25 – The Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Role of the Aristocratic Family Twenty-Five
Jiang Huai noticed his flustered expression and spoke gently to reassure him, “No, there’s no misunderstanding! But since I just attacked your database, I should apologize!”
Gu Yunze thought how incredibly wonderful his Huai Huai was. At this moment, he desperately wanted to hold her.
After setting aside her computer, Jiang Huai stood up and stretched.
Gu Yunze rose and gently wrapped his arms around her slender, soft waist from behind. Jiang Huai’s back pressed against his firm, heated chest, and she froze in place with her hands still raised.
Resting his chin on her shoulder, Gu Yunze pressed his cheek against hers and murmured in a low, husky voice, “Huai Huai, you don’t need to apologize to me. Everything I have is yours. Remember when we first met and you asked if I’d give my life for you? Now I’m answering – I would. I really, really like you. So much that I can hardly contain it anymore.”
The tall, sturdy man nuzzled his slightly flushed cheek against Jiang Huai’s fair, delicate face like an affectionate puppy. This tender dependence made her, who had never been in love before, feel her heart flutter.
His soft, husky voice continued, “That night you said you wanted eternal love – I can give you that too! Wherever you go from now on, I’ll follow. Please give me a chance, okay?”
His warm, gravelly voice seeped into her ears, sending shivers through her body and making her heart tremble. Is this what liking someone feels like?
As if bewitched, Jiang Huai slowly lowered her hands, about to place them over his.
Gu Yunze felt the slight movement of her arms and held her stiffly, his palms sweating with nervousness.
“Ring ring ring!A phone ringtone shattered their intimate moment.
Clarity returned to Jiang Huai’s eyes as she turned and gently pushed him away. “I need to take this call!”
Gu Yunze stood frozen in place, surging with rage. Who dared to call at this crucial moment!
Whoever it was, he’d make them pay dearly, he thought darkly.
Jiang Huai didn’t recognize the number. “Hello?”
“Hello, this is Baisheng Nursing Home. Are you Ms. Jiang, the new guardian Ms. Tan Shujuan registered last week?” A young woman’s calm voice came through the phone.
“Is something wrong with my grandmother?” Jiang Huai asked anxiously.
“Earlier today, someone claiming to be Ms. Tan’s granddaughter visited and spoke with her. She left after a while, but half an hour later our staff found Ms. Tan unconscious on the floor. Our doctors determined she’s had a cerebral hemorrhage and is in critical condition. Please come immediately to make arrangements.” The woman relayed the information emotionlessly, perhaps from having seen such situations too often.
“I’m coming right now! Do everything to keep my grandmother alive – money is no object!”
Jiang Huai rushed toward the door after hanging up.
Hadn’t she already changed the storyline? How could her grandmother still face this calamity?
Granddaughter? Could it be Lin! Xiao! Xiao!
Very well!
A violent aura erupted from Jiang Huai’s eyes. Perhaps it was time for a different female lead.
Seeing how hastily she was leaving after the phone call, Gu Yunze quickly grabbed his car keys and followed.
“Where are you going, Huai Huai? I’ll drive you.” Her grandmother was his grandmother now – how could he let anyone hurt her?In the plot, because Lin Shangyu stopped renewing the payments for the nursing home after the original host married Leng Junyan, Grandma eventually passed away without the imported medications to sustain her life.
Jiang Huai quickly ran to the parking lot, with Gu Yunze following closely behind.
“Huai Huai, don’t worry. I’ll call someone right now to arrange for Grandma to be transferred to another hospital!”
“If it’s a cerebral hemorrhage, she might not make it through the transfer. I’ll go check on her condition first!”
Jiang Huai felt anxious. Over the past few days, she had been frantically studying books about strokes, neurology, and even surgical videos, hoping to perform surgery for Grandma as quickly and effectively as possible.
This sudden situation caught Jiang Huai off guard, but she still managed to glance at those surgical videos on the way.
Gu Yunze sped all the way, driving at 120 miles per hour. Other drivers made way when they saw this multi-million-dollar car zooming past, afraid of scratching it and having to pay for damages.
Thus, they arrived at the Baisheng Nursing Home in the suburbs in just ten minutes.
This was a privately-run facility with relatively reasonable prices.
But then again, how could that scumbag Lin Shangyu be willing to spend more money to send Grandma to a better nursing home?
If Lin Shangyu weren’t currently under police custody, Jiang Huai would have wanted to send him to the Qingshan Nursing Home to experience its shabby facilities and desolate environment!
Jiang Huai jogged all the way.
Gu Yunze ran alongside her, feeling a pang of heartache as he saw the sweat on her forehead. He took out his phone and made a call.
Jiang Huai hurried to the front desk and asked, “Hello, which room is Tan Shujuan in? I’m her granddaughter!”
“Oh, the elderly lady who’s about to pass away? She’s in the emergency room on the third floor!” the nurse said calmly.
Without waiting for the elevator, Jiang Huai took the stairs, rushing to the third floor. She saw the red light above the door glowing and the entrance tightly shut.
She was just thinking about how to get the doctors inside to come out.
“Ding!” The elevator doors opened, and a group of middle-aged men in white coats quickly stepped out, their eyes fixed on the tall, imposing man before them.
The leader, a man with graying temples and a spirited appearance, respectfully addressed Gu Yunze, “Master Yun, I am Director Li of Baisheng Nursing Home. Please let us know if there’s anything you need!”
Gu Yunze nodded coolly, then glanced gently at Jiang Huai. “Listen to her.”
Jiang Huai said in a low voice, “Open the door. I need to check on my grandmother’s condition!”
Director Li looked at Gu Yunze, then at Jiang Huai, and instantly understood. “This way, please. I’ve brought several doctors with me, hoping to help your grandmother recover quickly!”
Jiang Huai entered smoothly and saw Grandma lying there with tubes all over her body, her face as pale as snow and her lips devoid of any color.
Grandma had once been such an elegant and noble lady, but now she lay helplessly in bed—all because of that scumbag Lin Shangyu.
Jiang Huai stepped forward and professionally examined her condition, finding that the doctors had performed emergency surgery on her, but it was only keeping her alive for the moment.
The doctor who had just performed the surgery noticed the group entering and approached the director to exchange a few words.
After a moment of silence, Director Li, mindful of the influential figure present, spoke kindly yet solemnly and respectfully to Jiang Huai.”Miss, our doctors have done their best. This lady already had symptoms of stroke and paralysis, and now with cerebral hemorrhage, her bodily functions are essentially beginning to fail. Please accept our condolences. Even if you had time to transport her to City First Hospital, there would hardly be a glimmer of hope!”
