It's incredibly challenging to grasp the concept of time here.
I decided to take a break from studying and explore the old House of Hades.
This place is enormous, a labyrinth of stone and shadow that seems to shift when you're not looking directly at it. I've visited the garden, which has become my favorite place aside from my mother's sanctuary. The air there hangs heavy with the perfume of night-blooming flowers that shouldn't exist, their petals luminescent in shades of silver and deep violet. The lounge is cozy in a way that defies the Underworld's reputation all plush cushions and warm amber light from braziers that never need tending. The training yard echoes with the sounds of clashing steel, a rhythmic percussion that reverberates through the stone floors and into my bones, reminding me that even in death, warriors still seek perfection.
My mother mentioned that there were a couple of hot springs tucked away in the deeper chambers, suggesting I go relax and let the mineral waters ease whatever tension a soul could carry.
I grabbed a soft white robe from my chamber, the fabric whispering against my skin like a secret. The material was impossibly fine, woven from something that felt like silk but moved like liquid moonlight. I decided to venture to one of those hot springs, though I had only the vaguest sense of direction.
"Turn here, make a left… here," I muttered to myself, my voice echoing off the high stone ceilings adorned with frescoes of forgotten myths.
"I think I should go down this way… here," I reasoned, pausing at an intersection where three corridors branched off into darkness, each one looking identical to the last.
I chose the middle path, then second-guessed myself.
"You know what? I actually have no idea where I'm going!" My admission bounced back at me from the walls, mocking.
As I guessed my way through the halls like a bat in the night, trailing my fingers along the cool stone to keep my bearings, I finally caught a glimpse of something different tendrils of steam rising from behind a transparent red curtain that seemed to glow from within, backlit by some ethereal light source. The air grew warmer with each step, humid and fragrant. A few steps forward, and I cautiously pushed aside the curtain, the fabric sliding across my palm like warm water.
"Wow!"
The word escaped my lips as a breathless whisper. The chamber before me was nothing short of paradise carved into the Underworld itself. The steam wafting from the water carried the delightful aroma of herbs and spices rosemary and lavender, cinnamon and something else I couldn't name, something ancient and intoxicating with a hint of mineral salt that reminded me of the sea I'd never seen. The pool itself was vast, its edges irregular and natural, as if the gods had simply found a hot spring and decided to claim it rather than build one from scratch.
The greenery was breathtaking. Vines heavy with dark leaves cascaded down the walls, their tendrils dipping into the water's surface. Flickering glowing bulbs of flowers some kind of bioluminescent bloom dotted the foliage like captured stars, pulsing gently with soft blue and green light. Little glimmers of what appeared to be actual starlight danced over the surface of the spring, though we were deep underground. The ceiling above was lost in shadow and steam, giving the illusion of infinite space. The sound of water trickling from some hidden source created a gentle melody that seemed to resonate in my chest.
I had found the right place. More than that I felt like I'd stumbled into somewhere sacred.
I slowly undressed, folding my clothes with unnecessary care. I slipped into the white robe, which just barely covered me, the hem falling to mid-thigh and the neckline dipping low enough to make me feel exposed. It would discourage anyone from gawking at my nudity, but only just. The fabric clung to my curves in a way that felt more revealing than concealing.
I approached the water's edge, where smooth stone gave way to the pool. I dipped a toe into the water, and heat shot up my leg. "Ohhh, that is hot!" I gasped, pulling back instinctively.
"It would be better if you just jumped right in," came a sudden voice from the steam smooth as honey, and rich as wine.
"EPP!!" I yelped, jumping back and pulling my robe tighter around myself, my core pulsating against my ribs. My eyes darted through the steam, trying to locate the source of the voice, but the mist was too thick, swirling in lazy patterns that obscured everything beyond a few feet.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't know someone was in here…" My voice came out higher than intended, embarrassment flooding through me. Of course someone else would be here. Of course I'd barged in like a fool.
"Oh, that's fine. It gets boring being here alone," the voice replied, and I could hear the smile in it, warm and inviting and somehow knowing.
I squinted, trying to make out the figure in the steam, but all I could see was a vague silhouette, curves and movement and the suggestion of something beautiful. "Maybe I should come closer for you to get a better view," she teased with a playful lilt in her voice that sent shivers down my spine despite the heat.
As the steam parted or perhaps she commanded it to part she moved deliberately through the water toward me. The first thing I saw was her hair, flowing through the water like strands of pale pink silk, each strand catching the light from the glowing flowers and reflecting it back in shades of rose and coral. Then her face emerged from the mist, and my breath caught in my throat.
Her sun-kissed skin was a perfect shade of golden bronze, luminous and flawless, as if she'd been sculpted by an artist who understood beauty on a fundamental, cosmic level. Water droplets clung to her collarbones, her shoulders, the swell of her breasts just visible above the waterline. Her curves exuded confidence, every movement fluid and purposeful, sending a clear message: You can look, but don't touch, or you might never let go.
But it was her eyes that truly captured me. They shimmered like pink diamonds, multifaceted and impossibly deep, holding centuries of secrets and desires. They seemed to see straight through me, past my awkward exterior and into the parts of myself I barely understood. I found myself flicking my gaze up and down so many times eyes to lips to the elegant column of her throat to the water lapping at her skin and back to those knowing eyes that I nearly became dizzy.
There was only one person I knew who could be this beautiful, this commanding, this utterly divine Aphrodite, goddess of love and desire herself.
"You might want to close your mouth, darling; don't want it to get stuck that way." Her voice was amused, affectionate even, without a trace of mockery.
I shook my head, blinking several times, trying to restart my brain. "I-I am so sorry." Heat flooded my cheeks that had nothing to do with the steam.
"It's okay, little Veil," she laughed, and the sound was like a serenade, like bells and birdsong and something fundamentally enchanting. It wrapped around me, making my knees weak.
She splashed some water playfully in my direction. "Come on, relax. Get in! I promise I don't bite." She paused, her smile turning wicked. "Unless you ask nicely."
Every instinct was at war within me one part urging me to run, to flee back to the safety of my chambers and the familiar comfort of my books, while another part of me, a part I didn't fully recognize, tempted me to jump in, even if it meant risking everything. Even if it meant drowning in those pink diamond eyes.
"Ahh, yes. I think I shell…" I managed, my voice barely above a whisper.
"That's the spirit!" she encouraged, holding out her hand to guide me. Her fingers were elegant, nails perfectly shaped, and when I took her hand, her skin was impossibly soft and warm, warmer even than the water.
I let the robe slip from my shoulders, suddenly not caring about modesty, and stepped into the pool. The heat enveloped me immediately, almost overwhelming, but Aphrodite's hand steadied me as I descended the submerged steps. As I sank into the hot spring beside her, the water rising to my shoulders, I sighed deeply. "Yes, this is very relaxing..."
She nodded, simply watching me with an amused smile, her gaze appreciative but patient. She settled back against the smooth stone edge of the pool, giving me space, letting me adjust.
I closed my eyes, soaking in the warmth, trying to ignore the fact that a goddess was mere feet away from me. Every ounce of tension in my body seemed to melt away, dissolving into the mineral-rich water. Oddly enough, I wasn't sore at all I hadn't realized I'd been carrying any physical discomfort but it felt as if my skin was absorbing the very essence of the herbs infused in the water, drawing them in like a plant draws in sunlight. My muscles went liquid, my breathing deepened.
The minutes passed in comfortable silence, broken only by the gentle trickle of water and the occasional ripple as one of us shifted position. I let myself drift, my mind going blissfully blank.
Suddenly, I don't know when it happened or how it happened whether I'd lost track of time or she'd moved with divine silence but there she was, standing right behind me, her presence a wall of heat at my back. Her breasts pressed against my shoulder blades, soft and firm, and I could feel every inch of her body aligned with mine. My eyes flew open wide.
"Is everything " I started to ask, my voice cracking.
"Shhhh… just relax, she murmured, her breath warm against my ear, sending electricity down my neck.
I felt her hand trace the contours of my back, fingers gliding along my spine with deliberate slowness, following each vertebra. The touch was both soothing and electrifying, making my skin hypersensitive. Everywhere she touched felt like it was waking up for the first time, nerve endings sparking to life.
"How does that feel?" Her voice was lower now, intimate, meant only for me.
"It… it feels okay..." The words were inadequate, but my brain couldn't form anything more coherent. It felt like more than okay. It felt like I was being unmade and remade with each stroke of her fingers.
She made a soft sound of amusement, somewhere between a chuckle and a hum, and the vibration traveled through her chest into my back. The sound seemed to bypass my ears entirely and sink directly into my bones, making my mind melt. It felt as though my ear had drowned in sweetness, in honey and wine and something addictive.
Her hands continued to trace my back, moving in slow circles, kneading gently at knots I didn't know I had. The rhythmic sound of water echoed around us the soft splash as she moved, the gentle lapping against the stone edges, the distant trickle from the hidden source pulling me deeper into a trance-like state of bliss. I felt her hand glide from the center of my back to my shoulder, fingers spreading wide to cover more skin, then slowly down my arm, leaving trails of tingling warmth. Her hand came to rest on mine, and her fingers laced through mine, squeezing gently.
I arched my head back into her touch without thinking, my body responding before my mind could catch up. My neck exposed, vulnerable, offered.
"There you are… let the water surround you; let me surround you…" Her words were hypnotic, each syllable carefully chosen, and I felt them sink into me like stones into still water, creating ripples that spread outward.
My head tilted back further, my wet hair plastering against her shoulder and neck, and I rested there, feeling the steady rise and fall of her breathing. She was so warm, warmer than the water, as if she generated her own heat from within.
"Such a good girl..."
The words hit me like a physical force. Hearing that being praised by her, being called good by the goddess of love herself sent tremors through my body, waves of something I couldn't name coursing through me. It was pleasure and pride and submission all tangled together, and it made me want to be even better, to earn more of those words.
She lifted my hands with hers, our fingers still intertwined, and guided them to my own body. Together, we traced the lines of my waist, her hands covering mine, directing the movement. The sensation was strange and intoxicating touching myself but feeling her touch at the same time, unable to separate where I ended and she began. We trailed upward along the contours of my abdomen, fingers splaying across my ribs, feeling them expand with each increasingly rapid breath.
"Good girl…" she whispered, and then pressed a gentle kiss to the side of my neck, her lips soft and warm and perfect.
I nearly sank into the water, my legs threatening to give out beneath me, going boneless. Only her body behind me kept me upright, supporting me. She made another sound, this one pleased and teasing. "Mwah…" The exaggerated kiss sound made me shiver despite the heat.
My chest began to rise and fall rapidly, my breathing shallow and quick, as she guided my hands higher, our joined fingers trailing through the water between my breasts. The anticipation was almost unbearable. When we finally reached the peak of my breasts, she encouraged me to touch, her hands pressing mine against my own flesh, showing me the pressure she wanted.
"Mwah… oh god, whatever is happening to me, I don't want it to stop..." A moan escaped my lips, surprising me with its intensity, echoing off the stone walls. I'd never made a sound like that before, so raw and needy.
"Mmm, what a good girl you are..." Her voice was thick with approval, and I felt her teeth graze my earlobe, a gentle scrape that made me gasp. With one gentle squeeze of my breast her hand over mine, my nipple hardening into a tight peak that ached for more attention.
My back arched involuntarily, pressing my body more firmly against hers, and my hair, now completely wet, became entangled with hers, pink and white strands weaving together. The water sloshed around us as she turned me with surprising strength, spinning me to face her. Our eyes locked, pink diamonds meeting my own wide, uncertain gaze, and I felt pinned in place, unable to look away even if I'd wanted to.
Her face was inches from mine. I could count her eyelashes, see the faint freckles across her nose, watch the way her lips curved into a knowing smile.
"Tell me what you want..." It wasn't really a question. It was a command wrapped in velvet.
My lips brushed closer to hers, drawn by some magnetic force I couldn't resist. My chest was racing, my core pounding so hard I was sure she could feel it through the water. "I want "
"Say it…" Her hands found my hips beneath the water, gripping firmly, possessively.
"I want…" But the words stuck in my throat. What did I want? Everything? Nothing? To run? To stay? To let her consume me entirely?
She kissed the hollow of my neck again, this time with more pressure, more intent, and I felt her tongue trace a line up to my jaw. Shockwaves radiated from the point of contact, making my toes curl against the smooth stone bottom of the pool.
"Say it…" Her voice was more insistent now, demanding.
My mind was spiraling, thoughts fragmenting. This is Aphrodite. A goddess. This can't be real. This is too much. I'm not ready. But I want I want
"I... I have to go..."
