24 – Saving the Village Demon
Every time they tried to put their hair up, it would quickly come loose, and soon they grew discouraged.
Qin Yue said with a smile, “Once we finish making the furniture, I’ll teach you how to style your hair like this.”
Qingqing and Cuicui were overjoyed and worked even more enthusiastically. Eventually, they took over sawing and planing the wood, while Qin Yue supervised from the side.
“Qingqing, your shavings are too light—the splinters on the wood aren’t fully smoothed out. Plane it again! And look here, it’s a bit uneven—fix that too.”
“Cuicui, you’ve sawed this piece crooked. I’ve told you several times—why don’t you remember? Step aside, and I’ll show you how it’s done.”
As she spoke, Qin Yue placed a ruler on the wood, drew a straight line with a pencil, then held the pencil in her mouth as she made a few cuts with the saw. Removing the pencil, she said, “See? Do it exactly as I showed you.”
Cuicui nodded meekly. Though criticized, she felt no resentment. On the contrary, she thought her sister-in-law was incredibly cool and wished she could possess even half of Qin Yue’s skills.
After three full days of work, the sisters-in-law finally completed their project.
The table was round with an impeccably smooth surface. After it was finished, Qin Yue cut a checkered cloth to cover it, transforming the simple wooden table into something with an aristocratic elegance.
The sofas were also completed—two of them. Qin Yue had them sew matching checkered fabric bags stuffed with cotton to place on top, finalizing the sofas entirely.
Cuicui couldn’t wait to sit down. The moment her bottom touched the cushion, she exclaimed, “Ah, this is so comfortable! It’s like sitting on a cloud!”
Qingqing also tried sitting down and wore an equally astonished expression.
Seeing their reactions, Qin Yue felt relieved. Surely Sang Mohan would like it too.
Though it seemed simple to her, this was undoubtedly the most luxurious furniture in this world.
Thinking of Sang Mohan made Qin Yue’s heart ache. The man hadn’t returned since he left three days ago, and she had no idea how long she’d have to wait this time.
“Qingqing, Cuicui, let me teach you how to style your hair,” Qin Yue said, suddenly remembering her promise to teach them how to make a bun.
“Great! Wonderful!” Cuicui cheered excitedly.
There were no hair ties in this world, so Qin Yue had to use something called “glass silk” as a substitute. Made of plastic, it was elastic and held hair securely without coming loose.
Qin Yue started by tying Cuicui’s hair into a high ponytail with the glass silk, then twisted and coiled it into a bun, securing it with another strand. She gently tugged a few strands loose to create a soft, voluminous style—a beautiful bun was complete.
Cuicui felt utterly thrilled, her face flushed with excitement.
Qingqing shyly said, “Sister-in-law, I don’t want a bun. Could I have a ponytail instead?”
While watching Qin Yue style Cuicui’s hair, Qingqing had realized she preferred the ponytail—the feeling of long hair swaying behind her back seemed delightful.
“Of course. I’ll teach you whatever you like. I know more than just these two styles—I can teach you many others when we have time.”
Qin Yue had worked at a bridal shop during high school, so styling hair was no challenge for her.
Qingqing was ecstatic. “That’s fantastic! I want to learn everything you know.”
“Once I’ve finished styling your hair, you can go out and show off. I guarantee you’ll turn heads everywhere you go.”Qing Qing Cui Cui clearly didn’t understand what “being cool” or “rate of turning heads” meant.
