“In novels, they have things like beginner’s gift packs and stuff, right? Do I get one?”

Wang Bing blinked her clear eyes at the System and asked earnestly.

The System’s physical form was just a pink ball of Marshmallow. It bounced in midair, then dropped a large red bundle.Full novel: Qing Dynasty Transmigration: Just Getting By in the Imperial Harem — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Wang Bing reached out to catch it. The moment her fingers touched the bow on top, the bundle came undone on its own.

A whole lot of things came tumbling out.

“So this is what they call a loot drop?”

As an internet-addicted young woman, Wang Bing was very satisfied with the way the Items were dispensed.

It had quite a sense of ceremony.

She picked them up one by one to take a look.

“Heh, a Fertility Pill.”

The three large characters on the white porcelain bottle caught her eye.

“This really is the proper way to start a Qing Dynasty Transmigration System. It’s not Qing Dynasty Transmigration unless you have a son.”

Wang Bing knew the tropes well. “Next, there’ll definitely be a Daughter-Bearing Pill and one for boy-girl twins.”

The System made no comment on Wang Bing’s muttering.

It was all an old routine. The System knew that too.

Sure enough, Wang Bing found a Daughter-Bearing Pill and a pill for boy-girl twins.

Looking at the three pretty porcelain bottles in her hands, Wang Bing was torn.

“Hey, System, where am I supposed to put these?”

The pink ball of Marshmallow bounced over the “loot” scattered on the ground. Wang Bing followed it with her eyes.

She casually picked up a small box that Marshmallow had bounced over. She flicked open the lid, and a shower of colorful stars flew toward her.

“That’s the pocket dimension you unlocked. It’s not very big, but there’s no problem storing things in it.”

The System didn’t seem surprised. But were pocket dimensions really something you could just unlock?

Wang Bing now had good reason to suspect that the world she lived in might be headed for an apocalypse.

But the System didn’t say anything more, and Wang Bing didn’t ask.

Since she was being asked to do missions and save up money and gear, that meant she still had time to prepare.

Wang Bing shook her head, setting her wild imaginings aside.

Then she continued looking over the gear still scattered across the ground.

There were beauty pills, body-enhancing pills, postpartum recovery pills, Wisdom-Opening Pills, health-boosting pills, life-extending powder, and so on.

“Are beginner benefits really this good?” Wang Bing was stunned.

Wasn’t this trope going a bit wrong?

Other people’s Systems couldn’t wait for their Hosts to earn points and buy things.

Why had her System just handed her all the gear outright?

It made Wang Bing feel like she really could do this.

“Is our System on the level?”

Wang Bing asked a little cautiously. It wasn’t that she was imagining things—the System had given her far too much.

This was nothing like the miserable stories she’d read about heroines leveling up and fighting monsters.

Marshmallow explained helplessly, “Our System exists not only to help mission-takers, but also to collect different stories.”

Wang Bing was shocked. This System really wasn’t very proper.

“The Doctor who developed me is a very eccentric person, but also extremely socially anxious. He loves bizarre plots and romance, but personally hates interacting with strangers.

That’s why he’s still a forty-year-old virgin.

But he’s already read all the existing plots and literary fiction he can stand. So I came into being. My purpose is to help him collect stories.”

Wang Bing was shocked!

“Your Doctor has some pretty unusual interests, huh?”

That was the most absurd reason she’d ever heard for a System’s existence.

As a System without emotions, Marshmallow didn’t think there was anything wrong with it.

“Doesn’t he want antiques or anything? Doesn’t he need me to bring things back?” Wang Bing was baffled. Such an enormous fortune was right there in front of the Doctor! How could he care only about stories?

Marshmallow wobbled. “You can’t bring back too much. It could cause a miniature world to collapse, since the items aren’t products of that world.”

Wang Bing understood. She couldn’t bring back too much.

Which meant the Doctor had already brought back plenty of contraband.

Great. They weren’t just the protagonists of stories; they were antique smugglers too.

“Let’s get to work. Otherwise, I won’t feel right keeping this money.”

Looking at the bottles and jars neatly arranged in her pocket dimension, Wang Bing was full of anticipation for the job.

“All right. First mission: Kangxi’s Consort Hui, Ulanara.

First, protect your eldest son, Chengqing.

Second, make sure your second son, Yinzhi, lives a peaceful life and becomes a Prince who enjoys wealth and honor all his life. Don’t let him get involved in the dangerous struggle for the throne.”

Most of what Wang Bing knew about Yinzhi came from TV dramas and novels.

Only then did she realize she was a clueless, naïve college student.

She’d completely forgotten all her history lessons!

Still, she knew the struggle for the throne. It was all over the novels.

The System didn’t waste time either. It sent Wang Bing straight over.

Wang Bing’s vision went black, and she lost consciousness.

When she woke up, a reddish-brown canopy was above her. Her hands were neatly folded over her chest.

Her sleeping position made her look just like a vampire who’d just been taken out of a coffin.

Before Wang Bing could make a snarky comment, the System promptly sent her the memories, silencing her.
