punish him, Varek.”
Neil whimpered.
“Hm.” Varek nodded.
He moved his hand slightly, and a golden line of light left his fingers.
It hit Neil’s head.
“Ahhh!!!”
Neil cried out in pain.
Varek released Karl’s hand and held his waist.
“Let’s go.” He murmured.
Karl gave one last glance to Neil, whose struggle was weakening by the second.
By the time he turned around, Neil had stopped breathing.
He was dead.
Karl’s eyes turned cold.
He felt absolutely nothing.
Even though it was his first time witnessing death, the man at the run-down building couldn’t be counted.
Such beasts didn’t deserve his sympathy in the first place.
Karl paused.
Wasn’t Neil the same as that man?
He was even worse.
He cost the life of a person!
Karl’s eyes turned colder.
Neil had died too easily!
He should have waited until he was stronger and killed Neil himself.
However, it was too late.
Instead, he would grow stronger and make sure no one ever had the chance to look down on him again.
He raised his head to look at Varek.
Seeing the man also looking at him, Karl smiled.
“Take me home, Varek.”
