On the other side…
In Rongcheng, although As Initial Seen Studio had hired quite a few employees, all matters big and small still had to be handled and reviewed by Jiang Mengyue. The workload had clearly increased, comparable to what she had managed during the three months when An Yin disappeared.
Left with no choice, Jiang Mengyue could only turn to An Yin’s brother for help. Since it was his sister who had left this mess behind, it was only natural for the brother to help clean it up. Asking him to send someone over to assist and ease the emergency shouldn’t be too much to ask, right?
With one phone call, An Chen agreed without hesitation and quickly brought a young woman to As Initial Seen Studio to meet Jiang Mengyue.
Inside Jiang Mengyue’s office,
An Chen gestured to the girl beside him, “Here’s the person you asked for. My assistant, Mu Mu.”
“Hello, I’m Jiang Mengyue. The employees here call me Sister Meng. You can call me that too from now on.” Jiang Mengyue noticed that Mu Mu seemed younger than her, so she suggested she follow the studio’s custom of addressing her as an older sister.
“Okay, Sister Meng.”
An Chen, standing nearby, teased, “Just so you know, be good to my assistant. At my place, I never assign her heavy tasks.”
Assistant Mu’s inner thoughts: Meaning, aside from that, she does everything.
“Don’t worry, there’s no heavy work here. I guarantee she’ll love working here so much she won’t want to go back to you.”
“Then I’ll head back now. Assistant Mu, work hard here. I’ll come pick you up in a few days.”
Assistant Mu really wanted to say, “You don’t have to come pick me up—I could just settle here permanently.”
Just as An Chen was about to leave, he seemed to remember something, paused, and turned back, raising his hand… as if to say something. Mu Mu, understanding his intention, cut in first,
“Don’t worry, Boss, I won’t cause any trouble.”
The man curled his fingers and lightly tapped her forehead, with a hint of ambiguous affection. “What I wanted to say was, remember to miss your boss.”
Jiang Mengyue watched An Chen’s interaction with his assistant with great interest. There’s definitely something going on between them.
Assistant Mu covered her forehead where she had just been tapped and chuckled awkwardly, “Hehehe~ Sister Meng’s work here must be quite busy. We’ll see.”
“Goodbye, Boss!”
Please leave quickly!
Mu Mu was a recent university graduate. She had interned at An Corporation during her senior year and, after graduation, officially became An Chen’s assistant.
Her hometown was actually in Jiangcheng, but she had studied in Rongcheng. Four years there had made her fall in love with the local culture and customs. After graduation, by chance, she ended up staying in Rongcheng, which also conveniently helped her avoid certain troublesome matters.
Jiang Mengyue took Mu Mu around to introduce her to the studio,
“Mu Mu, today I’ll first familiarize you with some basic tasks. You can work here peacefully for a while. Your salary will be the same as what you received from your boss. Once Yinyin returns, you can go back.”
“Sister Meng, I understand. My boss has already explained everything to me. I’ll go back whenever Sister Yin returns.”
“Great!”
So, over the next few days, Mu Mu helped out at As Initial Seen Studio. Occasionally, she accompanied Jiang Mengyue to discuss collaborations and also assisted with organizing documents and files. In short, after Mu Mu’s arrival, Jiang Mengyue indeed felt much more relaxed.
As her boss, An Chen, under the pretext of caring for his employee, started visiting As Initial Seen Studio frequently, whether he had a reason or not.
As Jiang Mengyue sarcastically remarked, “I’ve never seen him so diligent before.”
He would intentionally or unintentionally find topics to chat with Mu Mu about, completely unaware of how many times she had mentally dissed him.
At noon that day, An Chen showed up again. “Assistant Mu, are you adjusting well to working here? Haven’t been causing any trouble, have you?”
“Does your boss need to put in a good word for you?”
“Boss, don’t you have anything better to do? Isn’t the company busy? Why do you keep wandering over here all day?”
How come she never realized a boss could have so much free time?
“I’m actually quite busy too. I’m just taking time out to show some concern for you.”
“Well, you really don’t need to worry about that. I’m doing perfectly fine here. Sister Meng treats me wonderfully.”
“Oh, so you’re implying I don’t treat you well, is that it?”
Let me ask you, do you think you treat me well?
“You’re great, really great.”
Truly wonderful—always calling for Assistant Mu for both major and minor tasks, sending Assistant Mu for coffee runs and chats, constantly monitoring whether Assistant Mu is working properly, only finding fault with Assistant Mu, only making Assistant Mu work overtime. Just fantastic.
An Chen actually thought his boss image was incredibly impressive in Assistant Mu’s eyes, completely unaware that he was the type of person Assistant Mu would actively avoid if she saw him on the street.
“Just don’t get too attached to this place. You’ll still need to return to work soon.”
He said with conflicted regret, “You have no idea how much I regret sending you here. I should have assigned someone else instead.”
“No, no, no! I definitely won’t forget. You can definitely call on me for such things next time, Boss.”
How could she possibly dare to forget? During her internship, her performance had been utterly mediocre—messing up documents multiple times, failing to complete proposals, dozing off during meetings, with tardiness being a regular occurrence. Mu Mu had originally just wanted to muddle through for an internship certificate, never expecting she’d actually get a permanent position. She couldn’t understand it, just couldn’t comprehend it.
Back during her internship, her direct supervisor hadn’t been An Chen. It was only after becoming permanent staff that she discovered she’d been transferred to be an assistant—how infuriating!
When she first joined the company, she’d heard some unfavorable rumors about the president of An Corporation. Word was he had extremely high standards for employees, was strict, clear about rewards and punishments, severely criticized those who made mistakes, and would even directly fire those who crossed the line.
After becoming permanent staff, she tried every way to make mistakes and slack off, hoping to get herself fired. But she found that somehow, every time, it seemed like someone was covering for her—she just couldn’t get dismissed from this job.
Eventually, she gave up and resigned herself to working there, though she put minimal effort into it.
But then someone couldn’t stand her attitude and kept finding various excuses to make her work. Not only did she have to do her own tasks, but even work that wasn’t hers would be dumped on her desk to complete. And that person was… An Chen.
That wolf in sheep’s clothing of a boss kept exploiting her relentlessly. Wuwuwu, Mu Mu suffered inwardly, but she never spoke of it.
