Chapter 8. Shattered Voice

Queen of Damnation: The House of Souls

As I feel something profound wrap around me, like the comfort of a warm blanket on a frigid winter day, huddled in front of a flickering fireplace my memories begin to dissolve into a dense fog, the sharp agony within me remains, like a relentless predator consuming my very being. Despite the soothing embrace surrounding me, I feel the deep sorrow within my core.

Why do I feel this weight of sadness?

I claw through the remnants of my memory, desperate to recall names that once echoed, only to find them snatched away like whispers in the wind. "Let me out," I whisper to the shell that confines me, aware that it is the fragile barrier holding my existence together. Yet I no longer care; I want to break free. I want to return to a time before this torment a time when I could seek retribution against those who cast me into this abyss. It’s not fair. IT’S NOT FAIR! The question loops ceaselessly in my mind: why did they do this to me?

Vivid images flash before me, a blurred face sneers as it drives me to the ground; another figure looms over, sword poised to pierce my throat; and one simply stands watching from the shadows, indifferent. I catch a glimpse of a tear cascading down the cheek of yet another hazy visage. Why is she crying? Why… why… why?

My thoughts spiral into a cacophony of despair, the only clarity coming from the searing pain in my chest, like poison coursing through my veins. I recall the glint of light reflecting off a blade as it descended toward my skull.

I can’t breathe. LET ME OUT!

And then,

silence.

There… right there… a faint light flickers in the corner of my vision. She ran to me just before my head tumbled away like a discarded weed. The only face I can see clearly is hers, beautiful and ethereal. Her eyes, the color of a clear sky, embody an angelic charm, while her cascading blond hair flows like ocean waves around her. Why can I cling only to her image while everyone else fades into nothingness? That question torments me: why? Why? Why?!

I CAN’T TAKE THIS ANYMORE! Something wails within me, a primal scream reverberating through my chest, unable to contain this sorrow, this sadness, this pain… THIS…

His back arched violently as a wave of power surged through his body. Every muscle trembled beneath his skin, as though something ancient was being awakened from deep within his soul. He clutched at his chest, fingers digging desperately into his heart, while an eerie blue light pulsed beneath his skin like rivers of liquid starlight.

The transformation spread rapidly. His fingers lengthened, becoming more slender and elegant, while black claws formed at their tips, sharp enough to carve through steel. His frame shifted with unnatural grace, bones and muscles reshaping themselves into something both delicate and terrifying. Pale skin the color of moonlit ivory replaced the last traces of his mortal complexion, giving him the appearance of a spirit carved from marble.

His white hair cascaded down his back in silken waves, growing longer with each passing moment until it flowed around him like a living veil. Strands drifted weightlessly through the air despite the absence of wind, shimmering faintly beneath the emerald glow surrounding him.

Then his eyes snaps opened.

A brilliant teal radiance burned within them.

For a moment, it looked as though the waters of the River Styx itself flowed through his irises, ancient and endless. The power contained within that gaze was both beautiful and unsettling, carrying the weight of countless souls and forgotten sorrows.

As the transformation reached its conclusion, an overwhelming aura spread throughout the chamber. Strength coursed through his newly formed body, not the crude strength of warriors or kings, but something far older and far more profound. He stood between life and death, beauty and terror, mortal and divine. Every detail of his appearance seemed impossibly perfect, as though the gods themselves had sculpted him from moonlight, sorrow, and starlight.

The crystal casing begins to tremble, each passing second fracturing the foundation of my prison. Thin shards splinter outward, echoing the turmoil brewing within me.

“WHY?! WHYY?! WHYYYYY…”

The sound of a wail erupts from deep within me, a haunting cry that reverberates to the very core of the crystal. With one final, shattering scream, the crystal container fractures, splintering into a myriad of jagged shards that glint ominously in the dim light.

The explosion is deafening; shards erupt outward like shooting stars, scattering in all directions, while a shimmering burst of energy radiates from the center. I feel the rush of air surging around me as the solid walls of the crystal collapse in on themselves. It’s as if the very essence of my being has shattered free, unleashing a tempest of raw emotion.

In that chaotic moment, I gasp for air, drawing in the freedom that had been denied to me for so long. My lungs burn, and I inhale deeply, desperately sipping in the new-found essence of life that fills the space around me. But that breath is fleeting; the exhilaration of liberation is swiftly overtaken by an overwhelming stillness, a calm after the storm.

And then, silence returns. Hanging suspended in the air, the remnants of the crystal twinkling like fallen stars around me. The burden of sorrow still clings, but now, it feels lighter somehow, as though I am finally on the brink of uncovering the truth I had sought for so long.

POV: Hecate

The sound pierced the air like crashing glass, sending a shiver of fear racing through my core. I feared that the one soul I claimed to look after so passionately had shattered, perhaps beyond repair.

My servants were still supposed to be tending to matters while I attended to this, but as the urgency gnawed at my thoughts, I couldn't stand idle.

With a graceful twist of her wrist, She vanished into the seeds of darkness, reappearing almost instantly in her sanctuary.

The sight before me took my breath away. There, in the ethereal glow, lay the embodiment of beauty and perfection. Her skin was a delicate shade of ash, seemingly capable of being blown away with a mere breath. Her figure an exquisite blend of curves was potent enough to incite wars or foster peace. Everything about her possessed a fragile strength.

As I stepped closer, the air around us shimmered with the weight of her presence. My gaze was drawn to the crown that floated above her head, its hue as rich and deep as the ichor that flowed through my own veins with reverence, I reached out, sliding my finger gently across her delicate cheek, astonished by the transformation she had undergone.

"What a wondrous flower you have become," I whispered, my heart aching at the sight of her. Her skin felt like ice against my fingertips, cold enough to freeze anything it graced. I could see the traces of sorrow that had marred her beauty; the faint stains of tears lingered under her eyes, testimony to the anguish she had endured. Just then, a single tear slipped from the corner of her eye, and my heart tightened.

“It’s okay… I promise it will be okay,” I assured softly, wiping the tear away with my thumb, letting the warmth of my touch linger. “Once you awaken, I promise you will have the strength to find the answers to your 'why'… My Daughter.”
